Self-Taught Sculptor Creates Incredible Realistic Sculptures And Dreams Of Becoming The Modern Michelangelo

Jago Jacopo Cardillo, 30, is an incredible self-taught sculptor from Italy who transforms marble and stone into intricate lifelike pieces and has won over thousands of people due to his talent.

Since he was a child, Jacopo was fascinated with one of the greats, Michelangelo, and dreamed of becoming a modern-day equivalent of the sculptor. And he’s for sure going in the right direction.

His sculptures are extremely detailed and precise, the artist manages to create pieces that look not only realistic in shapes, bus also light and flowy.

Take a look at some of his works below.

yeah. Michelangelo did s**t that was idealized, pretty much the epitome of his time. This stuff is WAY too naturalistic to compare. As far as I'm concerned, this stuff is much more interesting.

You obviously are not that familiar with Michelangelo's work. Please tell me that's why you make such a ludicrous comment.

impressive technique. But... reallity is... nowadays, there are tons of naturalistic, hyperealistic artists and Michelangelo was the only one at his time with that amount of talent. In XXI century there are no "stars" we are too many on the world. Besides, Michelangelo was not a great artist because he made marutralistic sculpture, but because of what was said with the technique...

Fantastic! But be you, don't classify yourself as another version of a master.

I wonder who Michelangelo looked up to in his time. I guess I could google it.

Just too good! Mere adjectives don't do justice to your work. Stunners all, especially the fetus

This guy is extremely talented and able to create very realistic and detailed sculptures. Some are even very creative visually, but he's got nothing on Michelangelo's expression or flourish. They are two very different artists working in similar mediums.

I’m unclear why he’s aspiring to be a teenage mutant ninja turtle? I joke.

It is one thing to be able to sculpt clay this magnificently but to carve an unforgiving block of marble is phenomenal. Spectacular work my friend!

Michelangelo used nothing but the chisel, there was no photo, there was no zbrush and no motorized equipment... Michelangelo represents an artistic movement in sculpture and not only how real his works were. Only idiots would judge an artist's work merely on its ability to reproduce reality, otherwise 3D printers and photos would beat any and all artists.

So real!! This artist doesn't need to be compared to anyone. He's just awesome in his own right. I would love to see his works in person!
