My Real Postpartum Body: I Want Every Mom To Know That It’s Normal And You’re Beautiful

When my first son was born, the changes in my body took me by surprise. It was not just the weight gain – it was the hormones, the emotions and the fatigue. I felt like I was barely surviving – and I thought surely other women must feel this way too.

There’s so much pressure to bounce back into your skinny jeans after childbirth, but physical appearance is only part of the story. So when my second son was born, I decided to document the “brutiful” – that’s brutal+ beautiful – truth about those early days up to 14 weeks.

I also wrote about my daily reality with a toddler and a newborn. I shared all this in the hope I could show one mum that what she is experiencing is normal and she is not alone. I want every single mother to know: you are beautiful, you are amazing, you are a mother.

Wow another reason for me to never have children. Thanks for showing, I was pretty sure before but now I'm just really happy to never have children.

I understand and respect that not all women want or are meant to be mothers, but I don't think that losing your figure should hold you back - if that's the only reason you don't want children. I was also concerned about my postpartum body when I was pregnant but I bounced back pretty fast. Looks will eventually fade and there's only so much any of us can do about it. Holding your child in your arms and hearing him say "I love you mummy" is priceless and I wouldn't trade it for the best figure in the world.

All women who have scars are beautiful. We bring life into the Earth. We can do it without a man present, so you aren't needed. You are mean.

Yes, this is they way for some moms for sure. I remember seeing my friend soon after her having her baby and she looked larger then she did before she had hers. I didn't stay as large but I was larger to start with. I think its more noticable when your smaller before getting pregnant. But it goes down fast and really, who cares? a baby is far greater reward then a flat tummy.

wonderful to share this. its nothing to be ashamed of. I get it tho. all those who get really upset at what they did look like and what they look like after. not as many people as you think will bash youre body for how it looks after a child. I think each is beautiful. its the wheel of life. sure some will never want to go thru it and prob wont because of it and that's fine to. but know that if you did you would be just a beautiful after as you were before if not more. thanks you to the person sharing this as the postpartum depression some people get after birth (maybe all, idk) play a big role in how you feel you look after giving birth. Ive noticed with my wife its been a driving key of those bad feelings. to show others that its nothing to be ashamed of or feel bad about is wonderful. Life its self is beautiful. I love these inspirational things.

Beautiful pictures, all of you are, and your love comes through. Be very proud of your family and you being a mom; just let me say that a number of women do not see a difference in their belly shape or overall image and they are not fashion models; this was the case with me, my sister and both of my best friends. It can be either way but this is not strictly the norm. Motherhood should not scare women away, whatever happens happens. After all, all of us that have been raising children know that in the long run, how our belly looks fades compared to the new priorities set by life itself. Great hair, nails and outfits really mattered to me until my son was born 6 years ago. Now I certainly take care of myself the best I can but my thoughts during the day are about 10.000 about my son and a couple about what I will look like when I go to the beach. Feels kind of freeing and my purpose seems so much more important....

I've had two kids. I know I don't look in the mirror often but I don't think I looked like that. Everyone is different, there is no normal.

People should always be happy and confident on themselves.. But this is normal for her.. And she should be a proud mom! Always! Everybody reacts diferently.. I had 2 kids.. never had a belly like that 24h after birth.. it just went straight down! Like it never happened! I had a couple pounds to lose but still.. Breastfeeding takes them away in no time! Just take care of yourself the best you can and eat well! Always! Love your body in any shape or size.. Doesn't matter..

I'm shocked at the long scar. C-Sections are done very low. They call it a bikini cut. The days of opening the mom from stem to stern doesn't happen anymore. I have that same scar and no belly button due to the surgery I had to save my life.

She is lovely, but it does look like she has a pretty significant diastasis recti (tearing of the abdomanals). That is why she still has the "pooch". It is fairly common, but with proper healing and education (and if necesaary professionaL rehab), it usually is not a permanant issue. Lots of people are uneducated about this issue and think they will just always have the "mummy tummy", or "pooch". But it is actually a (often) very painful and serious injury.

Why parents keep saying how beautiful and amazing they are? Surgeons save lives on a daily basis, yet don't strut around like parents do..

"Chelated Zinc". For future mothers, take chelated zinc from day one. Do that and your skin elasticity will remain flawless.

What do you see what I don't see?? She has the most normal teeth ever. This is how normal people''s teeth look, except for the few Hollywood overly whitened smiles.

I don't see any beauty here. There is a woman with dirt under her nails, she hasn't clean her teeth good, her cloth isn't ironed and clean, and her skin says that she doesn't care about her body at all. It's not a natural beauty, it is her natural laziness. Pity that someone is supporting her in that.

Who are you to be judgemental? You have no idea what her life is like. You might have had children and it was perfect and flawless and you had perfect sleep and all the time in the world to iron your clothes, but others might not. Learn not to be so hateful and negative.
