Artist Reimagines 54 Disney Characters As Real People, And Men Will Be Glad Prince Adam Doesn’t Really Exist
28-year-old Finnish artist Jirka Vinse Jonatan Väätäinen has grown up with Disney cartoons, and the animated characters have become his inexhaustible source of inspiration. During the last couple of years, Jirka has been creating their portraits, and the images look incredibly realistic.
"Back in 2011 I just randomly thought I'd challenge myself and have a little fun in Photoshop, and explore what the famous character of Ursula from the Little Mermaid could look like in real life," Jirka told Bored Panda. "Since I grew up with a lot of these cartoon characters, the sense of nostalgia made it such a fascinating and a fun personal project."
"I've been inspired by the idea of re-envisioning these characters and Disney princesses that we all know and love, in a way I would imagine them to look like if they were 'more real,' while still staying somewhat true to their original <...> designs."
The artist said he often has a pretty clear idea of what a particular character should look like in real life in his mind but creating their portrait can become a process of trial and error. "As all of [them] do not particularly have extremely distinct facial features, it is often more about getting a sense of their personality across." Not all Disney princess posts are c**p just because there's too much of them. These are actually quite realistic (can't say that about many of those that claim to be...) but still the resemblance is just stunning.
Too much Disney re-imagined/coughed back up - c**p here, but this artist is exceptional. Use your talent for good, kind sir!
these are amazing. so lifelike, and yet so identical to their animated version. astounding!
I've always said I hate all the disney remakes, but these are truly excellent.
Love it, I like that there are hints of the original character, combined with what I'm guessing were actors used as models.
Wow. Much as I love Disney I usually barely skim through all those "I draw Disney characters yada yada" things but this one...this is impressive. It's like the artist managed to capture just that slim edge between real and non-real where they still keep their magic fascination of the fairy tale, but are at the same time real alive to...well, look like they're real. Some of these are better than the others, I assume they've been done over a long period of time and the artist has been perfecting their style, but some of these works are just truly magical<3 Very very very good job.
Are these drawings??? For a minute I thought they were photos!
I love how they captured the look of the character, so they were recognizable, but made them realistic all the same! It just amazes me!
It's cool that you can see the evolution of this artistry. The work has come a long way, they just need to be tightened up, stylistically, and it's a great collection
I began to wonder if it was more than 1 artist? Some of the styles seemed VERY different from others, even though they are all attributed to the same individual. Just sayin'
Some of these are better than others. I love the concept, but some of them the necks look nqr and others it looks almost like the inspiration actors face has just been photo shopped into the picture, I think I'd like it better if the artist had based the humanised face more off the animated face, than so obviously off various actors faces.
Wow, I must say that these are really well done. The pictures are so realistic that I am not sure if these are actually photos or pictures - and yet there is still obvious resemblance with Disney´s fables characters.
