Designers Show How These 18 Famous Places Would Look Like Without Their Landmarks
In many cities around the world, there are favorite places for tourists that end up becoming "must-see" attractions. Some of these attractions have become iconic representations of their respective countries, and a few have even been chosen as the Seven Wonders of the World.
That being said, Bored Panda has previously featured several photoshop contests from an Australian online platform called DesignCrowd. In one of their most recent contests, participants were tasked with reimagining famous cities by removing their most prominent tourist attractions.

Mount Rushmore National Memorial
We shouldn't have desecrated this sacred indigenous ground that belonged to the Lakota Sioux. Other than enjoying the Hitchcock movie, 'North by Northwest', when I view Mount Rushmore I feel sadness & shame for what we have done & are still doing.
Niagara Falls
Taj Mahal
Palace Of Westminster
Machu Picchu
Sandstone City Of Petra
Even without all the carved caves/houses/temples/tombs it would still be an interesting place :-)
Hollywood Sign
Opera House In Sydney
Eiffel Tower
Tower Bridge
Probably have a different bridge so that the cars don't just drive straight into the Thames though.
Parthenon
London Eye
Big Ben
Pedants corner: you could take Big Ben out of the picture on the left and it would still look the same from the outside. Big Ben is the bell inside Elizabeth Tower. I like that they added a person on the phone for some reason. Should have put him in all the photos. Instead of the Pyramid of Giza here's a geezer on the phone in the desert.
Geezer on the phone is to explain, why there's no phone box in the picture.
Load More Replies...Christ The Redeemer
why would they have fore a statue jf there was no statue. It still would not look like that on the picture on the right.
The Great Pyramid Of Giza
Statue Of Liberty
Arc De Triomphe
Again, why is the base still there and the roads still there. There should be no reasons for the roads leading to nothing.
Leaning Tower Of Pisa
Honestly, this is so low-effort it's embarrassing. "Challenged to reimagine places without their most famous landmarks"? This is the sort of photoshop the average teen could manage. Where's the imagination part of this?
Low effort (the Machu Picchu one looks like the area was just selected and painted green) and, in the case of Mt Rushmore, insulting.
Load More Replies...There are actual photographs of most of these places before the landmarks. They are more interesting.
Nope... we already know what it looked like before the white men were put there. We have pictures of it.
Load More Replies...Niagra Falls was mildly interesting. Give me the photoshop clone tool and ten spare minutes, and I could have done the rest of them.
Yeah, I don’t usually care that much about grammar, but this one gets under my skin.
Load More Replies...Well, this was . . . useless. If you really want to know what they looked like, many of already documented in real life, and no, the original sites don't just look like these smoothed-down guesses.
This is probably the WORST article I have seen BP put out. 🤦♀️ A snipping tool or MS paint? Some of these cities wouldn't exist without those landmarks... you can't just pop out a statue and leave the bustling city, you can't just smooth over the faces of the blasted mountain, you can't just paint over plowed and surfaced land and say "like they never existed".
Lousy craft. Mt Rushmore was a bit appealing as an idea. The rest sucks.
