You’d think living on a tropical island would help a person enjoy life more, make them relax and rediscover (or just discover) the beauty of our world. Well, sadly, that’s not always the case.

If that same person is bitter, bigoted, belligerent and that one other B-word, then, sadly, they’re gonna have a bad time. And they might also have a huge criminal record about it too if they play their cards right. Well, OK, not right, more racist.

More Info: Reddit

A tropical island is sure to reinvigorate any traveler, right? Well, not really, with a rare few it reinbigorates them, but thankfully we have karma to keep things in check

A Redditor recently shared a story of how this one woman managed to achieve such a level of racism that she ultimately became a fugitive

In short, she couldn’t stand the idea of being on an island full of people of color and left, breaking a contract that put her in so much debt, she’s now wanted

A Redditor by the nickname of u/fishflavoredcandles recently shared a tale of how this one “racist as hell” healthcare worker got herself into epic heaps of trouble and karma decided to take control.

The story goes that OP’s mother works in healthcare (not a doctor, not a nurse), and is often contracted several weeks to nine months at a time to go places and do whatever it is that she does as a non-doctor, non-nurse healthcare employee.

Unlike most gigs she did, this one was international—one that took her to a tropical paradise of an isle where she ended up being super lonely. To facilitate this, she invited her daughter, OP, to come spend some months with her, soak in the sun and whatnot.

Before this, there was this one other woman to keep her company, Mary, who had also been contracted to work there doing non-doctorial, non-nursorial healthcare work. The problem with her, however, was that she’s unbearably racist. So much, in fact, that she seemingly hated the thought of being on an island that is not entirely inhabited by “elite white resort-goers.”

Well, it was so bad for her that she decided to just leg it, completely ignoring the fact that she was obligated to do a job there. Yes, she did try to negotiate, but failed. So, turns out, the next best thing was to just leave? Spoiler: it wasn’t the best thing.

The cherry on top was that the woman can’t leave the US any more because of all of this, but still tried. She wanted to go to Mexico. Of course she was denied

Image credits: Darya Sannikova (not the actual photo)

As it turned out, the contract was real serious business. Her leaving and not fulfilling the terms meant that she now had to compensate for her lodging expenses, i.e. several months worth of rent in a gorgeous vacation home on one of the top places on the isle with a breathtaking view. “I’m not sure how much it would have been, but I’m guessing a million at the very least,” added OP.

Since she’s probably not gonna be paying that, and has left the country, she essentially became a fugitive. What is more, this was a government contract, which meant that they very easily took it to the U.S. government. And while they couldn’t put her in jail or anything, they could do (and did) the next actual best thing in karmic justice and that is to effectively ban her from traveling internationally ever again.

Yeah, her trip to Mexico didn’t work out some time later. “I’m not sure why her racist butt even wanted to go to Mexico. I heard there are a lot of Mexican people there,” concluded OP.

One thing’s for sure, Reddit loves karma and thought this was beautiful. The modest, yet meaningful 3,200 upvotes (96% positive) as well as a handful of reddit awards attest to that. Also the comments do that too.

There was one Redditor who explained that their dad used to work at various healthcare oriented NGOs and, sadly, people like Mary were commonplace. It only raised more questions as to why folks like Mary decide to travel abroad in the first place.

Another commenter was reminded of bigotry in their surroundings: a racist coworker yelled at two trainee women of color who he claimed were talking too much during class. They were actually discussing the company’s software and its application. They were also actually CEO and COO of a hospital. You can guess how quickly the bigot was axed.

And then there was this instance where folks took an excursion to a beach in Mexico and one of the participants wore a Trump t-shirt. I won’t elaborate more.

Image credits: Pixabay (not the actual photo)

Alas, racism still exists, and it seems like humanity still has a ways to go until the tide of bigotry is pushed away. Do Something published key stats about racial discrimination that show just how much we still have to do to end racism.

In New York City, 88% of all police stops done in 2018 involved either Black or Latino people, with 70% of those stopped being innocent; in 2013 through 2017, white patients in hospitals were reported to have gotten better quality health care than around 40% of Hispanic, Black or Native American patients each; on average, Black men get nearly 20% longer sentences than white men convicted of the same crimes; Black people are twice as likely to be unemployed and on average earn 25% less than their white counterparts.

The list goes on, and you’re invited to see and learn more on Do Something.

Needless to say, this did not ruin OP’s stay there. But do you know what else will not ruin your stay here? The comment section, so be sure to make your presence known there in the form of a constructive comment about anything you’ve read here today!

Folks enjoyed the karmic justice, netting the post 3,200 upvotes and a handful of Reddit awards

I know right? It's almost unnerving to be in a place where there are ONLY white people. Maybe it cause the only parts of South Africa where it's "just white" are the racist parts? So we've been socialized to look around, see only white faces and think "ai man waar de fok het ek nou geland?"

I cannot stand these fake stories anymore. People are delusional and fantasize the world to reflect how they would like it to be. There is not a single place on earth that would pay more than a million dollar just to accommodate a simple caregiver who isn’t a doctor and not even a nurse. That’s completely ridiculous. And even in this b******t story, the woman would not be an international criminal (lol). To the writer of BP : are you completely clueless? Not smart enough to use some basic common sense? Or are you just not caring at all and disrespecting your readers?

I'm increasingly convinced that a main purpose of Reddit is for users to compete at making up stories. The racist aspect is completely believable, and I can believe that a random poster doesn't have a realistic grasp of how much it would cost to stay in nice accommodations. What's unrealistic is the idea that the accommodations would be more than a nice place that any tourist could rent for perhaps $1500 a week when renting for just a week or two (and cheaper as a long-term rental). What I find wildly unbelievable is the idea that the US would flag a passport as a result of a civil dispute over breaching a contract in a foreign country. FWIW, SCOTUS has ruled that the right to travel is a part of the "liberty" of which a citizen cannot be deprived without due process.

First, I wanna start with a fun fact, and please guys, try to accept, that things are different in other counttries and continents. The fun fact is the deared "N" word. In my mother tongue of an EU-country the scientifically name for black skinned people -no matter of their origin-is neger. That's how is tought in schools. learning about human races, that's how the academical language is. It's not a bit of racism in it. I just wanted to clear this up, because I had/have people from USA freaking out, when they heard, we are calling black people neger. They were saying the correct term was: afro-american, and were very surprised, that our neger friend explained to them, that NOPE! None of his/her ancestors were ever been in the USA or North-American continent, and neger is just fine, and not racist. P,ease, at least, try to accept, that the whole worls is not ruling itself after USA-standards. Second, this "Mary" was a dipshit racist, and as a MAGA is a relief, that she can"t ever leave US

Do you… realize that the word in Dutch comes from the SAME origin/root word as the n-word? That means it means the same thing. It isn’t “not offensive” just because it isn’t the literal English n-word; it’s the n-word in Dutch. Additionally, one quick Googling found this entry on Dictionary.com: “The term neger is not quite as offensive as English [n-word], but is now generally considered offensive by most people; in its place, the term sort (“black”) is preferred.” Additionally, from the Dutch Wikipedia: “In the digital edition of The Danish Dictionary as of 2018 states that the word "neger" is most often derogatory. Likewise, the digital edition of Den Store Danske Encyklopædi in 2020 states that "neger" is perceived by many as old-fashioned and derogatory, which is why they prefer to use words such as black (“sort”), African or (for blacks in the USA) African-American.”

I wish people like this would just go find their own private island and live on it. I'm sick of them in my country. I'm sick of them making all of us look bad. I'm sick of them gumming up our political works so we can't get any thing pushed through that's even remotely empathetic, civilized, or even sane meanwhile they get laws created that only ever hurt others. I am with you on all of this. I have been around bigots of all sorts and it just makes you want to take a sanity shower. But I took it personally when you equate racism with other things in opposition to what you belief. Things like being against Vaccines which has been a thing since the Polio vax, not something new with Covid. Being a supporter of a President does not instantly label one as anything except a supporter of that man. It does not make me a racist, Neo Nazi or anything else. Bigotry comes with all political stripes. To think otherwise and to spout this belief like Gospel says so much about you and none of it is good.

This is embellished and fabricated. Unless you have committed a serious crime, no country is going to bother going after your passport for $5000-10000 in rent money. Give me a break. And travel jobs are not directly obtained through the Health Ministry in other countries. There is an agency involved due to all of the steps that need to take place. You can't just practice health care in other countries. So at the end of the day, the agency involved is insured and responsible for situations like this. Fabricated and hate mongering.

Mexico?! Ok. If she knows how they look it makes NO SENSE, but maybe learned Spaniards are Caucasian and thinks they're alike??? Possibly doesn't but wanted to go there to bully too, probably, but planned to actually enjoy it without work, idk. Just hates black people??? Doubtful, since others can be even darker. This hurts my brain. Overthinking I guess or missing something.

The thing about racists like this is the tend to grow in their extremism, incorporating nationalism and an overall xenophobia. They tend not to limit their bigotry to POC and ethnic background and find bias based on geography. Be it Asia, Africa, Australia or Austria & Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, the inability to leave their homeland, which they deem as superior, isn’t much of a consequence. It becomes an excuse to delve deeper into nationalism and militarism, absent any patriotism OR cultural diversity. People like this find their brethren & echo chambers and feed off one another. Sadly, social consequence is minimal.

As a medical worker, I can tell you this is a lot more common than you probably care to know. While working as a medical assistant I worked an afternoon at a covid clinic, spending the day vaccinating the public. A coworker was mad because I didn't steal a vaccine card for her. She's also a medical assistant but anti-vaxx. I told her if she wanted a medical card she could go and get the vaccine, I wasn't risking my job to steal her a card. She hated me after that. I know too many medical people who are deniers and anti-vaxxers. It's mind boggling.

This is one I find very hard to believe. Unaware that the natives aren't white while being eyerollingly racist, antivax and everything? While being a medico who travels round the world. And million dollar fraud? A house might be worth a million dollars but I'm pretty sure a months rent in it is not a million dollars. No extradition but the US will happily void her passport? Nice story, but feels like too made up to me.

Cool story. Too bad it didn’t happen. The US government doesn’t care if a citizen doesn’t honor a foreign employment contract - in fact, a US consul will often assist you if you want to return home and break your contract, as many people contracted to teach English in the far east have done. As well, they don’t cancel your passport if you have foreign debt or a financial judgement against you in another country. Regardless, OP and their mother don’t come across very well in this story as they seems very cozy with an n-word racist even after they knew what she was like.

My father tried to learn Spanish/Mexican but, as with many languages, the identity of an object was a challenge for him. I remember him walking around saying things like "The cigarillo is blanco. Le leches is Blanca. The telephono is negro". American speech is riddled with weirdness and bias. Apologies from this American. Your, whatever your language is, right.

Spanish and Mexican are not interchangeable. Mexican is not a language, it's a nationality. In the country of Mexico, Spanish is the most common language, but not the only one by a long shot. So. Was he "trying" to learn Spanish? Zapotec? Mayo? Yaqui? Chol? Nahuatl? No, I'm not Mexican. Or even Latino. It's totally possible to learn about other cultures without being racist about it.

Mexico?!

You have no idea of the amount of MAGA people living in Mexico because they want to "escape" from the Biden administration.

I think it's a good idea to go further and restrict racists to their bigoted neighborhood. Let'em marinate in all that putrid hatred.

Anthropologist. There's no such thing as race. It's not, scientifically speaking, a thing.
