Maps Reveals Europe’s Most Racist Countries, And You Won’t Like It

As the European migrant crisis surges on, the attitudes of European countries’ citizens toward ethnic minorities continue to shift and evolve. But just how comfortable would they be with their child pursuing a romantic relationship with someone from a different cultural group?

Back in 2015, the European Commission asked people from all 28 EU member states this very question about interracial couples, among several others, and compiled the resulting data to produce a surprisingly damning report on racial discrimination. On August 12th, 2017, a Reddit user named Bezzleford, who is well-known for creating statistical (and sometimes humorous) maps, decided to draft up a visual component to the report in a Europe map – and now it’s going viral, attracting over 18 thousand upvotes after it was re-posted by Latvian user blueeyedblonde69.

Though these shades of red and green highlighting racism in Europe might come as a shock to some, what’s wilder is that they only represent 4 of the questions asked. According to the original EC study, less than half of all respondents stated that they would approve of their children dating a Roma person, or even a transgender person. Though racism clearly remains a widespread social issue in some regions, the majority of respondents also agreed that new measures should be introduced to protect visible minorities, proving that the EU is still an excellent example for the rest of the world on human rights issues.

See for yourself which countries would be most comfortable with their children dating a Black person, an Asian person, a Muslim, or a Jew below, and which are the most racist countries in the EU.

For statistic accuracy you should ask black people, muslims, jewish and gypsies if they are confortable with one of their children in relationship with a white Christian.

It is not called the "black pete Festival" , it is called "Sinterklaas". It is a very old tradition. So yes it is about a man you comes to Holland every year and gives the children presents and candy. He is surrounded by his helpers, they are called black pete. When I was young (I am 30 now) I never saw Black pete and a Black person as the same. So I never thought of it as a rascist holiday. The tradition goes that black pete because of the chimney he comes through. Or at least so I was told. It was never the intention of the story behind sinterklaas to create a rascist holiday. But for a couple of years now (to make the tradition more modern) we have pete in all colours. Black , white , blue ,purple and I even saw gold ones last years. So this holiday has come a long way.

Yeah when we were kids we didn't think anything of it. We got candy and gifts, we had fun. They were black from going through the chimney and all the make-up and dressing up was also to make sure the children wouldn't recognize their family-members who often volunteered to help. Took me years to realize my grandfather was Sinterklaas at the party (organized by my parents workplace every year.) :P

Im sick of these researches showing how racists the Europeans are... When muslims, asians come to us we should tolerate them, because we were learned to be good kids, when we are visiting them we must accept their customs ... that is what you call racism? No, this is muggins. Btw how about the rest of the world? Are they so tollerant toward us? I dont think so. Not loving each other doeasnt mean we want to kill each other ... If I want to see a Mosque I will go to Damascus, but I dont want to have one in my backyard ... Greetings

I am a Turkish girl living with a French guy for 5 years. It was challenging at the beginning for both of our parents simply because they do not know much about each other's culture. Traditions, habits, way of living. Even the language! This title of the article was very poorly chosen. This is not about being racist. This is the fear of unknown.

Omg, you put this so well! People fear other cultures, because they do not understand them. I experienced it first hand. I went to a place that had a culture very different from my own. I was constantly frustrated and I caught myself having hatred-like feelings towards those people. I was afraid. I think, this is mainly what happens with people - they see something, that they don't know what to do with, and they answer with self-defense. With hatred. Sad, but you are right - the unknown is the problem. It's not like these people are evil racist-born coming straight from hell. Just general people having a strong reaction to something new.

I am really tired of this anti-racism hysteria everywhere. In Europe, there is a huge problem with MUSLIM terrorism in countries with a lenient immigration policy. That is a fact. But no one can address or comment this problem without having a trouble, because racism. This censorship and compulsory tolerance is like a some kind of modern dictatorship imho. Instead of solving the real problem, we always hear cr*p about islamophoby and similar nonsense - it is a problem, obviously, why we cannot talk about it? Instead we are babbling about racism .. racism, racism, islamophoby, blah blah blah ... I am really happy that I live in that ew supposedly xenophobic Czech republic, where I can walk on the street without fear of some fanatic bearded idiot attacking. And I can even carry a weapon for my personal defence in the improbable case that it happens! And a small thought: Are those people in the "green" countries really so tolerant, or are they just adraid to say what they really think?

Leni

As a green country (dutch): you wouldn't say we were afraid to say what we really think if you understood anything about our culture. We never keep quiet about our opinions. There's people here like anywhere that are afraid of Islam, and we have a 'patriotic' anti islamic party in the government that's quite popular. Pretty dumb in my opinion. If you're gonna be afraid of a terrorist, you're just giving him what he wants. They're just ants biting the giant, they're largely unorganized, underfunded, uneducated. There's a million things more likely to kill you than a terrorist attack. The only reason you''d be scared is because the media perpetuates the fear. If they did that about driving in cars you'd not drive a car in your life, but people have accepted that danger and learned to ignore it.

Muslims, contrary to common perception, are an “ideological group” as opposed to being an “ethnic group”. They are differentiated by the strength of their faith, and not by their race, colour or tribe.

Not really "strength of their faith" as much as "chosen religion" (or in the case of children, "taught religion").

Okay, to be fair, why not make a similar map of the Arabian states showing how incredibly tolerant they are of the west? Just pointing out that there is a lot of pressure on Europe/USA to be all accepting and to limit themselves just to satisfy other cultures moving there. But whenever you visit a muslim/Arabic country, would you ever think to be disrespectful, try to force them to tolerate your liberal lifestyle? You'd get arrested, at least.

Since Czech is an inland country with no colonial history shut to the non-communist countries in past decades, pretty much the only time you meet someone of a different race is when you see tourists in Prague. Doesn't mean we're racists. Just rather unused to the idea of being around people of different race or any religion for that matter..

Perhaps I was a really unlucky tourist, but the one time I was in Prague I got called a Nazi as soon as they found out I'm German. This is actually reason #1 why I don't plan on visiting Prague again, although it's a really beautiful city. :(

Judaism and Islam are not races. How many times do people need to repeat that? Religion is learned, not genetic.

Peter Mendelsohn

João: Race isn't genetic either. It is learned. Thanks to science (anthropology, genetics), we have known for nearly 100 years that there is no scientific basis for the concept of race. Black / white / Asian / etc etc are all just social categories, just like religion or political party. Race is just "stickier" (harder for an individual to change/escape) because it tends to be projected onto us by others, rather than primarily a product of what we tell others we are. First question: These two red countries are Czech and Slovakia. I am from Slovakia. And let me tell you, we don't have black people who are africans, we have gypsies. And in this matter, it is not about the skin colour, it's about their lifestyle and manners which are unacceptable. You would have to research a bit to know what we all here know... It is not racism, it's common sense.

We have also Vietnamese minority - no problem with them! Why? They just have nice behaviour. No issue with the colour of their skin or religion... We want to stay white, just like most African countries want to stay black or Asian countries wants to stay yellow. It is purpose of nation, be with people with same characteristics (skin, religion, traditions, etc.), and I will never be ashamed because some "clever" politicians call us racist.

For me discrimination people because of their skin color is stupid. But I hate when immigrants become to our countries and do not respect our local cultures/tradiotions/believes/religions. It's like me go to your homes, make loud party and don't care you spend every evening in silence because in my home we always make some parties. I hate when other culture come to Europe and want to ban our traditions, etc. because „it offend our culture.” If you have any problems, no one keeps you here. You can get out of here. If you want to migrate to our countries first learn our languages, and respect us. Europeane goverments are really f****d up. Are they really so idiotic? Why do they try to change their countries and society for immigrants? They should change immigrants, say it clearly „You are welcome here IF you won't give a s**t that churches/crorss/beer in ramadan/uncovered women faces/wearing black faces for some festivals offends your totally diffrent culture.

I don't think anyone can judge me as anywhere near racist. I don't even know anyone who qualifies as one. The closest person I know, who is not a racist, but homophobic is my colleague from work who is not even Czech. If these maps show anything then it is that Czechs are worried about foreigners and that could be true. We have been mostly Czech-only country for about a hundred years. On the other hand, my dentist is a foreigner. Among my colleagues there are at least fifteen foreigners. I witness zero problems about anybody's race or gender at work or fortunately anywhere else. Czechs are very tolerant and non-violent people and I admire them for that. Shame on you Stella for writing this offensive and sensationalist headline. (continued)

And not quite sure why this survey only includes Europe. India is by far the most racist country on the planet...followed by Russia and Pakistan.

And when I say "relief", I'm talking about memories of stupid racist jokes, the hooligans shouting things they might not realise how offensive they are, and those who would wish Croatia got back to its NDH state. It's either one of these: 1) the haters arr really a minority, but they are just very loud; and 2) regardless of their political views, people just want to appear looking good for the outside. This won't work, look in the past. Since we have democracy people have right to say and if they say we don't want any emigrants respect this - this people coming here with no proof who they are, mostly young strong and first of all lazy man who will not bring any benefits except to suck native citizens of benefits and free social care! They don't socialise, they have a different culture. You won’t go anywhere without tickets, passports. They just illegally move from one place to another! This is not safe for anyone. This story should have a link to a map showing a link between emigrants violence in Europe! Guess which country suffer the most!

Why can't we spread love? Why can't we accept one another? We are individuals, and our physical bodies do not define us at the core. Our actions, our words, they are what defines us. It's not that hard. Just start on an individual level: accept those around you.

I understand what your saying by Islam is not a race but most people who follow Islam generally look a certain way I’m half white, half brown and even tho I’m not religious my mothers side of the family are Muslim and throughout my life a lot of people think I too am Muslim on the basis that I’m brown. I was born in the United Kingdom and have lived here all my life yet when somebody asks where I’m from they expect me to say India or Pakistan even tho I haven’t even been there and when I say I’m from wales and I’m British most people deny it or like one man said ‘we call a spade a spade’. I’m mixed race I would understand if my entire family migrated but my father was also born and bred in wales and is 100% white. So now I just say I’m from the great wide world and I belong to no flags or creeds. Also I remember once being in school learning about Islam and one person pointed at a woman wearing a hijab and carrying her child and turned to me and said ‘ ugh eww are you one of them’.

Personally I don’t see the relationship between the question asked and racism. It is pretty normal to wish that your children marry people of the same group and continue the tribe . What is amazing is how many Europeans especially Western Europeans have become so uprooted that they don’t care. I am sure in Asia and Africa most people would hope their children marry within their ethnic group . Much below the fairly debatablelarge racial grouping. This how diversity and culture thrive as opposed to being interchangeable units.

It does not matter what skin color someone has, it only matters if they are a GOOD PERSON. That being said, there are times when making assumptions about others is completely justifiable. An example would be whether if someone is genuinely a good person, or if they are just behaving in a way that would let them gain an advantage over you. One has every right to judge someone by their morale and genuineness. When it comes to Islam, there is an entirely different rhetoric. If you are experienced and well-informed about a group of people who are known to cause havoc and terror, then you have every right to make assumptions. Not because it's "putting a label on all of them", but because that's a defense mechanism. We learn how to defend ourselves by making assumptions. When Muslims are commanded to deceive the non-Muslims for the advance of Islam, is it reasonable to feel cautious and untrustworthy around them? How would it not be?

The Muslim and Jewish bit. If you're from a religious family you might well feel uncomfortable with your children marrying outside your faith. You might feel it's incompatible with the way you brought your child up and how your grandchildren might be raised. Personally I don't think it matters, but I could see why some devout families (be it Christian, Muslim, Jewish or other) may not feel comfortable with it. That's different to disliking someone from another religious background.

I fed up with all those survey about racism always running the same way. It always white people racism against other people. Let's have a close look on the others behaviour. How non-muslim people are treated in muslim countries ? How many white on public live in Africa, on TV, in deputy chamber....? Are non-jewish people allowed to emigrat in Israel and benefit the same right ? If you really study racism, I mean all racisms, then you will understand that white people are the less racist people in the world nowaday. If white people were so bad, why are they so many to come to Europ ? White people should "decolonize" themself as the others did.

Christianity is a split from the Jewish religion and Islam is a counterfeit of Christianity. Created by a pedophile mass-murdering slaver to control the subdued and enslaved. The Muslim religion was created only 1300 years ago and they have killed most men and then brainwashed the children while raping any female from as young as a few years. kill the male, rape the female, and brainwash the young. This is the only reason this religion managed to grow this fast. But, Hell the Cristian burned innocent women in order to spread fear and create influence(witchhunt). Judaism probably has skeletons of their own buried deep in their history(Forced conversion, Kingdom of Himyar). Religion is a tool to control those who do not wish to be burdened with the responsibility that comes with being alive.

the maps shown above are a joke and not accurate at all. Good luck waiting for some nations admitting that they are fine marrying their kids with African or Asian or basically anything non-white ,.. Now I understand this is an old article and does not include the today's updates , but whats happening today is a result of ''surveys'' like this one when some nations are patting their own back declaring them self non-racist and stating stuff like Slovakia is very racist because they don't allow Muslims to build mosques in their country when in reality , all the problems are in countries that use to run empires in the past. but sure.. carry on lying to yourself , maybe things will get better !!!

It does not matter what skin color someone has, the only thing that matters is if they are a GOOD PERSON. That being said, there are certain situations where it is very logical to make assumptions of others. An example of this is whether someone is GENUINELY a good person, or if they are only behaving that way in order to gain an advantage over you. One needs to be very careful of this, because if they let in the wrong person, disastrous consequences will follow. You should be judgmental about one's moral, not about their appearance. However, when it comes to Islam, we are looking at an entirely different rhetoric. Since the faith promotes deception of those are not Muslim in order to advance the cause of Islam, is completely logical and reasonable to be cautious around a true believer. This is proof that when somebody's moral and genuineness are not clear, then you have every right to make assumptions. If other people have the right to stare you down, then so do you to them.

I am curious as to how we all define those that only seem to be attracted to people within their race? Okay, so perhaps many don't care who their child dates. I'm left wondering how many people would actually date other races themselves. Personally, while I find Persian and Asian people attractive, I'm never attracted to black people. Does that make me racist? I think it says I have preferences and I am perfectly okay with that.

As Greeks we have helped more than our share of immigrants & refugees during the last 20+ years. There are now 4 million immigrants living in Greece & only 8 million Greeks. That's a 33% of non Greek population... More than any other European country . So I don't see a problem with racism or religion. We welcomed & helped people from different religions ( mostly muslims)long before the war in Syria even existed. Besides we gave millions of Albanians(muslims in their majority) a good home & job in our country during the '90s. Why doesn't anyone mention that? I didn't realize that helping 4 million of people is considered a racist act & how come countries that are green are refusing to accept Syrian war refugees ? As for marrying a non Greek , it is understandable to be skeptical for your children, as the differences in mentality can create problems in a marriage. Many people divorce & take the children to their country making it impossible for the other parent to see their children...

Not denying that there's a problem, but... As a Polish, if the question was worded exactly as quoted I'm sure a lot of people would say "no" not because of race, but because of cultural fit. Large part of population here (esp. smaller cities) is really attached to Polish traditions and would love to keep them in their families. They'd fear losing their religious, family holidays they cherish so much.

Not wanting your child to date someone of a different faith doesn't make you a racist or even intolerant. I am not religious myself, and I dislike all organized religions pretty much equally. But I know that for people who are religious, they actually believe in, well, their beliefs, and may not want their children to maybe be swayed to a different faith. I'm not saying I agree with it, but there is something more there than the type of thought process that goes into being racist. There is no such thing as race. The visible differences represent the tiniest of physical differences between people. Our brains and emotions do not differ based on where our most recent ancestors came from. Also, I would be leery of my daughter dating a Muslim because some Muslim peoples believe in treating women like c**p. Same with my daughter marrying a fundamental or evangelical Christian. I would actually be opposed to my children marrying anyone of strong faith in any organized religion.

This is just a way to rubbish Europeans. First of all, Europe has no black population because it never went in for the slave holding the Brits and British-descended Americans thought perfectly fine until just recently, historically speaking. Secondly, Europe's wariness of Muslims and Islam is based on the fact that, unlike the ever-pontificating USA, Europe has been the target of attempted military invasions by Muslims and parts of it were indeed invaded and colonized for over 500 years before the last Caliphate was finally destroyed. So spare us all this propaganda and this BS.

The resultst of this research are based on the assumption that people who do not like their children being in a relationship with members of a minoritygroup, are racist. Such a link does not necessarily exist. There can be many reasons for wanting a child to be in a relationship with a member of the same racial- or religious group. Furthermore, the way the results are presented now, it seems only members of the largest racial- or religious group in a country were included in the research. Which answers did minoritygroups give?

Also, a real fear, maybe, in general, how tolerant and respectful are Muslims of people of other religions/countries? That is what is important to me. All I hear is that entire countries hate me and my country. But, they do not know me and my neighbors and the average American.

yes, muslims and jews are not a race indeed. :) I am german and i think that we are pretty tolerant people. We dealt a lot with our past and are proud not to be proud of our country. slowly that changes again and we become more "normal" by putting the past behind. We have racists as everybody, but they are the minority. east /west german difference would have been intersting to see. I dont find it very racist not wanting your child to date whoever is listed up there, cause it is mainly about cultural diffenence and expected economic or educational diffences. it is very human to want someone with a good background and similiar ideas for your child. For that we compare and evaluate patterns and draw conclusions. If a black guy shows up and is different than you expected, most will change their mind and say: well, he is ok i suppose. And yes, that is a little racist, but lets be realistic and dont make people something they are not.

Why is religion always thrown in with race or sexuality? We should absolutely discriminate against religion, just as we discriminate against other ideas (such as nazism). This is the 21st century and we shouldn't tolerate anti-scientific b******t anymore. When someone says climate change isn't real or the earth is flat, that person is rightfully ridiculed. What when someone says they believe in God, this is to be respected? Bollocks. I absolutely wouldn't be comfortable if my child were in a relationship with a muslim. That doesn't make me racist. Because I would be comfortable it were an atheist arab.

I have lived in all those red ones. And its true! Bulgaria and Czech. Super racist. Reminds me of a time when i lived in Canada and showed my new black friend to my cousins on skype. They called her a monkey, laughed and all that. Bulgaria is super close minded and still is. Whenever i go back people mock black tourists and i feel so embarassed to be born bulgarian. Anw. Many examples to give. And in Cz, my black colleague always got weird comments on the public transport...

Bulgarians have had a very low contact with black people and this is why it might be weird for our people to see such in person. Yes - this is how low was the contact between Bulgarians and blacks. Now this is not racism, this is curiosity. On the other hand, it is impossible to defend idiots, who just plainly insult people from other races - there are such idiots in every society. And as for the fact that you are ashamed to be Bulgarian it is very sad to hear someone complain from his own nationality to others. You get 0 bonus points for that....

As a Bulgarian I agree with the statistics and it covers my opinion on 100%. Sorry but it is how we are taught and the society is a hard thing to go against. As nation we are tolerant as far others do not intervene in our life. We cannot go for a serious relationship either. Often it is mutual.

I would never discriminate against someone based on their skin colour ... that's moronic. However, I would absolutely discriminate against someone based on their religion. I think it's safe to say that most people who hold a particular religious view will try to establish a heritage that reflects their own personal beliefs. That's not racist people.

Czechs learned historical lessons well. You can call them racist, if you think racism can be selective and based on rational criterias developed through ages of struggling of this extremely liberal country. Vietnamese, Chinese, Thai, Ukrainian and Russian as easily integrated and diligent migrants are welcomed there. Jews are not recognized as any special "race", no one cares if you are jew or not. Muslims on the other hand as bearers of medieval religious ideology are not welcome. (Which is not racism by the way, as islam is not a race.) Czech republic is atheistic state and finds any religion obsolete and religious rituals kind of stupid and funny. Czech don't have respect to ANY religion, so of course they despite muslims displaying their affiliation. They already have Gypsy ethnic group, which turned into parasitic minority living on Czechs behalf, they were unsuccessfully struggling to integrate for a century now. So they have every right to be kind of "racists".

Regarding my home country, Hungary, it's better than I expected. However, I am fairly sure this whole survey underestimates the level of resentment towards different group. Maybe Slovaks were the most honest repliers :-) Also, it would have been good to.include Romas (gypsies) as a group. In Eastern Europe, this is the most common form.of racism (ss there are not many blacks, Asians and muslims in the former communist countries).

Let's stop this nonsense. Race: According to science there isn't enough variation in our DNA to speak of multiple races. We are one race. Secondly respect. Don't look down on someone for having different believes. It makes no sense at all... If you are Catholic... Or Jew... or Muslim... whatever religion... and you look down on people from other religions... I imagine your God looking down shaking his head saying "Where did I go wrong"... As gar as I am concerned: Atheist is what people would want to put me under but.... I am Spiritual... just not Religious...

That is an interesting point. The Vietnamese in Denmark and Norway learned the local language, the children go to school and everyone works hard. They are just as different, so différence alone doesn't explain the animosity. But I cannot recall the last time I was mugged by a Vietnamese. I don't remember gangs Og Vietnamese on the street corner selling drugs or hassling the girls or couples as they passed by. It isn't "different," it is aggressive, non-integrating, arrogant people who live off public largesse that lead to the problems.

You have to understand something about eastern europe countries. Their reluctance towards other "races" does not stem from racism. There is no hate involved, and no discrimination, as you will see if you visit (I'm romanian, by the way). The question asked, however, touches on some deeply ingrained rigid traditions, those of family and continuity, which are instilled from early childhood and perpetuated by the church. It is simply a matter of upbringing. However, things are changing rapidly, and younger generations are much more open-minded, so I would like to see this question asked ten years from now, and compare results.

This legitimately brought tears to my eyes. When I saw the Jewish one I was like "okay, time to see a lot of red," but there's barely anything! I'm so grateful for that, but it does raise the question... If you're okay with us Jews, what's wrong with Muslims, Asians and black people?

Janice Foster

Nothing is wrong with them, just like nothing is wrong with Jews. My guess is that people just find new targets to discriminate against, to make their tiny selves feel superior. I'm sorry you've had such bad experiences in the past to feel so relieved for Jews. As a species, its humans aren't as good as we could be.

This is not even a map of racist countries, it's a map a xenophobic bitter grandma's living in their houses alone. This study have been made over 20 years. In 20 years a lot of thing change. I'm from Africa but live in Czech Republic. I can confirm that Czech Republic is a very Xenophobic country, but for most of them, when they got to know different people and cultures, they understand that they've been stupidly judging based on some infos they've seen on the TV and something they heard. What's happening on the TV is what they want you to thing. It's called media manipulation. So open your eyes people and stop being blinded by the medias.

Where is the equivalent map for Africa? European countries had been at war for over a millennium and a half. This meant that EVERY stranger was a possible invader. THAT is why they are careful to trust only the ones they know. Now, they are faced with an "invasion" from North Africa and points east. They are afraid for their families and circles of friends. Socio-marxists will call it racism, but it's known as survival.

This survey is flawed. Color of skin and origin of country has nothing to do with religion. Czechs and Slovaks may look like the biggest bigots, at least by the liberal asshats' standards, but the fact is that those two nations have the highest chance of survival. France is gone, UK is gone, Sweden is a muslim joke...these central Europeans see what has happened in all these neoliberal countries, how they are slowly dying out via an orchestrated gradual genocide called immigration and multiculturalism. And they just don't want it. Kudos to them. I mean you'd really have to have s**t for brains to be ok with your daughter bringing home a Muslim.

It doesn't surprise me. My wife is Lithuanian and when she was young she visited France and screamed when she saw her first black man. Lithuanians tend to have a fear of strangers and foreigners which has something to do with some of the Lithuanian folk stories like Eglė the Queen of Serpents where the Eglė family mistrust her husband because he is foreign (he is even depicted as a snake which could be taken as the devil) and also the fact that the Lithuanians kept the hoards of Mongolia out of Europe for a few hundred years

You're talking of one rape made by cops this year, i'm talking of dozens of dead people during the last decade. "Are frenchies of 2017 are colonialists ? " Your question is dumb as f**k. Maybe you will deny that neocolonialism didn't exist ? Interferences is Middle East, Mali... FrancCFA is the most income for our government. Stolen art pieces in our brand new museums in Paris. @cassiushumanmother "The people are not defined by the state" excuse me but first that's the point of this article, talking about states, and then, you tell quite the opposite : you describe yourself according to your nationality not as an individual "i'm french[...]my country". Second, you introduce yourself as a non racist person but you're jumping to the conclusion, allow me to insist, because this shortcut is so racist "racism>terrorism>islam". After that, you want me to raise my analysis and you wallow in cliché with a Godwin point. You are trying to make the questions and the answers without understanding a word of what I said. I'm not talking of racist people, as individuals, I'm talking of racist state, a legacy of our past, which act like a conditioning environment. A person, a nation is not a snapshot, but the result of a long evolution. 1/2

Hmm Poland seems to be around 50% except for Muslims. I guess this is to be expected after the Third Partition of Poland (123 years) that ended just before the WWI and WWII (which also affected our diversity) after which our society became somewhat homogenic. But as far as i can see the question was about ones child. And since we all know how the world runs now (and i do not care about political correctness) most parents would rather have their child be with a native rather than a foreigner. Then again this was done by EU Commission so i took some time to know how many people were questioned as this is the first time i hear about this report. And the total people in the survey is 27718. And since it was done in 28 EU Countries it gives a rough representation of almost 990 people per country. So id say its representation is at least questionable as this gices less than 0.0000003%... (yes 6 zeros after a decimal mark) . .

For those who look at Slovakia and Czech republic, the problem isn't as much racism (although we get its fair share) as the incompetency of translators, who translated the question as "How much would you enjoy/how much would you want to" rather than "how much would you be comfortable". So yeah, we get different responses.

I'm glad to see Germany mostly tinted in green, but seeing the red on the muslim question saddens me. I do live in a diverse part of my city (which is one of the reasons I chose to move here), which also happens to be a diverse city. So seeing it go red surprised me in a way. On the other hand, it didn't. When I look at my hometown, you can just feel the intolerance against muslims. I wouldn't even be able to tell you whether they act that way towards muslims from certain countries or just altogether. Anyway, as I said earlier, it saddens me. We're all humans, no matter the ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality and so on. We all share this planet and should me more tolerable and empathetic towards one another. Needless to say: Have the courtesy to show some respect.

(see Marissa's post above). It's not a Black Pete festival, it's Sinterklaas (Sint Nicolaas... aka Saint Nicolas), it's what Santa has derived from. The Black Petes (although most people would probably just say "Piet", no racist connotation whatsoever) are Saint Nicolas' helpers. They help him out of their own free will because he saved them from a poor life (or so the story goes anyway). I have only recently heard the explanation about them being black from the chimney soot, but to be very honest, I never questioned it as a small child. They brought sweets and presents, what's not to love. Fair enough, looking back on it as an adult it seems weird, but this truly is not a racist celebration of any kind. And as Gabrielle says, it's only a few people who have kicked up a stink about this and ruining the celebration for everyone else...

They don't socialise, they have a different culture. You won’t go anywhere without tickets, passports. They just illegally move from one place to another! This is not safe for anyone. So now Europe is racist because they wont accept muslims in their countries or even worse, to marry their children after they are seing how this people are taking over the whole continent with terrorist attackst and NO GO zones. Why dont you surprise yourself and do this same survey in the arab countries to see who the real racist, intolerant and new NAZIS are? I'll bet you maybe you wont even leave their country alive (if you are a jew or an american). But I lnow what you all going to say.. Its their culture!! thats how they are and we ahve to respect their intolerance.

You don't have to respect their intolerance. You just have to not become exactly like them, or you'll be a hypocrit.

Why can't we spread love? Why can't we accept one another? We are individuals, and our physical bodies do not define us at the core. Our actions, our words, they are what defines us. It's not that hard. Just start on an individual level: accept those around you.

When France, GB, and the others will be officially muslim and black countries (i.e. very soon), you will ask the same questions with "christians, jews, gays, whites", instead of "muslims/black", and then they will be dark red... ☺

I am a muslim and i live in asia and my country majority religion is Islam. I just read all of the comments and it seem like most of u really know so well about our religion, tbh I'm just tired listening and reading to everyone who think my religion is freaking bad, you really think u know so well about our religion just by reading from the internet or watching a news and why everyone just blaming on religion? why everyone just blaming on race? let me ask you something.... who caused The Holocaust? who caused the world war? who bombing the hiroshima and nagasaki? do you thing Islam cause all of that? "HUMAN" is the reason why those wars happened.. what if in this world there is no such a religion and race? we're all just the same. Do you think this word is going to be safe? even in a familiy there is a conflict. its about how we control our emotions, u guys just blaming my religion do you think that is appropiate to do? what if I blaming to u about everything bad and how do you feel?

I am hated in a lot of places for being American. Terrorists are associated with Muslims and I think that is were the intolerance comes from. The fear; the ignorance.

You want to talk of French police, you need to understand the history of this corporation. To the origine and during centuries, they were bourgeois. Racists speeches of our leaders ? Remember Sarkozy "The tragedy of Africa is that the African man has never really entered history". 1/2

EU is a creature made by Germany trying to build a socialism thing called one Europe and telling what’s best for you!

I'm hungarian aaand.. I thought my country will be worse, to be honest. Even if the 40-50-60% isn't the best you can do, unfortunetly Hungary could be a pretty racist place if it wants...

Why with a Jew? Jew is not a race. Why didn't they ask with an Australian Aborigin and South American native? Then ask with a Russian, if you want to put Eastern Europe to dirt Nth time.

It pretty much shows the division in the EU regarding refugees. It´s also interesting that the countrys with most immigrants are the countrys with least xenophobia. Being swedish I´m proud of our open and accepting society

As a Czech, i can say that this is 100% accurate. Most people in Czech Rep. are racist. We didn't like Hitler, yet we hate other race groups. Maybe it's because what is happening in other countries. Maybe, because we got a lot of gypsies, and our goverment treat them with maximal care, like they were from gold. Because "Racism" is a magical word

You've excluded many countries here. There was a study conducted recently that included all countries in Europe, not just the EU. It showed Iceland and Serbia as being the least-racist in all of Europe.

Would you feel comfortable if one of your children stays single in their 30s because of your racial based decision ?

Can anybody tell me why America is not on the map or is their disgustingly high level of racism such a given fact that we don't need to be reminded of it as we the rest of the world are only too aware of it.

I think this Islamophobia thing is just a phase. I am sure people were thinking the same about Jews 70 years before.
