5-Minute Tutorial Reveals How To Make Boring Photos Look Awesome

There are a ton of bad photos online and it’s mostly because people simply can’t be bothered with photo editing. But as this tutorial shows, you don’t need to sink a ton of time to create a beautiful photo, all it takes is just 5 minutes!

The guy behind this photography hacks tutorial is the landscape and fine art photographer YuriFineart, who proves that only 5 minutes spent editing can create an awesome photo.

Yuri explains how to utilize such photography tricks as split toning, saturation, as well as graduated and radial filters. And he even gives insights on the ways in which more experienced photographers edit their work, so not only the beginners could get something out of it.

What a load of c**p. The internet is not full of bad photos because people don't edit them. The internet is full of bad photos because people don't know how what makes a photo great and how to make great photos. Like waiting for the timing and light you want, using an interesting composition, framing, angle, the story you want to tell etc. Editing does not change all of that. It can only improve it a bit. All this shows is you can mask almost any bad picture to make it look a bit better. The same thing instagram does and that's also exactly the same reason why instagram is so popular. Because of the filters. I also think this photo is processed way too much. It looks unrealistic now.

While I don't disagree with a lot of what you said, I thought it was very interesting to watch the processing. I think the photo was improved (though as I said in my other comment, I'd have stopped partway through). I think a rather drab photo was turned into something that told a story. Personally I don't have Lightroom and I was fascinated to see it in action.

Is there also a tutorial of not feeling like a total fraud when editting? :P While I agree that editting can make a photo look better to me it just doesn't feel right. I don't mind if others do it, in moderation ofcourse ;)

Yes! Snapseed is awesome! I use Lightroom when I get home, but when I'm on the move, Snapseed even beats LR mobile.

Very nice but personally, I think that photo looked best at the 2:20 mark.

Is it possible he was messing with the masses?? That was no tutorial. Maybe he is just a guy, with a lot of talent, showing off.

He obviously has a lot of experience and knows what he's doing, for anyone else on any other picture this is useless as he's not telling you really why he's chosen to do what he's doing or how to apply it in other scenarios. Also what software is he using? Again useless for any other software. Any answers welcome!

Isn't it simply amazing what can be done with a little bit of computer technology?!

I prefer the real thing. Sorry, but if you want to tell a story, do a painting, don't alter reality....
