Having a pet can bring you infinite joy because you always have someone by your side that loves you unconditionally. But for that, they will ask for a bite or two of what you’re eating and if you ignore them, they will sit there and stare at you with such miserable eyes that you will not be able to resist giving them what they’re asking for.
Twitter user @PatinkinMandy shared a photo of how his dog was begging him for the soup he was eating. In response to this tweet, people shared their own dogs’ irresistible gazes and here are the ‘looks’ from their dogs that owners have to deal with.

The original tweet got 220k likes and was posted by Mandy Patinkin, an actor, singer, and as he likes to refer to himself, a humanitician. He has almost 300k followers and he uses his platform to bring attention to issues that he considers to be important, the latest being encouraging people to sign a petition to cancel the death penalty to a man he thinks doesn‘t deserve it.
But not all Mandy Patinkin’s posts are so serious. The post about his dog, whose name is Becky, was one of those lighthearted and relatable situations. People loved the photo and started sharing how their dogs beg for food when they sit down to eat.
From "smiley-happy" look to "closed-mouth, smell-bacon-concentration" look. . .
Even if the dogs have just eaten or if it's food that is not meant for pets—it doesn't matter, the owner's heart still breaks from not giving their beloved doggo anything when they see that not only their eyes but their drool also shows how bad they want a taste of what you're having.
Puppy eyes are a powerful weapon that make the owner weak and they fail to resist the manipulation. But how can one say no when a dog is sitting there patiently—you just have to reward it for being a good boy.
It could be that the word ‘manipulation’ is too strong for describing the way dogs look at us, but dogs quickly figure out that this facial expression works. Researchers say that the muscle with which dogs lift their inner eyebrows is not present in wolves, so that means it could be that this feature evolved for dogs to better communicate with humans.
But why can't we resist those big round eyes and do whatever it takes to please our pets? Humans as a species use their eyes a lot to communicate and bond. The same happens when we look at our dogs’ eyes. It could be that our pets' eyes reminds our subconscious of the big and round eyes babies have. Humans are always more attracted to infantile looks that are associated with cuteness, and now even dogs have evolved to have them.
He is obviously trying to use his Jedi Mind Tricks to get his fair share.
It is scientifically proven that once puppy dog eye mode is turned on, it becomes exponentially more difficult for a human to resist. Soooo cute. <3
Try it with a mastiff...huge puppy eyes with a ton of drool! Sometimes the drool makes bubbles!!
Load More Replies...I want one post with cats too.... i want to see this face "i won't beg but I'll kill you in your sleep if you don't give me your food now!"
Our cats would sit behind us, and tap us on the side of our faces to remind us they wanted our food or a bite! My cat began to sit next to me and quietly began dipping he paw into whatever I had and nabbing it!caught her, and she ran off with a huge chunk of meat in her mouth once! When she was dying with cancer she was always hungry, and I made chicken a lot, and bought enough for her to have her own piece! The vet said just let her have what she wanted. It wouldn’t kill her or urg her, and she’d be happy. She was a very happy kitty, and would eat off a plate next to me. Hubs was ok with it too. She was loved!
Load More Replies...Thank you, I was also trying to think of some mildly sarcastic but still nice way to point this out.
Load More Replies...Even though I know that I will be beaten up for this: Dogs begging for their human's food aren't cute. They are badly trained.
Of course you're right. Still you cannot always avoid such situations. I know a very well-trained dog but he goes mad if someone with ice-cream is around. Then he just gets excited and drools like hell. 😂 Some cities have ice-cream shops where they also sell ice-cream for very good boys and girls. It's always a pleasure to see them munch their delicious cold treat. :)
Load More Replies...My samoyed Sasha would sit and stare and start with that sammy "woooooo!" when she wanted your food. Told her many times about how rude she was and taught her not to do that. Soooo... she would sit by you and wooooo but no sound would come out. She was letting you know in a silent way that she wanted food but wasn't going to be rude about it! My wife and I called it "The silent woo!" I miss that dog!
Here is a good one for you! Our very smart dog! I fell in a freak accident and broke my shoulder March 3rd, 2021. My dominant side! Had to heal no surgery. Hubby doesn’t cook., delivery was our option. The dog learned very fast that the text tone for notification meant a delivery was going to happen! Door watch 2021 began each night. Then, he decided before he ate his dinner, he will just wait to see what we got, to join in on! If we ordered no meat, he’d try it and then go eat his food! Lol. But if there was meat for me? Well, he’d stare at me, until I finished and gave him the last bite of meat! Then and only then would he eat his dog food! He is super smart, and very funny! He especially loves pasta and red sauce, potatoes and meat! We love him anyway. Especially since on his own he began to “talk” to us about needing our food! Ha ha ha ! Too funny!
Despite training, my childhood dog would still pretend to not be looking at me when I ate a pizza - my dad would buy pizzas with bell peppers on them, which I hated but my dog loved. She did eat bell peppers like carrots (bell peppers are fine for dogs btw) so she would side eyeball the pile that I made on the plate. She didn't get them though.
i never finish what's on my plate. (due to surgery.) so, while my girls know that they cannot beg or be by the table, once i put my fork down they come over for bites. they have their own fork and spoon for this. they sit and wait but if i take too long they will let me know. once, i actually put only what i knew i could eat and when i took the empty plate to the kitchen you would have thought i had mortally wounded them.
My dog pulls his ears back and smiles. He always gets a couple bites. I CAN'T RESIST THE PUPPY FACE🦮😅
I love Mandy Patinkin... and I love he has a retriever....dogs are beautiful and you have never known love until you've seen the transformation a dog's face goes through when they know you have food....
Of course, when you have pet rats it's different. Rats don't understand the concept of begging, and they're natural opportunists. So if you've got food they want (in other words, any food of any kind, ever) they just bum rush you and start trying to grab it. If you want to eat in peace, put them back in their cage or give them their own portion. There is no middle ground.
Our dog Oscar was trained to sit by the use of little food rewards, like most dogs. So now when he wants something you've got he doesn't whine or put his head in your lap - he sits there and stares at you until he has your attention, and the moment he has it he very pointedly sits and waits for the reward (usually your bowl of popcorn. He's a devil for popcorn).
I don't understand these. I was always only too happy to share with my beautiful cat. I would order extra fish (and chips) or share my meat pie with her, and I never went hungry. If she wanted chips or roast potatoes, or even vegetables, she got them. Mushrooms seemed to be a favourite of hers. I miss her so much. I have no one to share with now.
My mum's dog looks at me then the food n back at me and tries talking like so "wa wa wo woo wa wo woo?!'
My parents' Doodle, Oliver, was the master of begging. 21768420_1...d83e98.jpg
#21: Pizza crust! But my Lab knows that I eat the crust when the pizza is fresh. When it comes to leftovers, he usually gets the crust. Boy does he know that.
My German Shepherd doesn't mess around. As soon as he hears the wife setting the table, he heads to his indoor kennel/cave as we taught him not to hang out/beg at the table. Outdoors by the pool is a different story; he doesn't care WHAT you have, he wants some too. And we usually indulge him...
My dog refuses to eat her kibble and only eats hamburger, chicken, and rice. Loooooool why cant she just eat her own food
Doesn't sound very healthy. Ever consulted the vet? It cannot be good for your doggo's health I'm afraid.
Load More Replies...Eat some chocolate in front of you dog, since chocolate is bad for dogs, you wont feel bad for not sharing...if you do this enough times, the dog will stop begging for food (most of the time).
