As we approach autumn, my life grinds to a halt and I start to think and talk about nothing else other than pumpkins, much to the dismay of my family, friends, and generally anyone that crosses my path! Until I was 30, I'd never carved a pumpkin. I knew it was a thing, but Halloween in the UK wasn’t that big and not something we celebrated in my house growing up, so pumpkin carving wasn’t something I’d ever considered doing.

In 2010, I decided to have a Halloween party and thought it would be cool to have some pumpkins around the house. I didn’t want a standard smiley face, so I started looking for ideas of what to carve. After seeing some of the pumpkins made by some of the top carvers in America, I was amazed at what was possible, so I set about trying to make my own amazing pumpkin.

After several hours hacking away at a pumpkin, I had something which, at the time, I was very pleased with—this was the start of my obsession, which, if I’m honest, is now getting out of control! Every October, pumpkins consume my life with every waking hour spent carving; if I'm not carving, I'm talking about pumpkins to anyone and everyone that would listen to me. Each year, I’ve refined my technique, getting better and better. I then started getting requests from friends, local businesses, and events to carve pumpkins for them. In 2019, I decided to take things to the next level and launched my website.

Like many people, I found myself with a lot of time on my hands earlier this year, so to occupy myself, I set about trying to make a carvable fake pumpkin (something which is fairly popular in America, but you can’t buy here in the UK). After months of trying, I finally succeeded and now have something very similar to a pumpkin that I can carve all year round. Here are just some of my pumpkin carvings, each of which has taken between 6 and 30 hours to carve.
