What would Christmas be without the beloved and highly ornate Evergreen tree? Without it, where would Santa leave his presents? Keeping your Christmas decorations safe and sound until the gifts come is an easy task if you live in a pet-less household, but if you're an owner to an evil cat named Mr. Mittens or a funny dog named Scruffy, it might become a mission impossible.

From your point of view, the Christmas tree is almost sacred - you've spent at least a couple of hours searching for the perfect ornaments, then a couple more decorating it and a couple more admiring the final result. From your pets point of view, you've just set up a fantastic scratching post, high-jump training area or a snack bar, depending on the given critters taste. Anyways, what follows next is a destroyed tree lying on the floor with broken Christmas tree decorations all over the place with a culprit of it all being the funny cat, revenging on you naming him Mr. Mittens. The good news is that with simple hacks shown in the pictures below, it's no longer necessary for you to choose between having a pet OR having a fabulous Christmas tree.

Now go ahead and check our collection of ideas on cat-proof Christmas trees!

Having trees hanging from the ceiling is weird, but having a fox in your home......???

This fox is named Loki & he was rescued from a fur farm as a pup. He has never known the wild & has an incredible owner who gives him a great life.

You have to make an account to read this completely, but is a nice article about, among other things, the domestication of foxes: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2011/03/taming-wild-animals/ratliff-text/1

Our Christmas tree is always destroyed by my precious little kids (my cats). But I found a wonderful product that's actually working and has kept my kiddos out of the tree. It's called the Christmas Tree Defender and I bought it at www.christmastreedefender.com

yeah, I read the article about that. The couple had to get legally certified to have a fox. Good idea with the tree, tho!

I have a pet coatimundi, exotic like a fox, and she is very happy living with me. But she is really difficult sometimes and can snap with her wild instincts. Exotic pets are fine to own and are like family, but ONLY if the owner is willing to spend the time, emotional stress, and money caring for them.

exotic pets are NOT fine to own. It's not just about how the animal and family are together or how well the owner treats the animal. It's about how the animal was obtained. Many animals are obtained by unscrupulous means. They kill the mother and steal the baby, they smuggle exotic creatures in horrible conditions and most or many die during the smuggle. The more people that purchase or condone exotic animals as pets the more deaths will continue. You aren't an animal lover if you think it's OK.

irresponsible. Those animals don't belong in a home. They belong in the wild. Sorry to be a bummer on a fun post but they are not and should not be domesticated. It's not fair for them at all. If it's a rescue it needs to be in a rescue center where they rehabilitate it to be released back into the wild.

At first glance, i thought that middle thing was a cat paw reaching up, and started to laugh, then immediately realized it wasn't, and felt disappointed. Such a vast array of emotions in such a short time.
