19 Times This Teacher Was So Tired Of His Student BS He Responded By Turning Himself Into Funny Memes
With the advent of the digital age, you could argue that the generation gap is as wide as it has ever been. Nowhere is this more evident than in schools, where middle-aged teachers meet tech-savvy kids who have never known a world without Facebook, instant messaging and the ultimate modern form of communication – memes.
David Red, Professor at St. John’s River State College in Florida, is woke. He knows that if he's going to relate to his students, to be able to truly get through to them, he needs to be on their level.
“Students generally seem to really like the memes or really anything I do that makes it feel to them like I'm actually trying to talk to them and not just reading from a script or text,” David told Bored Panda. “For example, in one of my classes this year I wore pink every Wednesday and the first test was entirely themed on Mean Girls. Some of them started wearing pink on Wednesdays too and they really enjoyed it. It became almost like a "team color".”
“The IT meme that you may have seen was actually right before a final exam and the final was then themed around the movie, using the same characters and "props". Anything that makes the students feel like I put my real-self into the class helps, whether it's memes or one of these other gimmicks. If my real-self is in the room, then their real-self shows up too. And when they're fully present like that, they learn.”
Despite the popularity he has quite accidentally found online, David loves teaching his physics courses and has no plans to take it any further. He says his memes are a fun way to communicate not only with his students, but for fellow teachers too. “I love the students generally and most of them are fantastic people that are really trying,” he told us. “But like all teachers that deal with thousands of students, there are the occasional few that drive you crazy. And there are tedious elements of all teaching jobs (like most all jobs) that wear down teachers. That's what the memes are mostly about - the elements of teaching that are frustrating to all teachers.”
But how did it all come about? “The first meme happened with me sitting at my desk staring at a pile of tests and labs to grade,” David told Bored Panda. “Instead of tackling it head-on, I procrastinated and saw a meme on my Facebook feed that I immediately connected to my own frustration. It was Golum looking happy captioned with "We must wash the dishes" followed by a picture of Golum angrily saying "But we hates it!" I made that one there with me talking about grading and it went from there.”
“My fiance and I would work on a costume and figure out how best to do it - she is the creative genius behind costumes, wigs and any makeup used. I know this would be a good time to start an Instagram account or try to capitalize somehow but I get married in three days and then go on a honeymoon. By then the buzz will be gone so probably I'll just keep doing things as I was before - for fun, whenever I have an idea I like.”

I feel like thirty classes is pretty hard to do. The most I have ever missed before feeling like c**p about myself was 5 classes
Wait, wha?! You mean I don't get any credit for thinly veiling my contempt for the subject and the teacher's efforts. That's not fair.

Just a bit. I have some skittles in my bag for you.
Load More Replies...You want extra credit when you can't even get the coke to your nose!
It's been working so far... Gpa is high enough and I'm passing everything lol #engineerstudentlife
Actually. I did this a lot. And made it with a successful career so far. (2 jobs in it (full and part time) . Big middlefinger to them.
Fat chance! I have yet to find teachers that give perfect marks in College.
Perhaps because he's "laffing" with relief that it's over for the summer? ;-)
Hi David, You pinpointed exacly why I stopped teraching many years ago and started an expert IT company. But unfortunately it looks like most of my clients were your former students.... Have a good life! GBPK (The Netherlands)
Why is that phrased as a question? It's not that hard to understand.
Load More Replies...Yup. The one class I failed I didn't drop because if I did I'd lose academic funding, have to pay back what I did use before getting more, & I wouldn't be able to retake the class that way. I'm probably going to change my degree to avoid that class but I didn't think that was an option at the time.
Load More Replies...Back in 1983/4 I tutored BASIC programming at my college. It was the only entry level computer course and the school decided that since computers were the future just about every major would require at least on computer course. That meant a ton of freshmen trying to pass BASIC so they could get their arts administration degree. I was tutoring one girl who just couldn't get it. She wasn't dumb, but the abstractions in programming were beyond her. The last week before she could drop without penalty I checked with the prof and she had a 0 - no possible way to pass the class no matter what she did - so I recommended she drop it and try again next year so she didn't have an F on her transcript. "I can't drop, I have to have this for my major." "if you don't pass it won't help you and you'll have to take it again anyway." "But I have to have it." and so on. She wouldn't drop no matter what I said. Failed the class, got the F on the transcript and had to take it again the next year.
I had to attend those welcome back/pep rallies for years, even though I wasn't a teacher. Every year a new and exciting method was introduced. If rolling eyeballs made a noise the sound would have been deafening. Eventually I wised up and started finding "emergencies" I had to take care of. Didn't even miss the free doughnuts and pencil .
Why classiest? It's literally just a mimic of another meme. There's no mention of class or derogatory language.
Load More Replies...Tank top, leaning forward, low camera angle, and a bit of dark makeup in the cleavage area. Works for any body!
Load More Replies...Dog: Y u no let me in p? U tryin to block me? I will get in the photo anyway. :P
Google squint Lady meme!! She's a legend hahaha (I adore her).
Load More Replies...I think it's mostly because of his facial expression in this one lol
Load More Replies...I had a teacher like this in HS. He is retiring this year and while I understand and wish him all the most wonderful things retirement has to offer, the academic world is losing a great force in him. Great teachers can and do change the lives of their students every day and we need more who have passion and creativity. Cheers to this man - keep it going, Sir!
He is going to be the one his students remember in 30, 40, 50 years. I was very lucky to have two favorite teachers and to this day, 30-40 years later (man, I'm old), I still remember their names and my gratitude has not lessened.
As a teacher myself, I really appreciate these memes, lol. Several months ago, I had a student bully me online and insult my work because, according to him, I had unjustly lowered his mark for an activity (we're not even talking about final marks). What mark did he get? A 93. What mark did he say he deserved? A 100. Excuse me, but I, the teacher, will be the judge of that.
I think it's disgraceful that a student can get a poor grade on work submitted or by poor attendance, but can still persuade the tutor to give a better one.
