We are often bombarded with fear-mongering and shocking headlines that make us feel that the world is falling apart.

However, while it’s important to report on problems and issues, I believe there is so much good in this world that it needs to be found and promoted just as widely.

Because of that, I started The Happy Broadcast. It's an anti-venom to the vitriolic rhetoric that pervades our media. Also, this year, I’ve illustrated even more happy news than in 2018.

We need more positive news to acknowledge that the world is actually getting better little by little.

More info: Instagram

When I'm working on The Happy Broadcast, I try to pick news that has an international appeal and touches themes like animal rights, climate change and science. News that shows how much we’re progressing on many fronts despite being often bombarded with few-mongering headlines.

I am so happy for their victory, but just find it bonkers that an indigenous tribe had to fight a legal battle to protect their land in the first place.

I think there are many reasons why negative news is dominating the media. It's like a sudden disaster a, it's more compelling than, for example, little improvements. Bad things can happen quickly, but good things aren’t built in a day, and as they unfold, they're out of sync with the news cycle.

I get a text message saying my blood arrived at XYZ Hospital in ABC City. I've saved lives in Denver, CO, which is 1,000 miles away! Just many of the awesome reasons I donate blood, plasma and platelets on a regular basis!

Me too, the red cross is really strict about protecting the donors' health. So I can not donate blood.. Instead I save up gold coins to donate to them.

I don't know if other countries do this, but also in Sweden when you give blood you first get a breakfast style meal (so you won't faint or feel weak) and afterwards you can choose between different gifts, like movie tickets or towels and stuff, donated by companies. Or you can choose that your "money" goes to a charity.

We also get a text message saying when they are running low on blood, if there's been a big accident or something. People leave work, school etc. and speed to the nearest hospital to help then.

On and off I have been giving blood over 80x since 1976 got frustrated when I could not give our youngest son family blood during the tainted blood scandal 1993. Back then the Red Cross did that total control with minimal feedback. Every blood donor should be in more control of their blood donations. Blood donors are more likely to do what is right for blood donors. Innovating healthier and longevity of life. Educating in problem solving solutions to help blood donors with themselves being able to study the lab blood analysis records showing all levels of tracking. Research to ensure a healthy harvest at the same time ensuring all donors get on track for longevity of donating. Healthy Wealthy and Wise.

As a blood donor myself, I appreciate this, however it might have an unexpected effect wherein people look forward to receiving a message, but then never do because their unit of blood expires before it gets used or is used but then the patient dies anyway on the operating table. I hope folks don't stop donating if they don't get that message later, out of a sense of futility, like "oh well, I donated but it didn't end up making a difference."

I trust that the blood I donate, is used in a hospital. Ned of that blood is decided by an doctor. I do not need to know it saved someone, because then you should also know, if the blood was used in an operation not so succesful. Otherwisw you might get the understanding, that your blood is never used. And who wants to know, that donated blood was used in an unsuccesful operation?

Lovely initiative. However, it does nothing to increase the number of donors. People who donate already know why they do it. Don't get me wrong, it's nice. Just not very practical

As humans, we have this thing called “negative bias” that make us respond quicker to bad or dangerous situations. Nowadays, this bias is getting in the way of our happiness and well-being, and even our productivity because most of the narrative surrounding us (print, online or mobile) is that the “world is ending".

I think we should find a balance between negative and positive news. From politics to climate change and economy, negative and bad news surrounds us everywhere we go. A potential solution could be to limit the amount of bad news, basically slow down our personal news cycle, adding some positive news to our “news diet” to make sure that our outlook on the world is more optimistic. Also, it's very important to invest time to deal with misinformation and the reliability of news sources.

Hm, I think Sweden must have forgot to apply then. We dont have stray dogs, at least for decades. Any lost dog gets collected, if no owner is found it gets adopted via Animal Protection. I have seen one or two lost dogs, where we found the owner, but never a genuine stray.

SOOOO not against this! But....shouldn't it be equal pay for equal skill? (meaning, no race, gender, age, or any discrimination at all!) If you have more skill in the task, you get paid more, if you have less you get paid less. Plain and simple (yet I know it is more difficult to prove wrong-doing that way too)

Nairobi has a baby elephant orphanage. So I guess not. Of course, if they are brought up in the orphanage, which is by Nairobi National Park, then they are not sold to a zoo or circus.

This is definitely a good thing, but be careful to remember that fortnite is known for an especially toxic crunch culture. Employees are expected to work insane hours with no pay. Planting forests is good, but he should also be held responsible for the unfair and harmful working conditions his company creates.

The rabid, right-wingers still spewing their nonsense that renewables will drive prices up so high no one will be able to have electricity will not be noticing this development. The belief disconfirmation paradigm is too powerful for some people to overcome.

Although the use of solar panels is green, many solar panel manufacturing processes are not. To create a solar panel, caustic materials will emit greenhouse gases. Plus less than 11% of each panel has salvageable metals so they're not very recyclable once they're usable life has expired. Most people aren't aware that the 'green' alternatives often aren't.

The UK should be prefectly capable of producing sufficient renewable energy from wind, solar and water. It doesn't need to be sunny, it's frequently very windy and the UK is surrounded by water as it's a pretty small island.

People are asking why this matters, here's why: Women are still getting fewer opportunities to direct movies, and even if there would be women who could make amazing movies, they're sidelined by some of the male directors that are really mediocre and produce cheap cash grab movies.

This! Early detection is where the majority of money should go. I don't donate to cancer cure research because it's a horribly ineffective way to save lives. Trillions of dollars and we still don't have a cure, whereas early detection devices save all kinds of people.

Tropical rainforests don't help climate change anyway. They are almost a zero sum game because they contain so much animal life. The oceans have a way, way, way bigger impact.

I like this. To get social assistance or a job, you need a bank account. To get a bank account, you need an address, to get an address you need home which means you need social assistance or a job. It's a vicious circle.

I try to bring my own bags or use paper at all costs. I'd even be ok with stores saving their big boxes and letting me carry my groceries in those so I can just recycle the box when I get home. Plastic bags drive me CRAZY!!!

America has some of the richest people in the world, and also some of the poorest.

It is necessary, because often private investors will support male entrepreneurs over female entrepreneurs. This happens mostly due to people in power currently being predominantly male and as many studies have proven, men are much less likely to believe that women are capable of success in a serious work environment. This can be ascribed to both deliberate and subconscious sexism. It's the same argument for why people of ethnicities other than caucasian should be given benefits that equalize the playing field. A group in power will not willingly give over their own power.

This makes me uneasy. You know goddamn well this power will not be used in a purely benevolent way.

Isolation is just one of the "hidden" injuries that come from homelessness.

Yes climate change = increased turbulence and extremes. The science is clear but not simple.

Even though I don't like Billie's music, that is a really thoughtful thing to do. Good on her.

Unfortunately not suitable for everyone. Myself and my brother could not live off a plant based diet. I have reactions to a lot of fruit and veg, I get itchy tongue, gums, throat, roof of my mouth and lips. My brother has a salicylate intolerance and gets quite sick eating many fruits and veg.

Electricity and transportation produce more CO2 than Livestock ever will. Stop using animals as an excuse.
