Bored Panda got in touch with Jun Han Chin to learn more about him and his creative process. The illustrator revealed that he has been illustrating ideas since late 2021, but his content creation journey started earlier by writing book summaries. "I was embarrassed whenever my friends asked me what I learned from the books I read. While writing summaries helped, I found that illustrations made it much easier to recall the ideas I learned."
Jun Han Chin told us that inspiration can be found everywhere if you keep an eye out for it! "My ideas come from books and podcasts to ordinary daily conversations and experiences."
According to the illustrator, most people seem to enjoy his work. "A good thing about social media is that I get to see the different views of my audience from their comments. I've learned a lot from the comments of my audience." Jun Han Chin added that initially, he never thought that anyone would be interested in his illustrations. "I can still remember the surprise when I saw my first illustration getting over 30 likes on my new Twitter account. It was surreal. I feel privileged to be able to share what I learn with people across the world, thanks to this skill and social media."
After being asked what makes him passionate about creating these illustrations, Jun Han Chin replied that he wants to share in a way that people can easily understand, use and remember. "There's so much information available but so little we can remember."
"I don’t see myself as an artist or designer. In fact, I'm terrible at drawing and painting. I don’t aim to create breathtaking works of art. I’m a visual communicator. My illustrations focus on sharing useful ideas to inspire reflection and action."
As for his future plans, the illustrator hopes to teach people to illustrate their own ideas and work with more businesses to connect with their audience through illustrations.
If you'd like to share your ideas effectively, or become a better thinker and communicator, Jun Han Chin has a beginner-friendly online course, Illustrate Impactful Ideas. "I've put everything I learned there. No experience in art, design or social media is needed. This course is created with my younger self in mind. I put all the principles, skills and mindset I’ve learned there. I’m also actively working on it and will add more useful content there over time."
Jun Han Chin draws something every week. "At times, when inspiration strikes, I can make a whole bunch of them in a single session."
The illustrator shared that the main message he wants to translate with his work is: "Live optimistically! One way or another, things will get better."
