Russian Photographer Captures The Beauty Of Women’s Bodies With B&W ‘Bodyscapes’

Russian photographer Anton Belovodchenko creates natural forms from nude female figures. Artfully shot, the suggestive photos look like sculptures of dancers or yogis, contorted in way that sometimes masks the human form.

A bodyscape, traditionally, is an artistic style where closeup photographs of the human form convey the impression of landscape. While Belovodchenko does have some experience photographing nature, this series reminds us more of Yakovlev’s work.

What do you think of the series? Are these bodyscapes, or something else altogether?

When you're slender and stretched, the bones show. Doesn't necessarily indicate concentration camp skinniness. Beyond that, most of these are very muscular women. I think they're beautiful. Do they represent the Only beauty? Of course not, no one ever said so. Haunting, strong, stark, memorable. Kudos to the artist.

So, do you want him to photograph fat women? These models are beautiful and extremely healthy, I really don't see your problem. Also, the spine bones are showing just because of the streching.

I think it's a beautiful idea...I wish there was more body shape and shade variation. He's Russian and likely was photographing Russian women...and that's why most of them are thinner and lighter skin tone. Russian women tend to naturally be on the very thin and petite side, which is also beautiful... but I would love to see him photographing and representing women of the world of all shapes and shades...I think it would have more impact that way. Beautiful photography though, regardless. Perhaps he'll expand his work in the future.

I don't think that every artwork needs to represent every person and every shape. Political correctness has gone too far in that there now seems to be an expectation if someone represents someone as thin / white / blonde they now need to show fat / asian / black / brunette . His work is beautiful. The fact it is only one shape is a part of his art. No one asks for the Mona Lisa to be painted 10 times to represent every woman. Enjoy it in its simplicity.

Come on people... This is not about body acceptance, is not even intended to be about the body itself. It is about the lines and shapes. Art is art, it can be whatever it wants to be. If you want to judge, go and do it in fashion magazines, where they are in fact trying to sell us a especific type of body. Not the case here.

Imho, I'm going to guess that the creator of these images was going for artistic expression in the shapes, tones, light and shadows. I think I see the "women's body" as completely backseat to the creative process.mthe woman's body just happens to hold such lovely curves and artistic lines, that to me it's a genious piece of art.

There is perfection in his work. It needs nothing else, so it is perfect. If he had added anything else or had used any other type of woman, his work would not be perfect. I would definitely not want to see naked fat people no matter how tastefully it was done. FYI, I am a fat person.

There's a reference to Yakovlev's dance photography. I think Yakovlev's work is more accomplished, more interesting than this photographer. Yakovlev makes a better usage of composition, light and shadows, as well as capturing the movements of the dancers beautifully, he also uses props such as the flour to enhance the photographs as well. This photographer obviously knows how to take pictures, but I find his work to be quite boring, formulaic & basic. It's just clean sharp shots of women posing with boring, cold, & flat backgrounds/backdrops. Yaaawwwnnn.......

I love the photography, the composition and the content. Do I think the photographer's idea of beauty is my own, NO. I personally do not find a woman's visible backbone or ribs or any other bone beautiful or sexy. I would like to see photo's of women that are no that thin so that the beauty of ALL women can be represented.

This is interesting and sort of breathtaking. It's beautiful, yet I am put off by the jutting vertebrae and extremely visible rib cages. It suggests malnourishment, even if that is not the case, and (in my personal opinion) detracts from the otherwise lovely photography.

Beautiful photographs, though I agree with most of the comments about 'different body types'. These pictures were made under controlled studio conditions and with, most likely, professional models. Nothing innovative there. Hard to be 'ugly'. I'd like to see and dare Anton to pick 'common' women and portrait their beauty, inner beauty that wants to break out . . .

I'd say this is ok. The women are all the same type either thin or fit. How about the 95% of the other type of female bodies that are not fit or slim. I think this is a very biased vision of a female body. I do not identify with it.

"The beauty of women's bodies" I don't think so. That there, is the problem. This piece is not representative. Its a selection of very thin ladies... and that's it. This is not a representation of 'women's bodies' at all :( :(

It'd be sad if they have to be that skinny (their ribs are visible) to be a model. Their body is beautiful but I don't think many male models are that thin. Male counterparts might need to put excessive muscles instead of being extremely thin, though.

It take one to know one, that is me...I have done this work for years....without being a dancer, no way this beauty would be what it IS

Impressive abstract photos. But dteadful portraits - the human body at its ugliest. Which is not difficult - humans are physically gross.

I don't care what anyone else thinks, the bones don't look good, however it's art and it does make you feel something.

Amazing art capturing unique aspects of beauty of feminine body which in itself is work of immaculate art created by nature, this work surely celebrates that.

There is perfection in his work. It needs nothing else, so it is perfect. If he had added anything else or had used any other type of woman, his work would not be perfect. I would definitely not want to see naked fat people no matter how tastefully it was done. FYI, I am a fat person.

amazing. . .strength and beauty. at first, i was appalled by the spinal-definition, and ribs. .. then I saw the muscles on these women. . . more 'dancer" physique, rather than volleyball or soccer. .. beautiful.

Always idiots with criticism. It's ip to the artist what body type they use. Discrimination should never come in to it. The artists choice.

Beautiful work. The black and white brings detail to every party of the body. Many have posted they wish he would have shot different body types, ethnicities, etc. Maybe for another photo essay. These were shot of women who are dancers, involved in yogi, etc. Fabulous job.

Stunning photos...the black and white brings attention to every detail. I see many saying they wish he would have used different body types, different ethnicities. That's for another photo essay. This dealt with the bodies of dancers, etc. Beautiful work.

Yaaawwwnnn.......

beautiful photography...but if you want to represent the beauty of the female body, you should have many shapes and types of bodies. This is the beauty of one woman's body and that's it. Good work though. B&W always helps

There is an undeniable extreme symmetry as well as supple athleticism. While it shows various ways a body can be posed, I personally didn't think the photos were "beautiful". Certainly startling, though.

Tastefully done. Too bad there has to be body censorship. But Boobs sometimes feel out of place on a hard body.

Oh, my! Why such thin models? At least these ladies have a bit of muscle as opposed to fashion models. Seeing every facet of a person's vertebrate is not appealing to me.

The skeleton is interesting from a light and shadow perspective. But how can one ever hope to show the beauty of the human female with such a restrictive use of body type?

This is interesting and sort of breathtaking. It's beautiful, yet I am put off by the jutting vertebrae and extremely visible rib cages. It suggests malnourishment, even if that is not the case, and (in my personal opinion) detracts from the otherwise lovely photography.

These are awesome pictures....love the black and white...but...isn't there always a but....I am a thin person..not skinny but thin.....some of these woman looked starved...Not a good message to young girls out there...your back bone and vertebrate's should not be showing so sharply. otherwise lovely work of the human form.

These pictures are beautifull, but this is NOT, regular women bodies... I'm not like them, nor the majority of women here. Don't call it "women beauty" when it's clearly chosen athletic beauty...

Fully nude, yet the main priority is to hide the nipples... I won't care to compare this to the Indian perversity of exposed ankle(s). -.-

It'd be sad if they have to be that skinny (their ribs are visible) to be a model. Their body is beautiful but I don't think many male models are that thin. Male counterparts might need to put excessive muscles instead of being extremely thin, though.
