I'm David Tesinsky from Prague and I'm an independent photographer of the subcultures, urban cultures, street stories, and people's stories in general AKA reportage/social documentary photo series. I've made this portrait photography series of the women and men serving life sentence inside of a prison in Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine... One of these serial killers has killed 29 people.

Some of the convicted felons had a wedding right inside of a prison. It was a very traditional one with the wedding night as well. This is supposed to be a prison for the "worst cases" from the whole of Ukraine but the prison looks really above a standard hostel. Very nice and clean showers, for example. Each murderer has a TV. There is a room for rent for one to several nights in case the prison inmate would like to spend some time in private with his/her lover or husband/wife. It cost about 4€ a night.

All convicted were cooperating well. Ukrainian journalist Oleksiy Naumenko went there with me and helped me to get access to the jail and that's how I got the chance to take these interesting photos.

Are women allowed to have makeup in prison in the Ukraine? I am fairly certain that they aren't in the US, it'd be interesting to know why it is allowed here.
