I'm David Tesinsky from Prague and I'm an independent photographer of the subcultures, urban cultures, street stories, and people's stories in general AKA reportage/social documentary photo series. I've made this portrait photography series of the women and men serving life sentence inside of a prison in Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine... One of these serial killers has killed 29 people.
Some of the convicted felons had a wedding right inside of a prison. It was a very traditional one with the wedding night as well. This is supposed to be a prison for the "worst cases" from the whole of Ukraine but the prison looks really above a standard hostel. Very nice and clean showers, for example. Each murderer has a TV. There is a room for rent for one to several nights in case the prison inmate would like to spend some time in private with his/her lover or husband/wife. It cost about 4€ a night.
All convicted were cooperating well. Ukrainian journalist Oleksiy Naumenko went there with me and helped me to get access to the jail and that's how I got the chance to take these interesting photos.

Are women allowed to have makeup in prison in the Ukraine? I am fairly certain that they aren't in the US, it'd be interesting to know why it is allowed here.

I think not much of us can relate them to serial killer if it wasn't for the background story and lightning and post processing. Bad people don't necessarily look bad in real life. That's the scary part for me
Even scarier, they might not be necessarily "bad people" as is. They might have multiple personalities, totally unaware and uncontrollable. Or they might see some sense of justice within these murders, like "punishing the bad guys". Either way, it's sick.
Load More Replies...thank you all for checking my story, feel free to write me if you have any idea / suggestion for a story / if you know someone in the world with somehow (and visually) special lifestyle.
