I Created A Portrait On 100-Year-Old Barn Wood

Sometimes beauty is created as something is breaking. It bleeds in through the cracks and comes in to fill the spaces where it is needed most. A long battle with depression was my personal breaking point. As I hit rock bottom, I began desperately searching for something that would bring me joy and peace, and I found both God and painting in the process. This piece is a literal representation of the evolution from broken to beautiful. Reclaimed and rotting wood, a man who has known true hardship, and a finished painting that brings the two together in a true and beautiful way.

This piece (6’ x 6’ acrylic on wood) will be featured in Acting Out Fest 2017, an art festival for mental health and addiction awareness, September 13-16, Gordon Square, Cleveland.

What a beautiful physical representation of the healing power of art.
