If something is popular, you have to assume it’s for a reason, right? That artist that everyone is thrilled to go see in concert must have released a great album this year. And if everyone you know is wearing the same pair of shoes, well, they must be incredibly comfortable!

But no matter how trendy something becomes, you don’t actually have to like it. In fact, if you reveal that you’re not a fan, there are probably plenty of other people who would agree with you. Redditors have recently been discussing popular things that they couldn’t care less about, so we’ve gathered some of their unpopular opinions below. Enjoy scrolling through, and keep reading to find a conversation with the person who started this thread in the first place!

To find out how this conversation started in the first place, we reached out to Reddit user Routine-Award-3382, who posed the question, "What's popular right now that you have zero interest in?”

They were kind enough to have a chat with Bored Panda, revealing that they always see people follow trends, but recently, they stopped caring about what is popular. "Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of popular things, but there is just so much out there that bores me. So I was curious if anyone felt the same way," the OP explained.

People Are Pointing Out Things That Are Popular But They Don’t Get Why Any reality or dating shows. Bachelor/ette, golden whatever, love island, Real housewives of some s****y place, I don't give a s**t about any of them. I don't enjoy watching trashy people yell at each other or try to hook up. Competitive reality shows like Crime Scene kitchen, great British bake off, Amazing Race are exceptions.

Oh and I f*****g hate Survivor and Big Brother.

The perfect reality TV show from a TV executives point of view (I am assuming Australian ones but probably equally applicable to other countries) would involve a group of unmarried celebrities renovating a kitchen, then cooking a meal, dancing and singing for a group of judges (presided over by a supposedly successful businessman), with the lowest scorer being kicked off the island. I'm surprised no one hasn't done it already

I like the competitive ones, too, but mostly because I like watching people create cool stuff. I DON'T like forced drama and stress, like impromptu "challenges" or too little time to sabotage contestants. Give people time and means to actually work their magic and see who's best, not "whose hasty muddling is executed least badly".

I still enjoy Survivor, but it's becoming more obvious every season that there's a lot of work being done on the contestants behind the scenes. 15 days in, and the ladies' hair & make-up are still perfect, everyone looks shower-fresh, and while I knew that they didn't choose their own outfits (had a co-worker whose best man from her wedding was on one season, and she said he *hated* the tank top they made him wear), they are far too color-coordinated by team these days. I used to watch Real Housewives of NJ/OC/Vancouver. I tried rewatching RHOOC from the beginning seasons. I just can't understand what I saw in that show. I guess some characters interested me. I liked Lydia from Canada. She seemed to be the most grounded and undramatic at first. But I guess the show needed her to get in the drama more and she got more catty. But you could tell it wasn't who she really was. I think she was on that show for one season. I recall a time they were all skiing in Whistler. Vicki was screaming about something to someone on the mountain, risking an avalanche, while Lydia was making snow angels a few feet away.

Only reality show that is any good is Naked and Afraid and the spin offs, Deadliest Catch is ok to. Only reason I've watched those is my spouse though, wouldn't have watched them without him. Cooking/baking shows/competitions and crime shows are awesome though.

There's very little that's real in Reality TV. Almost every interaction is scripted, scenes are re-shot for heightened drama, and viewers votes don't actually count for much in shows like Survivor. Producers also tend to fill the roster with weirdoes, with only a smattering of normal people to maintain some level of sanity. Ultimately, we end up watching a bunch of nutjobs yelling at each other over trivial or made up issues, as orchestrated by the shows' creators.

We were also curious about some of the popular things that Routine-Award-3382 couldn't care less about. "Donald Trump, politics overall, trendy clothing, [and] liking stuff just because it is retro," they said.

But why do so many people care about these things? "I think most people just want to be part of the popular crowd. A lot of people weren't popular growing up, and this may be the only way they can be," the author explained. "I think it is a little bit of wanting to and being obligated to like these things. People don't wanna be left behind, and people always want to be a part of something."

Finally, we asked the OP what they thought of the replies to their post. "I was surprised when so many people responded. It was hard to read them all, but at this moment, it's over 12,000 responses. It actually made me feel popular!" they said with a laugh.

"Most of the answers were what I expected from politics to certain music artists, and more. I think what stood out to me the most was when people said they have no idea what is popular right now," the author continued. "I totally get that, but at the same time, how can you not? Especially when there is so much content coming at us from all directions."

People Are Pointing Out Things That Are Popular But They Don’t Get Why Botox

Ok I like whiffle tennis! That’s funny! Especially since it keeps autocorrecting to waffle tennis.

Bike shorts is what we called them when I was younger. Now I don't call them anything because I'm too fat and would never wear them. :)

Once you play one CoD you've played them all. What I don't understand are the Faze titles with the random-seeming names. Faze Rug, Faze Lamp, Faze Swamp, Faze Hula Hoop. I know it has something to do with CoD and getting the most kills or rank. Something like that. But talk about making a game rank your whole personality.

This is the only one I'll disagree with on this list so far. I enjoy anime, however I don't use it as my entire personality.

Live and let live on all spectrums. You do you, I'll do me, and we can be a big ol' happy family.
