Have you ever thought about what your favorite childhood characters would look like if they were in a horror movie? Brazilian digital artist Felipe Rui Fernandes, based in Sao Paulo, has really taken this idea to the extremes!

Courage the Cowardly Dog smoking a cigarette, Mickey Mouse looking super creepy, and SpongeBob bringing the chills rather than the usual laughs — check out how Felipe reimagined these famous characters.

Safe to say, I am now officially in my Halloween mood.

The artist told Bored Panda: "Regarding my inspiration to create my models, which most of the time can be a little scary, is actually just a way I found to express some feelings I feel when I see everyday things that people don't normally stop to reflect. Today's values are very distorted, man has lost his connection with the divine in many ways and I like to transpose this visually into my creations, cute and docile-looking characters are campaign mascots that basically have no good intentions. Things like this made me reach the result I've been practicing in recent times. My art expresses a lot the feelings I have in a certain period of time, in my own portfolio you'll find several styles, I can assimilate each phase with a kind of feeling, and I particularly like it because not having a defined style allows me to experiment with various types of language."

Felipe also added: "The idea is always to bring a message of reflection, aesthetically ugly characters, which bring ideas such as self-care or what kind of message in people's subconscious that it wants to promote. It's a way to review all the content I consumed in my childhood and see from the perspective of an adult how all this was questioned and absorbed."

When asked how he got into this sphere, Filipe says: "I've been in contact with art since I was very young, my mother is an artist and since I've known myself, I've been in a studio, having contact with painting. I've always been fascinated with creating, no matter the medium and the technique."
