Perseverance Exhibit: The Artistry Of Weiss And Schmitt At The Pomona Cultural Center
The Pomona Cultural Center serves as a sanctuary for the arts, highlighting the diversity and creativity of the community through unforgettable art exhibits and cultural events. Under the guidance of curator Tjokorda Gde Arsa Artha, the cultural center is currently featuring the ‘Perseverance’ exhibit, showcasing the works of Mark Weiss and Catherine Schmitt.
Mark Weiss is a contemporary painter known for his striking pieces that blend abstraction and realism. Drawing inspiration from his personal experiences and the energy of life, Weiss explores themes of identity, emotion, and the human condition. His masterful use of dynamic brushstrokes, powerful colors, and haunting details creates artworks that are both visually captivating and profoundly introspective, inviting viewers into an otherworldly realm where angels, demons, and hidden images collide.
Sculptor Catherine Schmitt, originally from Paris, France, was drawn to stone carving, particularly the work of Josee De Creef, under whom she studied at New York’s Art Students League, later continuing her studies at the city’s Studio School. A natural builder and shape-maker, Schmitt’s artwork is inspired by the challenges of diverse projects, the people she has met, and the stories she has encountered. Her use of materials and textures is complex and intriguing, with a narrative quality that each viewer experiences differently.
The Pomona Cultural Center and curator Tjokorda Gde Arsa Artha provide a vital space for artistic expression, bringing together a broad spectrum of voices, perspectives and cultures. Through exhibits like ‘Perseverance’, it offers a unique platform for artists Mark Weiss and Catherine Schmitt to share their captivating works, encouraging reflection and dialogue. On exhibit until March 16th at the Pomona Cultural Center, 584 Route 306, Pomona, New York.
