Decent people don't feel the need to personally draw attention to the fact of someone they don't find attractive though. so yes making fun and not finding attractive "can" be two very different things. but if you're gonna draw attention to that fact. then the line has been crossed into making fun. or whatever other things it could be called.

you don't walk around commenting on everything you "don't find attractive". that's how NORMAL people behave, apparently you're not one of them.

Ben Smith: Even if you were correct, you're ignoring a little thing called genetics - which makes some people's poor choices (eating and lack of exercise) visibly evident, while others can get away with living an unhealthy lifestyle while still appearing "fit." I watch people smaller than me making worse daily choices, while I struggle just to maintain "chubby." So don't tell me you judge solely on lifestyle choices, unless you also question every normal-sized woman you see eating something besides salad.

Oh Laura...not everything can be blamed on genetics. Genetics might mean you'll never have a 6 pack...or conversely ALWAYS have a six pack despite an unhealthy lifestyle. Genetics, however doesn't cause morbid obesity any more than it causes being severely underweight. It's a convenient excuse I know, but that's all it is in many cases: an excuse.

Manowce, c'mon. Just by living life you make it known what you don't find attractive. The clothes you wear, the car you drive, your spouse...all those things show one's preference. This guy went a little above and beyond sure, but it's a damn joke. As another person posted, women have posted this exact same meme, but with men and no one lost their s**t over it.

Please explain how being fat is a choice. Not everyone who is fat sits around all day eating. There are so many factors that affect a person's weight, but I'd be wasting my time reviewing all of these things with you. More important, you can't assess a person's level of health just by looking at them, so don't bother to try.

Phil...the vast majority of overweight people - not ALL - but still the majority are overweight because of poor diet and lack of exercise. Those are choices, plain and simple. And youre right, you can't assess a person's Health just by looking at them. However, it's fair to say that an overweight person is more likely to be unhealthy and die younger than a person of a healthy, normal weight.

That woman does have an hourglass figure. "hourglass" isn't in reference to size or weight: it's the shape.

Once-upon-a-time I weighed 155lbs, and holy s**t did I look scary. Bones were sticking out everywhere and I looked pretty gaunt. For me, 185 pounds is a healthy weight. Other people my same height look pretty fat at 185, for me I look good. The numbers themselves and the 'normal graph' hardly mean a thing.

Lisa Burns, I understand what you are saying. I imagine this study was talking about people who were 20-30 pounds 'overweight'. I use air quotes because there is a number and once you're over that, you're overweight (it can vary doctor to doctor). Many people are called fat when they are healthy and I am almost sure that this is the case with this woman. I know many women who are 10 or 15 pounds overweight and they freak out and keep stressing over a few pounds. I wouldn't be surprised if half of 'overweight' Americans were only 10, 15, 20, or 30 pounds over. I agree with you that when you are a certain weight in no world is it healthy. I brought up the study because Haunting Spirit said if you are fat, you're unhealthy, which I think we can agree is untrue. I am not condoning being extremely overweight, I was trying to inform. And yes, I am sure this study was a little biased in some way. All I was trying to say is that the standard can't hold true for everyone because (1 of 2)

Oh really? So that study was able to get in touch with all Americans and/or their medical records that are overweight to verify that half of overweight Americans are healthy? Guess what studies are often biased and not completely accurate due to the fact that they can only measure a certain sample size. Studies have also shown that being overweight is unhealthy but right let's only pick the study that we like the results of because it's easier to pretend you can be overweight and healthy instead of putting the work into losing excess fat. For that matter, what did that study classify as overweight? Being "big" or "thick" is not necessarily the same as "excessively overweight" or "obese". You can likely be healthy at 20-30 lbs overweight but we have a LOT of people who are 50, 70, 100+ lbs overweight and there's no way that's healthy. Genetics and medical issues don't account for the vast majority who are excessively overweight or obese and they don't make it impossible, just harder.

Nope nope nope. That's a cop out. Healthy food is plenty affordable. Fruit and veggies are cheap. Lean meat might cost a bit more, but the real problem is that healthy eating is MORE DIFFICULT. you have to read labels and cook. Many are unwilling to do that.
