They can't be bothered creating the infrastructure needed for that demographic- an additional factory, better educated designers, etc.- but that doesn't excuse them. Also, the woman in this BoredPanda article proved that in some cases their argument that curvy women just wouldn't look as good in the same garments is b******t. They're the biggest retailer. Women like to shop there. But hey, they can just shop on Amazon, am I right? Insulting. Who gives a f**k? They do. I do. Lots of people do.

Surely, you don't mean "curvier" when speaking of plus-sized women...You mean 'fat'. Fat is the opposite of skinny. If you're going to call slender, slim, normal-sized women "skinny", then you mean to call the opposite of such, 'fat'!! Skinny is NOT some sort of flattery to those of us who are not overweight, nor skinny. Thank you.

That's much too reality-grounded for most people who read this, but you're absolutely right. And the target market is who -- women ? I don't think so. Victoria's Secret isn't stupid, they know who keeps them in business.

But isn't she a gorgeous model? She is an aspirational beauty, that makes me feel that if I would wear these clothes I would look as good as her. I wonder if these test really include models like her?

Psychological studies and analysis also show that we tend to love and find beautiful what we are used seeing. So saying that we are most likely to love and buy the conventionnal beauty is a shortcut and an easy excuse for the industry to not even try to change. In fact, it ignores the capacity of people to find beauty elsewhere. We just need to see that it exists. Why do we think that the thin tall white and blonde girl is the «conventionnal beauty» ? Because we see it everywhere.

You've actually just described why I don't spend any money on this industry. It exists because of women's low self esteem and I honestly feel perfect the way that I am.

B******t. I personally think the curvier model looked BETTER in these garments. The shots of her made me more interested in the product. I can't possibly be in the minority with that- lots of dudes like curvy ladies, and it's not THAT hard to make them look hot in photo ads. You just need to hire the right people. I think the fashion industry has become something of an echo chamber of its own nonesense.

But it's self-perpetuating: those slim women are probably purchasing because the products are made and catered to them. Also, media glorifies slim women. Average to large women maybe don't know what looks hot on them because nobody's been arsed to design things specifically for their size, they haven't seen curvier women in lingerie ads or in most other visual media, it's harder to find stuff that fits them, etc etc etc. There is no market for them because the industry can't be bothered to get off its a*s and do it properly, and justifies its ignorance with "but they don't buy as much". They don't buy as much maybe because there's less for them to buy. Duh.

Go eat a load of food and see what shape you become. It will look nothing like this. Almost everyone who gains weight gets it in their face, stomach and arms. The new standard of having a flat stomach and small arms with fat thighs, butt and breasts is flat out unrealistic and unattainable for the vast majority of people. It has literally nothing to do with calories. You’ll just gain weight and it won’t be distributed like hers. I guarantee your body is nothing like the fat model and wouldn’t be no matter how much weight you gained or lost.

Congratulations? There’s women out there who woke up with the body of Giselle, does that make it more realistic as a standard? No offense but if that’s you in the photo, you do not have the shape of the heavy model by a long shot. And that’s normal because hardly anyone does or could, no matter what their weight is. You are a prime example of what I’m talking about. You gain weight like most women, including me! The weight is in your upper body too, not just your breasts and lower body. It’s soft and not firm. It’s not just “curves,” it’s fat. That’s how most people gain weight!

I don’t think the point she tried to make was that she isn’t fat. Whatever you decide to call her, her body type is way more unrealistic than the thin model. The shape she has is totally unattainable for almost everyone. The thin model has a shape that most anyone could achieve through diet and exercise. It’s not healthy to have these unrealistic extremely curvy models as the new beauty standard. It just encourages more people to view their own bodies as insufficient and seek surgery or overeating to attain her shape. Her shape is ridiculously unrealistic for a person of any weight.

It’s entirely negative to promote any shape that’s not common or attainable for most women. Being fat with big butt, round hips, big boobs and six pack abs is so much more unrealistic than just “thin.” They keep pushing this shape as if you’re less of a woman for being average weight with small breasts and square hips. This is a very very very unhealthy standard, moreso than just being under weight.

we sure as hell shouldn't shame anybody on their appearances, but it's also wrong to enforce the "everyone is equally beautiful" paradigm, because it's absolutely not true — say Harvey Weinstein is NOT "equally beautiful" to the lady in the post. Beauty itself is a very subjective category and should be accepted as such. This being said everyone is entitled to say someone they like is beautiful, but nobody is entitled to say the other person is ugly.

no, ben, saying "she is ugly" is just rude. you can as well say "she's not my type". but it takes class and some consideration which you apparently don't have.
