It seems like no matter how hard they try; plus-size women still face heartbreaking amounts of adversity when trying to break into the world of fitness. One activewear and outdoor clothing brand, however, just hired a plus-size model who wants to change that, and they’re even getting involved in the body positivity fight themselves.

Academy Sports and Outdoors has chosen plus-size Instagram fashion model Anna O’Brien as the new face of their ‘BCG’ line, which runs up to size 3X for women. The New York-based O’Brien has struggled to keep an active life herself over the years and blames some of the anxiety she felt towards working out on a lack of available and affordable plus-size clothes. “This single challenge is one of the greatest barriers to plus-size women becoming active,” she wrote for Academy’s Instagram page. Though O’Brien rocked a sporty photo shoot that has now attracted more than 13 thousand likes, not everyone watching had something nice to say about plus-size fashion and her photos.

Though O’Brien has proven herself in the past to be more than capable of putting Internet trolls in their place, Academy issued an excellent response of their own when they noticed a particularly nasty body shaming comment under one of her photos. It’s an encouraging step in the right direction towards acceptance of all bodies that strive to be fit. Scroll down to see what was said, and add your thoughts at the end.

“For plus size women, finding active wear that fits and is available in-store is nearly impossible,” she writes

“I spent 25 years waiting to be active. Now I will spend 25 more helping people of all sizes see the benefits of moving more”

Still, even in the face of such a noble goal, a cruel individual felt the need to express their negativity

Though O’Brien is a pro at dealing with Internet trolls, the response to this one came from a surprising source…

that's not plus sized. that's beyond morbidly obese. like, death at 42. i accept her if she's trying to get healthier, but "healthy at every size" is the biggest b******t i've ever heard. i am fat as f**k myself, but i'm doing something about it.

But the thing is that, to make an unhealthy obese person go and do positive changes, they should be given encouraging messages to get them moving, not criticism to make them hide and do nothing. What's important is that what she's doing, not how she looks, but this point seems to sadly always be lost in debates what's healthy and beautiful and what'a not. Who cares? You are doing something about your health - that's wonderful! She is doing something too - that's amazing! And if anyone who reads this feels too ashamed to do a positive change about themselves, please, know that your efforts make you beautiful, and I wish you best of luck! We've all been through hard times, and the struggle never ends. Same goes for all those charming role models you look up to. As long as your expectations are real and you have a plan, you can achieve wonders as well, so don't let the bullies get you down! Their words speak of themselves, not of you.

I love that they used a plus-sized model because, as someone who is borderline plus sized, exercise needs to be more accessible and attractive. I shouldn’t feel ashamed to run because of my weight because then I won’t be able to CHANGE my weight! They’re not promoting being plus size, they’re promoting not being too ashamed of it to not go outside, run, be free and enjoy life. Kudos to this company!

I could write a thesis in agreement. Let's put it this way: I was the skinny athletic chick. I'm now the borderline "plus-size" chick, after gaining 20kgs / 45lbs, after surviving 2motorbike accidents, and dealing with neck / back / hips / knees / ankles injuries..... Now that I'm in a position to start being more active, my biggest challenge is finding *any* clothes that I feel comfortable in.... workout gear is even more challenging to find!!

Why are people so afraid that obesity is suddenly going to be social acceptable. Girls who are even slightly over weight are shamed for it from elementary school. Let the woman feel good about a cute work out outfit with out screaming about how unhealthy she is. Believe me, she is aware.

I don't know about that.. ? Simply bc so many ppl are overweight now.. and yes, ppl are trying to normalize it. I'm not saying ppl should be bullied.. but, I think ppl need to be encouraged to eat more healthy.

I am not huge, but I am overweight. I get so upset because I want to work out and I have a job that involves being outdoors. This means I need activewear and hiking gear. It is SO HARD to find clothes in these categories that fit! It's like the world sends the message "you're fat, do something about it," but at the same time "you're fat, we aren't going to provide the gear needed for you to do something about it. Just stop being fat." I LOVE to see big active wear! It means we can work out and do something to get healthy and fit into those popular sizes! Like Becca the Bear said, make exercise accessible!

in my experience, the hardest part on working out is: working out. Not finding appropriate clothes. I have all the active wear, but am still too damn lazy to workout outdoors. So i found my perfect solution in working out at home, on my yoga mat, watching youtube fitness channels...in my undies if i want to!!;)

Exactly! You don't accidently put on that much weight. It would be so expensive to consume the amount of food required to get to that size. To lose weight, she didn't have to 'buy more stuff'. She just needed to buy less stuff.

So not finding suiting active wear is the greatest challenge that had her "waiting 25 years to be active" ?? Well big news, you don't need no specialy marketed b******t to do most of sports... I'd get as obstacles the look of others or the fact she probly can't walk more than a mile at a time, but clothes really ? she's a living exemple of what's wrong in our consumerist society, resumed in 4 words : instagram model fashion blogger.

So, fashion always either picks a model that is no where near "plus size" or they pick one that's.. uhm... just obese? It is really good that she's getting excercize though but kinda wierd having to wait 25 years to do so because lack of good clothes? Although sure, having cute/goodlooking outfits can be more motivating than just a plain shirt&sweatpants but....

Sorry, but that is morbidly obese. I weigh well over 300 lbs myself... So I know. I don't know her story, because it doesn't go into much detail here, just that she's being "fat shamed". If her goal is to encourage other obese women to follow her on her journey to ACTUALLY get healthy, then GOOD for her! If her goal is to say she's healthy as is... She's leading young women to believe that morbidly obese is "just" plus size and they should be happy the way they are. If that's the case shame on her! Every woman that dies at a young age due to health issue is ON HER.

So while I think "large" people have the MOST right to be at the gym (EVERYONE should be at the gym), I have a hard time believing the only thing keeping them from getting off the couch is a pair of yoga pants. While I may be in pretty good shape, I still don't care that my normal gym clothes generally consist of old printed t shirts and shorts that have a couple paint splotches on them. I gotta tell you, 95% of the people at the gym don't give two sh**s about what you look like, they're more insecure about themselves than anyone else.

It's not as much about something that looks good, it's more about something that actually fits and is comfortable to move around in. Let's see you go try to work out in jeans that are too tight or no sports bra and a huge bust. Some women with larger breasts have literally knocked themselves out with a boob because of improper gym attire to keep them in place.

Or strap a couple of two pound bags of fat to your chest without anything to hold them in place and see how far you get before you knock yourself out or at the very least have them slapping your ribcage so hard it hurts your lungs.

I have a mixed response to this - I used to weigh almost 500 pounds and lost about 260 of it -- mine was due to being on steroids nearly all my life for asthma - I always worked out even when I was 500 pounds - and the line that she couldn't work out because she couldn't find clothes - COME ON - there are jogging pants in all sizes - which is what I wore -- I believe everyone should be treated equally, but I also, as a heavy person who was one morbidly obese as this gal is - would never ever pose in clothes and dresses as unflattering as she has - I think if you dress like that - just like those that dress like sluts -- you have to be willing to accept the backlash because there are just those kinds of unkind people in the world. However, that being said I don't think it's necessary to flaunt being heavey, like that girl on that fat girl show on TLC I think she's disgusting.

I like how you think that is a "mic drop" moment. How low is your bar for a comeback? Whenever there is a story that starts with (insert random name) "shuts down body shamers", its never a shut down. Its always that same boring response. Thats just hack writing. Good for her for getting into shape, but claiming that you didnt get in shape due to the lack of work out gear in your size is a cop out.

It's fantastic she's moving and trying to get healthy, it's just that the reality is, she's not plus-sized she's morbidly obese. What has lead to her being this big?? She's either using food to "feed" her emotions, or has an abusive past, so the psychology of being this size must be addressed as well. That goes for everyone who are obese. I hope succeeds, she'll certainly feel a lot better. As for clothing, why would anyone want to wear clingy, tight clothes that shows every roll and bulge?? Surely you'd feel more self-conscious knowing that your gut can be clearly seen hanging to your knees and your arms are flapping in the wind?? Just put on a pair of men's super sized board shorts and a monster Hawaiian shirt and off you go.

I agree with the clothing manufacturer supporting and encouraging fitness by making the larger sizes available . However, no one should use the lack of available sizes in trendy fitness wear as an excuse for not exercising. If you have old clothes to lay around the house in , you can sweat outside in them too . The β€œanxiety” will melt away when you see results on the scale .

Can we stop with this s**t? Shes f*****g obese as can be. Her life in jeopardy. Period. That is NOT healthy. This is not a case where you praise this s**t. There is fat and then there is insanely morbidly obese. Do not praise such things. We dont praise smokers, right? Same thing. I understand there are challenges when that big. But at a certain point the resposibility is with that person. Why praise the obese? its ridiculous. If we are going to do such things, then lets advertise horrible lifestyles. I"m not heartless. I'm not saying to NOT support these folks. But at a certain point we have to be realisitic. She needs to get into better shape or she dies. Its that simple.

How do you suggest she gets into better shape? By working out perhaps? Now I wonder if they sell workout clothes in a size as large as hers? Oh, that's the point of the post is it?! Encouraging obese people to work out with appropriate clothing so they can get healthier? And she's facing massive criticism for helping this brand to encourage people like her to work out? Surely that's what's worthy of praise... ?

Why should she cover up? To please YOU? Nope. All she need be concerned about is being comfortable in her own skin and taking care of herself as she sees fit. If you don't like what she's wearing, that's YOUR issue, not hers. I would be so very happy to see women not wearing their underwear for outerwear or shorts that reveal half of their a*s-cheeks, and men with their pants actually on as they were made to be (how ridiculous is it to have to hold one's pants up with a hand while already wearing a belt?!). But that's my hang up, not theirs.

"Not everyone is overweight by choice" well, unless it's a medical problem (which was not specified), overeating, unhealthy eating and lack of exercise is probably the cause for someone to become that obese. Quite frankly, this shouldn't be normalized as it can seriously impact your health and quality of life.

There is no medical problem on the planet that would cause someone to become 400+ Lbs. Just fat people who continue to shovel more and more morsels of calorie ridden food down their maws. For every pound they gain, they have to eat more calories to maintain that extra pound, and more calories for the pound after that... Ad infinitum.

I am usually so supportive of plus size models, many are stunning. But this is the first time I will say that this lady is seriously risking her life, this is running into the critically dangerous. I hope she is actually exercising because she will feel so much better and this is coming from someone who has also battled with weight but managed to lose it. It is so worth it! You can stay a bit curvy if it's part of your identity, but if you want to stick around, you got to put in that effort for yourself more than anything. I wish her luck!

Obesity is not about beauty. It's about not being healthy at all. And don't be smart telling me that there are thin people that aren't healthy as well. I do know that. But obesity has way more damages, besides the fact that you just don't fit almost anywhere. "Oh, so we gotta change the world so they can feel embraced". Academy is going to sell product to anyone that has money. That's not a plus size model that's morbidly obese. With that photo shoot, they might want to add a disclaimer that a physician should be prescribing the level of activities she is portraying as being active. Really ? running ? She is very pretty with as cute smile. Obviously, she needs to have good people in her life who will support and encourage her. If anyone thinks she is happy about her obesity, think again. I hope she doesn’t read these comments. They are so mean-spirited and hurtful for someone who is in her position. She has a long way to go and wishing her the best would be a lot more helpful than the name calling and judgement by people who have no idea who she is or what happened in her life that caused her to do such harm to herself. .

This lady spent 25 years waiting to be active because she could not find any work out gear to fit?... Are leggings and a T shirt not work out gear? Awesome job for deciding to get active (and I hopefully completely overhauling your lifestyle and diet as that is what will really shift the pounds) but surely this is a bit of an excuse...

Being fat is the last thing that people think is still ok to make fun of or shame the person. If a person had cancer, would you shame them for that? So many over weight people can not help their condition! I have a sister who is 300 pds. She didn't start out that way but due to a serious medical condition the weight has come on steadily over the yrs and it breaks her heart. She can't exercise due to her illness and she doesn't eat badly or even that much but due to inactivity the pds. come on. She hates the way she looks and has become house bound because some a*s on the street made fun of her one day and ever since that, she refuses to leave the house!! Not all fat people are lazy or eat too much. A lot of them have valid reasons for their condition. It's wrong to shame anyone for their body type. You don't have to approve, just keep your idiotic mouth shut about it. Body shaming is bullying and we all know that is wrong right?!!

The more out-of-shape someone is, the more courage it takes to get active! High standards hurt more than they help; my mom always says things like, "they want you to do 20 minutes, but I'm too tired after 5!". So, she just gives up and does nothing. That's not healthy. We need to cheer people on when they start finding their personal edge and pushing forward toward better health.

I love the fact that she is working so hard and not listening to all these negative people calling her names and saying mean things. Why should the way we look matter? We all look different. Some people have short hair, some have long. Some people have light hair some people have dark hair. Some people are tall, some people are short. Some people are plump some people are skinny. We are all different in out own ways. It doesn't matter whats on the inside, it only matters whats on the inside, that's what truly counts. We should all learn to put our differences aside and just get along!

I myself am totally fed up with liberals and their stupidity. We are supposed to accept overweight people, even though the vast majority of people that are overweight are a result of poor life choices. Liberals also expect us to pay for the medical expenses of everyone, including those who make poor life choices. The real answer is not for society to be more accepting, but for people to make better choices in their lives.

Now I have women saying I am vain, not "real" and should "have a sandwich". I have been snarled at for being too skinny and accused of not understanding the struggle. Body shaming must STOP. Fat, thin, short, tall - be happy, be healthy, be YOU. And let others be.

I am 5'5, and I weigh 380lbs. I went most of my life believing I had MRSA and was highly contagious, so exercising in gyms was out. Because it came with boils and huge abscesses whenever I sweated, most exercising at all was out. It finally nearly killed me about 5 years ago, and I was ultimately diagnosed with Hidradenitis. It causes plugged sweat glands. Any time I go out and am walking, I am judged. Any time I wear something other than jeans, because the disease is bad that month, I am judged. Any time the disease is flaring up and walking isn't happening without putting me in the ER so I have to use a scooter at the store, I am judged. As dangerous as it was, I still ignored my body's warning signs to prove that my weight wasn't a hindrance, that I was still a human being worthy of being treated with at least the respect people would give a damn dog. I almost died.

Why? Not for me. For society, those judgmental f***s that tell me that who I am isn't good enough, because gods forbid I be fat through no fault of my own. God forbid I put LIVING over losing weight. I ended up in the hospital, and even had a weight loss surgery which, surprise, didn't work, because unbeknownst to most, not all fat people gorge themselves on junk food, sodas, and park themselves on the couch binge watching Netflix. Having breathable, safe active-wea that I could use without sweating as much, which could wick the sweat away from my skin and potentially protect me from more breakouts, would save my life, and yes, be what I would need in order to start exercising again. You do not know her story. You do not know her health. You do not know if, like me, she was unable to exercise as much before because of health reasons and that better activewear WAS a concern. Trying to exercise in sweats? I'd end up in the ER a week later, gone septic again.

I wouldn't say that's plus sized... but it's true that some skinny people can be less healthy than plus sized people. Some size zero people starve themselves and throw up anything that is more calories than they anticipated. I'm not shaming either at all, just pointing something out.

I am honestly very happy for her! I don't know her at all but some people don't choose to be "overweight" it just kind of happens. We shouldn't judge people based on there looks. We are all different in our own way. Some are short or tall, plump or skinny. Boy or girl. Either way, no matter what we are, we are all equal and I fell like we should treat people like they are. Its not fair. You go girl! I am very proud of you for doing you and not listening to the negative people around you!

I'm always sickened at how easy it is for people to be mean and judgmental when hiding behind a keyboard. All kinds of people live in this world, fat, skinny, medium sized whatever. What is a truly healthy lifestyle by the way? Do the fitness trolls so quick to blame "overweight" folks, not drink alcohol, smoke, eat meat, eat fish or drink dairy? It costs a lot of money in today's society to eat healthy and everyone doesn't have that access. Weight doctors, nutritionists and fitness gyms are not free. I'm sure no one wants to be unhealthy but there are a lot of triggers to entice people to over indulge in eating. TV, internet, magazines, and cell phones all constantly show food ads. What about sex, nowadays that ain’t healthy either. I guess these trolls can stay in a freaking bubble. I say, Anna, do you girl! Critics.. Get stuffed!!

The way you get people to lose weight and be healthy is not by shaming them, that just ends in body image issues and can lead to things like mental health issues and eating disorders. You encourage them, and treat them like normal people. Then, they can make the choice to eat better and exercise. (Although it's important to note that fat people may be healthy, or trying to become healthier. You can't just assume their fat and not doing anything about it.) Also, you're showing fat people being active? Isn't that what you want? To encourage healthier lifestyles? When people fat-shame active fat people, it's not for their health, they're just fatphobic.

Address the prevalence of BPA in our society. It causes women to get a double dose of estrogen making them plus queen size. It causes men to have moobs and become obese. The BPA is found in almost all plastics, cash register reciepts, lining of canned goods, and in numerous other articles. If you are fat and want to get smaller, never heat food in the microwave in plastic containers. I would even go as far as removing the food from the microwave safe container and putting it on real glass or real paper plates. Limit your consumption of canned goods. Use real glasses not plastic or styrofoam. Some places will try to tell you their styrofoam is BPA free. It may be. I have used real glass since learning about this BPA. I use real paper plates. I limit canned good consumption. I rarely heat or use microwavable food. There are some brands of microwave food that come in all paper containers. The amount of food or sedentary lifestyle is only a part of the picture.

Oh, that's exciting. Trying to find active wear in larger sizes is well nigh impossible. I've been trying for ages and it's really depressing. Going into Summer I'd love to have something lighter to wear over summer at the gym. It's such a barrier to really going for it when you can't find a sports bra that works. Good on them for using a model that reflects their size range - so often even when brands have plus sizes you'd never know by looking at the models they use.

I am a large woman who, several years ago, decided to start biking every day because as a child I loved to ride my bike. So I bought a bike and, after a couple hard falls (learning how to handle my weight on a normal sized bike) I rode off. So, for those who only "accept" fat people if they are actively trying to get more fit (which begs the question, If you don't see them exercising, does that mean they're not trying? Perhaps they work out in the safety of their own home.) I ask you: How does your condemnation of fat people you don't accept help? It is not motivating to be scorned and judged by strangers. Every person, regardless if body type or size, is worthy of respect, love and acceptance. It's once you show us WHO you are (a judgy, self-righteous troll) that you begin to be less worthy of respect. Be kind; understand that you don't know what another person's struggles might be and that their physical appearance has less to do with their humanity than any other aspect of their person. Unfortunately, I know plenty of size 0-8 people who are obnoxious, mean-spirited, genuinely ugly people who would do well to keep their ugliness hidden by keeping their mouths shut.

I think it's dumb that people are fat shaming in this instance, because she's literally promoting an active lifestyle to people of this body size. This could encourage obese people to exercise and be more active, which will help them with medical problems. You're literally shaming people and saying that they shouldn't be able to start exercising and they should just be ashamed of their weight even though exercise is a key factor to losing all that unhealthy weight. What else are they supposed to do? A diet alone only does so much.

I can understand shaming an obese person with plate piled six inches high with fried food at a buffet. I can understand shaming a fat person on their third piece of cake at a party. What I can't for the life of me understand is shaming an overweight person who is exercising! I've seen and experienced this at gyms, pools, walking trails in parks, even physical therapy facilities. Out of shape people are doing what they SHOULD be doing when they exercise, and should be encouraged, not ridiculed. If you really hate fat people that much, at least ignore them when they are taking action to fix their problem. Leave them alone!

Do any of you think this lady doesn't know she's morbidly obese? There's no need to rub her nose in it unless it makes you feel better about yourself by degrading others. Stop already. She is trying to get healthier. That should be applauded and encouraged. No obese person should be made to feel less than anyone else. It doesn't matter how they became or why they are obese. What matters is that obese people have every opportunity to get active and fit that everyone else gets. For women, the active wear clothing is a big issue and I for one applaud this lady and Academy's active wear line for Bigger people. I

People need to get the sticks out of their backsides and get a grip. If plus sized people could lose weight instantly it would already happen. This is to show plus sized people that there is active wear for them. This person is exercising and working towards getting healthy. She isn't there yet but it does take time.

So from these reply's, fat people should stay out of the public eye and hide in there houses and get fatter out of shame. This has gone on for too long. It's time for all of us to except the fact that everyone's body is not the same. We should encourage (fat) people to get out and move. Not shame them into hiding. This is why fat people get fatter and start hiding from others. No one wants to go to a gym and watch skinny people work out. while felling everyone is staring at you. Encouragement to get out and move is the only cure and all you haters will not allow this. Shame on you! Mind your own business and let these people have the chance of a life time. Your comments make me sick. These people are still people and have feelings. They will never get better if people like you keep smacking them down.

It's hard to find clothes for over size women. My husband loves me even though I am overweight. So people stop staring and start helping.

By encouraging people to be active while being obese or plus size will decrease the actual weight of these people. Being shamed results into eating to cope. By shaming fat people you are actually making the situation worse. If the shamers could empathize things may be different.

I am glad they are making clothing for all sized women. I used to weigh 40 pounds more myself. I am working on my last 10. Going from unfit/unhealthy/pre-diabetic to fit and fabulous is very hard work. I have watched very heavy people at my YMCA just starting their journey. That business is hard and takes real courage. I give anyone who wants to try to be healthier all the credit in the world. Everyone fights a hard battle, we need to be extending grace to one another, not hate.

I love the fact that shes being encouraged for doing what she loves and standing up for herself and everything but it also kinda sends a wrong message. She is not just plus size .That much weight is unhealthy.Even when she is trying to send a message that everyone should work on their weights and become healthy that message doesn't really come across clear. It just sounds like 'don't care what others think of you and its okay to be any size' to which I agree too as long as it is healthy. But this encouragement can lead to a very unhealthy culture of people thinking its okay to be obese and that its only about the appearance. But that is where it all goes wrong. Its not just about the appearance. Its about health too.Is it not known that obesity is the number one cause for heart attacks?People who are obese should never be ashamed of their body. But they should realise that its unhealthy to be obese and should take incentive to become healthier. This also applies to those who are skinny

Some people are so ignorant! I can see from her body shape she is suffering from a disease called Lipedema which affects approximately eleven percent of all women and is rarely correctly diagnosed. Why is this? Because if you are a woman and large, it is obviously your fault for eating so much. There is such ignorance and fat shaming fir no reason, it really is the last bastion of being allowed to insult people and not being reprimanded for it. Well all you uneducated people there are several Rare Adipose Disorders which can cause massive weight gain and no amount of dieting can change it. So, instead of criticising, just encourage people to do what they can to help their health instead of being so ignorant. I won’t even talk to you about the pain and operations you have to go through.......

I applaud this. too many people in mho feel like fat shaming is the last safe, accepted type of bullying, and sadly its mostly adults that do it. I can guarantee you, no one chooses to be obese or fat. Your negative, derogatory comments shamers, don't motivate us to go out and lose tons of weight....don't you think we'd do that if we could? NO, your negative, derogatory comments amount to little more than public shunning, making us want to isolate ourselves, when in truth many obese or fat people are already isolated because they don't want to be in your line of sight...our self esteem is already in the tank, thanks to comments like these. Listen.....its not okay to shame GLBTQ people for their sexuality...its not okay to shame people with mentai illness...its not okay to shame people for skin color, religion....its about time people realize its NOT OKAY to shame fat or obese people either...

The worst part is, people are judging her for being heavy. Yes it a health risk. I get that but who are you to say anything about anyone. I myself am a bigger girl not like her but bigger. and i give her credit. She trying, And it people that judge her that makes US heavy people not want to do anything about it. Because we are always being judged. Maybe you need to stop judging everyone and help them. Just go for a walk with them drive by and give them a thumbs up not laugh at them. I hate to say this but over eating is a illness, just like over drinking you cant always stop so instead of making fun of them. Give them a hand.....

She is a big girl & her imperfection of size is out there for all to see but she is a person with feelings just like anyone else. It's her body, no one else's & if you don't like it keep moving on & shut your mouth. Are you people who fat shame perfect ? I got that answer for you, NO you are not and here's your Achilles heel your judgmental mind is Ugly. Why do people feel it is their right to spew nasty comments about anyone, not only big people but anyone. This woman is a person with struggles, if you don't have the same struggle count yourself as blessed & lift her up with positivity. For goodness sake she knows she's a big girl and is wanting to do something about it and your going to comment on how she isn't like you so she shouldn't have the same choice in clothing. Those who have nominated themselves as judge, jury and executioner of someone who you don't feel is "worthy" need to work on yourself because you have flaws, yours just may not be outward for all the world to see.

Good for you, Alex K. I commend you for your efforts, just like I commend the efforts of Ms. O'brien the plus size model featured in this article. Anyone who's ever struggled with obesity and loses weight or starts an exercise program should be encouraged not ridiculed. A litte kindness goes along way. Shaming can send someone back into the depths of dispair. Try being an ally instead of an adversary. There's enough of those around already. Try a little tenderness.

It's called working out at home. Any fat f**k with a staircase that has at least one step can do it. Hell, do a couple of sets of arm curls while you're downing that 2L body of Diabeetus. All that is required to workout in a public gym is a pair of shorts, and a shirt. These requirements do not apply to working out at home, where you can exercise in the nude if you feel so inclined.

To criticize this woman for trying is disgusting. I would love to see the most perfect woman because she don't exist. Even a woman that is considered perfect to everyone's standards will tell you a million things wrong with her. People can have an opinion and keep it to themselves even though that seems so hard to do these days. I hope every woman can find clothes, even exercise clothes that she is comfortable in even if she wants to wear them sitting on the couch because to hell with every other person's opinion.

Your too busy being preachy you conveniently ignore that she is actually trying to be healthy in every picture in that article. The article was about how an a*****e, like you, felt he had to insult her and tell her she was a bad health example while she was doing something to improve her own health. I refuse to sit back and let the world pass by to hide in fear at disgust of strangers. I go to the beach, I walk, and I stand as tall as my short body will let me. I think it's great that plus size women have a place where they can get different types of clothing. It appears in the photo that she is active and is working on her weight. Like someone else noted "you don't know why someone is the size they are" it could be a health problem. We have a false image in the american mind of what "healthy" is. I've been 300 lbs for most of my life, my doctor and friends always point out that (in their minds) I'm "morbidly obese", yet I'm heading for 55 yrs old. My father (who had the same body shape/mass his whole life) is heading to 91. So my point is we are NOT all cut out of the same genetic cloth. Many "healthy" people, fall over dead early in life. Many "Obese" people live longer due to genetics. I'm not unhappy with my size and I certainly am not going to add stress to my life because I don't meet some other persons definition of what "healthy" is. Congrats to Academy for recognizing size differences and offering apparel to fit us. Hope they do this for men as well as women.

So many critical comments. First, one can assume if you are wearing a 2x or larger...You already know you are by medical terms morbibly obese... Alex K says "I accept her if she's trying to get healthier." WHO the eff are you to accept or not accept anyone? Do you pay her bills? Do you live with her, love her, or even know her? News flash..she doesn't NEED your acceptance. As a person who claims to be "fat as f**k myself" maybe you should keep your judgments to yourself. All I see is that you found a way to make YOURSELF feel better about being overweight..at the expense of someone else. Many of you fail to even know that sometimes being overweight is not a choice someone makes. There are MANY diseases that cause weight gain because of hormones in the body malfunctioning. Then there are many lifesaving meds that also cause extreme weight gain... Any of you ever been on Prednisone for any length of time? Taken a pill for mental illness? Had an underactive thyroid?

The reason I don't exercise is because I cannot find the right size for my body. It's tough to do it when you cannot find the right attire. Hence, my sports activity is quite stagnant, because I wouldn't feel confident going out exercising in a non-fitting clothes. I hope stores would make bigger sizes because we 'unhealthy, big people' needs to exercise the most but the absence of the 'bigger clothing size' is slowing our progress. It's like people telling the homeless to get a job but when the homeless do want to get a job, they are not accepted because they are homeless. It's kinda the same thing!

Encouraging obese people to work out with appropriate clothing so they can get healthier? And she's facing massive criticism for helping this brand to encourage people like her to work out?

I hope she doesn’t read these comments. They are so mean-spirited and hurtful for someone who is in her position. She has a long way to go and wishing her the best would be a lot more helpful than the name calling and judgement by people who have no idea who she is or what happened in her life that caused her to do such harm to herself. .

While I applaud the company, there is money to be made. Morbidly obese (I am) is a medical diagnosis. Just like Alcoholism, Addiction, Lung Cancer, Hypertension etc. No one wants it but its a fact. Being ashamed or having other tell you, you should be ashamed or wishing you well on becoming 'healthy is bollocks.

The very first day I left my yard, three different groups of people stopped, stared, and made awful comments about me. I gave the bike to a friend of ours.

Many of us "disgusting fatties" are not overweight by choice. I am older and have fibromyalgia, and metabolic disorders as well. I used to hide because of the taunting I received, but have accepted myself and am more comfortable in my skin than I was at size 0. I also eat moderately and exercise.

By encouraging people to be active while being obese or plus size will decrease the actual weight of these people. Being shamed results into eating to cope. By shaming fat people you are actually making the situation worse. If the shamers could empathize things may be different.

Going from unfit/unhealthy/pre-diabetic to fit and fabulous is very hard work. I have watched very heavy people at my YMCA just starting their journey. That business is hard and takes real courage.

I am 36 years old, I have delivered four babies, one who was deceased before birth. I weigh 117 pounds and I am not comfortable with myself. My stomach sags and I have more fat than muscle anywhere.

Good for Her! In a world where Acceptance of Creed, Colour, Gender and Sexual Equality is being encouraged, why is overweight people the always the target. I say to hell with it.. It doesn't matter.. it's her life and she has a right to do as she pleases. If you knew how little people thought of you, then you wouldn't care what they thought of you... I was given this advice by an old lady once. Live your life without Shame, live it cause it is yours, and NO ONE has a right to judge nor to criticise. No one is perfect. some may be thinner but each person has a human side that sucks. So.. Can we Just Accept the lady as a Model and move the hell along???

I may not be overweight, but I have a friend who is right about her size. NO, she doesn't eat allot and YES she does excercise. She just a health issue that causes her to gain weight. One that no amount of medication can cure. Not everyone who is big, chooses to be big., and I think that woman in those photos is beautiful.

@Academy couldn't of said it better. As one commented, not everyone had a choice of becoming fat; for some is a health issue. It's a shame that so many uneducated stupid people don't understand that :(

I have struggled with my weight since I was a child, tormented in elementary school, and high school, and from time to time in my adult life. Being plus sized doesn't mean we don't want to be thin. I think we beat ourselves up enough and I wish that ppl would understand that we don't need negative comments.

Congratulations! You self righteous people noticed she is fat. Did you notice she is arguing for the right of people of all sizes to exercise without being insulted? Tell me. What does exercise do? Your too busy being preachy you conveniently ignore that she is actually trying to be healthy in every picture in that article. The article was about how an a*****e, like you, felt he had to insult her and tell her she was a bad health example while she was doing something to improve her own health. Well that's a wonderful way to encourage more overweight people to exercise isn't it. You people have to be the dumbest on the planet.

I am fat. No getting around. I am 5'0" but my body shape is basically the same as above. I am not here to decorate anyone's world. I refuse to sit back and let the world pass by to hide in fear at disgust of strangers. I go to the beach, I walk, and I stand as tall as my short body will let me. I have people think I am gorgeous and outrageously attractive because I love life and refuse to live in fear. Thank you to every designer who designs good clothes for all sizes and thanks to the models who show us that we do not have to afraid to show ourselves.

Afraid? No, you shouldn't be. Ashamed? Yes. That is the appropriate response when you look like a garbage back stuffed with poorly-set gelatin.

I think it's great that plus size women have a place where they can get different types of clothing. It appears in the photo that she is active and is working on her weight. Like someone else noted "you don't know why someone is the size they are" it could be a health problem. Don't judge until you have stepped into their shoes or know the facts of why they are the way they are. Besides only god has the right to judge...

I would have thought the bored panda community would be more positive towards her but guess I was wrong! Woah! Well I m happy you guys are being negative about it because sometimes you really just can't hide the truth and be all nice about it! I really hope she is doing something about her weight and not just posing for a picture.

Can we stop judging people by their appearance? Let other people live their life and stop saying that she is promoting obesity. There is a difference between body positivity and promoting obesity.

Most of the human and animal population says that slim is attractive. Let me know how often you see the leader of a pride of lions have sex with an obese lioness.

Stop the insolent c**p~ people are all shapes and sizes, stop body shaming and think if everyone is not a 5’4 size 2 3% body fat size, they are unhealthy, overweight and obese...Plz you don’t body shame to force someone to become in your eyes”healthy!” I look at Instagram and the latest look is a 19 inch waist, and a over excercise butt or chemically enhanced...that doesn’t look healthy nor balanced either~ be happy with your self, if you feel you need to lose weight do it, but don’t body shame people because you feel the need to say something because in your mind they are unhealthy~ you don’t know why people gain weight~ geez go do acts of kindness, practice compassion something positive!

She looks great in her fitness clothes. When I see larger ladies at the gym I’d love to say β€œit’s great to see you here! You’re doing awesome! Keep it up!” But I’d hate for them to think I’m patronising them. I am 48 years old, 5’2” and 53 kilos and have always eaten what I wanted and exercised when I felt like it. My genetics have been kind to me. I feel sorry for people who look at food and put on weight.

It's no time fat, it's body types. That comment made me want to punch whoever wrote it!!! You can't just shame someone for something they can't control. Obviously, from that comment, it is unacceptable for wemon who do not look appealing to @james_semaj101 should be ashamed of how they look, and not do anything to keep themselves healthy and fit. And they should stop trying to look good. James, if I ever meet you, I shall slap your stereotypical face until you are ashamed of how "fat" it is from swelling.

there are people who eat and eat but don't gain weight the same can be said about people who watch what they eat and dont lose a lb. i know people who are more active than I who are morbidly obese. no one is encouraging people to gain weight. however all are encouraged to live life to fullest you will be happier and healthier. keep in mind people who react negatively are not the kind of people anyone would want to be associated with anyway. it's great that they step out of the shadows so we know who to avoid.

I’m broken physically and unwell due to my own genetics. I am judged constantly due to these things and my issues having caused obesity in me has made those judgments that much worse. I’m still fun when I’m able to be though. Screw what people think though. I’m still cute as hell even at my worst not to mention the life of the party when I’m well enough to play. 😜✌️✊
