Sony finally revealed the PlayStation 5. It was the first time people saw what the video game console -- which is scheduled for late 2020 -- looks like. The design of the PS5 hardware is somewhat outlandish, and there's a whole family of accessories to match it.
Sony's PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan said it's "bold, daring, and future-facing." But the Internet thinks PS5 reminds an alien Wi-Fi router. Or a medieval helmet. Immediately after the console was unveiled, people flooded social media with memes making fun of it, and they're absolutely savage.

Jokes aside, the PlayStation 5 stands vertically just like its main competitor, the Xbox Series X, is primarily designed to be. PS5 will come in two versions: one with a 4K Blu-ray drive and a pure Digital Edition.
The variant without the optical drive looks substantially slimmer thanks to the removal of the drive, and some speculate that should make it cheaper, too. But Sony hasn’t told the world about its new product's pricing just yet. What we do know is the console should hit shelves in the holiday season.
Sony announced the PS5 specs in March and said the PS5 is powered by an eight-core AMD Zen 2 CPU and a custom AMD RDNA 2-based GPU. The custom AMD chips provide 10.28 teraflops of power using variable frequencies on both the CPU and GPU.
The company also introduced a proprietary SSD solution to boost load times for games. The SSD will provide 825GB of storage and 5.5GB/s of performance. The PS5 will also support an "overwhelming majority" of the more than 4,000 PlayStation 4 titles that exist today. “We’re expecting backward compatible titles will run at a boosted frequency on PS5 so that they can benefit from higher or more stable frame rates and potentially higher resolutions,” Sony said.
I do think Sony did better on the creativity front... maybe Microsoft should have opted to go more in this direction? [Apparently several PC manufacturers have done!] Borg-Cube-...deffbd.jpg
I like it, too! But like hell is it gonna keep me from saving the memes XD
Load More Replies...It definitely shows some creative flair (especially when compared to the Xbox One X)... for now I will stick with my PS4- I was 'late to the game', as they say.
Load More Replies...I'm surprised there is no turret from aperture science center... Anyone?
I am not a fan of standing consoles. Too easy target to tip over for clumsy people...
It has a stand so you can have it horizontal. Although you won't be able to stack anything on top of it
Load More Replies...I'm glad the PS5 and XBwhatever look totally different. The PS4 and XBone are nearly identical, at least from a distance. Both designs have their ups and downs, IMO. I will say the new Xbox being literally just a black box means it'll age better and always disappear into your decor. The PS5 looks cool now...But I foresee it won't age well. Much like a lot of "futuristic" looking tech from the 90's and early 00's. I mostly game on a PC, and I stayed out of the current gen of consoles. I might get a PS5 (in a few years) if the rumors of 100% PS4 compatibility are true.
