We all have our eating quirks, and a common one is a belief that food should stay separate on the plate. Mixing peas and mashed potatoes or rice with beans are common food combinations but not to these picky eaters. Enter the company ‘Food Cubby,’ dedicated to ‘keeping food in its place,’ with innovative BPA- free, silicone dividers that fit on any plate so that your grub will never fraternize again – well until it goes in your stomach.

Sold on Amazon in packs of two, the Food Cubby offers a choice of orange or green and includes two different sizes to assure that it fits on any of your dishes. The site says it not only works as a divider but also “as an ‘edge’ to push food onto a utensil, without fingers. ”

So often getting kids to eat is a battle that parents go through. They have to come up with creative methods to make food seem more appetizing, but the sleek, smooth, plates and clever suction plate design is guaranteed to be kid-friendly, maybe because the original Food Cubby was invented by one. However, the company notes that this is perfect for all ages, “Good for special needs, elderly, vision impaired, and occupational therapy needs at mealtime.”

Food Cubby can even help make sure you are eating healthier. This mealtime helper can hold 1/2 cup of food within its walls which can help with portion control and nutrition. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends your plate include lots of fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains, with quarter portions of each.

For some people, this invention is more than a cool new utensil but a necessity. Brumotactillophobia is a phobia that can lead to picky eating and can also be a mild form of OCD. The condition normally causes people to eat their food in a particular order, and in turn prefer their food to be kept separate.

The Food Cubby has already received overwhelmingly good reviews

Oh come on, this is a) just plain advertising, b) unnecessary plastic stuff (get a bowl or second plate for pete's sake) and c) a strange standard of keeping everything clean and presentable. People who need this product probably also have problems touching raw meat or - god forbid - cleaning a fish.

I hate when my foods are touching (i doubt this would help because it then the two foods are touching the same thing. I need a space between all foods) but i fish regularly, gut and clean the fish.) I have also killed a few chickens (in a humane way) in Italy when visiting my relatives. I have no problem doing dirty work. It just annoys me when my foods are touching.

To be honest - dont think I would like my fruit salad getting mixed up with the pasta and the peas. Would never have thought of serving them on the same plate though. Dont really understand the "food touching" issues. Dont like things all mushed together ie my curry and rice in seperate piles please - as I like the individual tastes. If you are going to put them in your stomach to mix together??. How does someone cope with a dish such as lasagne, where the pasta, meat and sauce are combined?

Honestly don't agree with this mostly for the same reasons that Rena posted, but it could prove useful for children who have certain disorders such as aspergers. Being that it's made from a synthetic material though, you know this will create tons of waste when the fad dies out, and parents no longer want it. Yet another source of plastic to add to the growing heap of waste that humans create.

Once you're a grown up you can have all the weird food quirks you want. But when you're a child (in my house at least) you eat what you are given or you go hungry. I don't give a s**t that the corn is touching the mashed potatoes. Picky eaters are created because weak a*s parents allow it.

We could let people have their little quirks since it really doesn't affect others. I personally like to mix my food together. Example when eating Mexican food at a restaurant it gets mixed into what looks like a gross concoction on the plate, but agree with the people that peas and fruit cocktail shouldn't mix. Also, as stated by others, these are small, and take less time, soap, and water to clean than adding in more dishes to the meal.

Was I the weird kid? I always mixed my food together. It seemed like an efficient way of piling it into my face. 😂

What's wrong with Pyrex custard cups? They serve the same purpose, and are more versatile.

People are starving around the world and we're looking at a thinly-concealed advertisement for plastic cr@p to keep children from having meltdowns over their food touching? This is the way the world ends.

I don't like that my food touches because I like that textures and flavors are separate. But you know what, when it happens, almost all the time, I get over it. We don't need "solutions" for every small mildly annoying thing.

It is a phobia and a stupid one at that. I hate fussy eaters.

If a kid has a thing that "their food cant touch each other" - you wonder where it came from. they need to be educated out of this mindset ASAP. A bit unbelievable to me as a kid who grew up in the 60's and 70's

Well I personally think it's a bit ridiculous unless to keep sauces from touching things, but 🤷

Why would you keep a sauce from touching your food - that's its whole purpose.

I can see using these to keep saucy things from mixing together. Like you don’t want your macaroni and cheese to flow into your baked beans. I can see the use.

Why would you eat macaroni and cheese AND baked beans in the same meal??
