Entitled Plane Passenger Inspires A Funny Thread About Middle Seat Armrest Etiquette

Most people love traveling by plane. The packing, the early airport journeys and finally those breathtaking window views – it’s all quite exciting. Of course, there are some who fear experiencing the fate of Chuck Nolan from the 2000 survival drama Cast Away, though usually, things go very smoothly.

However – not everybody is a fan of planes, and maybe even humans in general. Some individuals are just so full of audacity it truly makes you question your whole existence. It seems like enduring and taming your negativity isn’t so hard when having to share a giant flying machine for a few hours – though Rachel Handler, the author of this humorous thread, ended up sitting right next to a very entitled traveler:

The woman took it to Twitter to hilariously share her rather amusing encounter with a fellow passenger, who decided to voice her concern regarding the plane’s armrest etiquette. The thread managed to receive over 81K likes and nearly 4.2K retweets, probably leaving the online folks laughing for days.

Traveling is great, unless you have to endure sitting next to an ignorant passenger for several hours

The world is full of surprising individuals, and you never know who you’ll end up meeting on your way. Some might pleasantly surprise you with their overwhelming kindness – others will find any possible way to irritate you, even if they’re obviously wrong. Besides, some folks are weirdly oblivious to everything around them and often believe that they’re forever entitled to everything there is to our planet. However, the best way to handle individuals like this is to make an entertaining joke out of the situation – just like the author did.

A woman shared her entertaining experience with a passenger who was overly concerned about the middle seat armrests

The woman began her humorous thread by announcing that her co-passenger loudly, and seems like deliberately turned straight to Apple’s Siri, requesting the system reveal the rules of aircraft middle seat etiquette. She then made sure to point out the Google searches to the author, revealing that she was “legally” entitled to both of the armrests, basically forbidding the woman from putting her arms down.

Naturally, the woman was puzzled by such provocative behavior, as it all could’ve been settled without having to bother the poor bot. Moreover, the passenger revealed that she has actually worked for Boeing for a whopping 20 years, and that she was absolutely and utterly sure that she was legally right. Later on, the woman hilariously revealed that her very law-abiding seat neighbor managed to recline her seat prior to takeoff – which, in fact, wasn’t that legal.

A few minutes later, the woman was back with yet another update weighing in on the fact that she is, of course, aware of the “armrest etiquette” and normally follows the rules, unless the person in question gets virtual assistants involved. Also, as it might’ve been expected, the lady that loves keeping things legal didn’t stop there, and kept bothering the OP by shoving her arm every few minutes. Finally, when the author had had enough, she politely asked her co-passenger to stop touching her as she was not trying to secretly steal her precious armrest, to which the woman replied by saying that she didn’t want to argue about silly things.

In addition, the author revealed a spicy detail regarding her seat neighbor’s interesting behavior, and mentioned that when the crew went around greeting valued members, someone approached the woman and they had a little chit-chat. But as soon as the conversation was over, the woman turned to her daughter and announced that she absolutely despises knowing people on planes. The OP then hilariously added that she’s positively sure that our beloved armrest lady is capable of homicide, and that she had the audacity to start snoring (which is also illegal, of course).

The next few updates were full of the woman’s outstanding jokes, where she even incorporated a little FAQ revealing that she didn’t steal any armrests away, and that during this extremely uneasy situation she managed to age by 17 whole years. In addition, she also mentioned that instead of sleeping, she was watching a sponsored feature, followed by this charming and informational video that disclosed how stress levels impact people’s immunity systems.

In the end, presumably after a number of comments from fellow followers stating how her co-passenger was right, the OP revealed that there are no federal laws concerning middle seat armrests, as well as sharing that once the plane landed, the chaotic passenger directed her delightful energy towards a rental car company, which even managed to trigger her own daughter to the point where she indirectly called her mother a psychopath.

Fellow Twitter users shared their opinions regarding this comical and somewhat annoying situation

If anyone is unfortunate enough to get a middle seat, the least we can do is give them the armrests, but if they're a d**k about it, then all bets are off.

This is why I hate flying. People think I'm afraid. I am not. I guess I am a little afraid of serving time when I finally lose it.
