I began baking for my family when I was a young teenager and have been baking much of my life."

Karin told us that she's inspired by nature, inanimate objects and traditional graphic and geometric designs. Even though we only see the outside of Karin's pies, she strongly believes they should taste great and look good after baking, not just before.

I would initially be too afraid to eat it. But then I'd get over it.

It takes between 2 to 6 hours to artistically decorate a pie. First, Karin makes the pie shell and fills it. Then, she either puts a flat top crust on for more decorating or adds decorations to the fruit filling itself. Sometimes, she uses colorful fruit as decoration. If she wants to color the dough, she uses natural colors like berry powders, turmeric, red beet, or spinach powder. "For ornaments, I often use various cookie cutters or cut free-hand using a very fine knife blade such as a scalpel or hobby knife. I often combine cutting techniques to create unique designs. I don't really need any additional special tools for this work."

In her twenties, Karin often visited Paris during the summer, where she was captivated by the beautiful pastries in the local bakeries. Although she didn't pursue baking professionally, she developed a passion for textiles, eventually creating her own fabric art. Despite her focus on textiles, she still enjoyed baking as a hobby, often trying out new doughs and batters.

Blueberry pie looks so delish. This pattern of the dough looks almost doable, too.

Amazing. The amount of time it took to make this apple 'tart' look this way, I can't begin to imagine.

Stunning. As a home-baker I can appreciate the talent and time it took to create the designs for all these crusts.

Looked prettier unbaked. Not sure what fruit or veggies are in this one. Anyone?
