My name is Alicja Brodowicz and I am a photographer from Poland. I have spent the last couple of months working on a project called "Visual Exercises" which is a series of diptychs where I combine parts of the human body with elements of nature in order to emphasize our unique relationship with the natural environment as well as the beauty of the human body.
The writer Alice Walker said: “In nature, nothing is perfect and everything is perfect. Trees can be contorted, bent in weird ways, and they're still beautiful.”
Human body and nature. Microcosm and macrocosm. The human form: irregular, wrinkled, saggy. Imperfect. Nature: wild, mysterious; sometimes incomprehensible, but always extraordinary. Abnormalities and perfection.
By re-tracing the unity of formal elements, compositions, lines and shapes in the form of diptychs, the inter-relation of the human body and nature becomes apparent.
This analogy leads to the realization of the perfection of both.
Estrangement from nature has led to the abuse of the environment and the body. Only through a reconnection with nature can we rediscover self-love and make the imperfect body perfect once more.

I had two large babies, who are now 17 & 19 years old, my first was born when I was 18 years of age. My stomach will never have abs. My stomach has tiger stripes & the consistency of uncooked dough! This resonates with me!
A perfect photo shopped body has no flaws, but it also has no interest, no texture, no interplay of light & darkness in the folds & creases, no life. Life leaves traces, just as we leave traces in our wake.
The use if light is very effective in highlighting the textures. I can sense how they would feel.
I struggle with my ripples, I have hated them with a passion, I have ignored them but they went nowhere! I still struggle with my considerable, baby belly stretchmarks, even though I have now had them longer than I was without them. I like thinking about them in this way. They are simply the visible ripples of two people who have massively impacted my life! Thank you!
This is probably going to be downvoted into oblivion seeing how much you guys seem to dislike this post, but I thought it was actually pretty neat. I thought the parallels were creative and the photographs visually pleasing. Plus I love modern b&w photography so that was cool
It shows parts of the body that a lot of people are uncomfortable with, or that are not seen! Also it is more about the light & the textures & the feelings evoked for me than the images as a whole. A lot of the posts on here are flicked through or funny or cute or at times odd, this is not what everybody is looking for. I appreciated it. It made me think. You appreciated it. That's at least two of us. Art is subjective, it does not need or want to be universally loved.
Load More Replies...I don't really know what to think. I mean I wouldn't call it beautiful, ugly or plain
It is really beautiful, I just love the whay you capture the beauty of life.. The nature life, the amazing grace that we always want to deny, need to deny to be part of an excludent society that needs to follow a terrible way to be part of... I love the perfection of the imperfection!
