I Fulfilled My Dream And Traveled To Japan To Capture The Surreal City Of Tokyo At Night (23 Pics)
My name is Davide Sasso, I’m a photographer and I love Japan. I live in Italy and my dream has always been to go to Japan. I've loved this country since I was a child, I have always found it a rich culture. It has an interesting history, mythology and art. I love of course their cinema, manga and anime!
Finally, at the end of 2018, I managed to fulfill my dream.
I’ve been in Tokyo city for about two weeks, from the beginning of December until the middle of the month. It was one of the best experiences of my life. Obviously, I brought my trusty camera with me, with which I took a lot of interesting photos in the main Tokyo neighborhoods.
I will definitely go to see Kyoto and Osaka, places that unfortunately I have not seen during this first trip. I can not wait to go back to visit this wonderful country again!
If you have the opportunity to go to Japan I can only recommend this trip, it’s something that changes your life.

Rentre à la maison, Tour Eiffel, t'es bourrée :) Serioulsy, though, beautiful colors.
This city at night comes to life and is the perfect time to take some stunning pictures, I love especially when it rains because all the neon lights reflect like never before. I am a big fan of cinema, films like "Enter The Void", "Blade Runner", "Akira", and "Ghost In The Shell". They all have been a great source of inspiration for me. I grew up with these movies and I'm very fond of them, I advise everyone to see them!
I published some of these street photography shots online and I must say that the photos are being greatly appreciated and I’m very happy about this. I would have liked to stay in this beautiful city and explore Japanese culture to take more pictures, but I’m sure I’ll be back one day!
My journey into photography started around 2015, being a big fan of cinema I actually bought a camera to shoot videos. Eventually, I ended up using the camera just to take pictures, but my dream of making movies is still alive! Before photography, I tried my hand at drawing, as a great manga fan I would have liked that path very much too, but I don't think I am inclined to it.
I love photography because it allows you to immortalize a moment in time forever, but also the possibility of creating "new worlds" through new points of view and modern post-production techniques.
If you like these photographs, check out the other pictures I took in Italy and Japan by clicking here, here, here, here. and here.
I have 3 ongoing projects currently. The first is the second part of my "Anime City Pop" photographic series, in which I try to give my shots an anime aesthetic. The second is something new and is always a photographic project. The third is a short film!
All three projects are set in Japan so I need the country to fully reopen to be able to go. Japan is currently not fully reopened, but it is slowly easing the measures taken for Covid so I think it won't be long before I can finally get back there!
I remember all those clear umbrellas in Japan. It was quite a revelation that you could see where you were going and not get wet!
This big red sign here is Katakana for, if I'm not mistaken, "ほてるおおろら" in Hiragana and "hoteruoorora" in Romaji if anyone wanted to know :D I'm pretty sure the translation for it is "Hotel Aurora" but I miiiight be wrong so if someone knows for certain please let me know, lol!
So I went to school for graphic design. I've done some automotive photography, and I am a huge car guy (specifically in the Japanese market.) I've always wanted to make some original designs of cars parked in the streets of Japan at night with all the beautiful lighting, and so I did some digging and came across these photos. I was blown away! Your work is hands down some of my personal favorite photography ever, if not my favorite! I even want them hanging up in my apartment because they get to me that much! With so much photography in the world you wonder as a photographer how you compare to others. I just wanted you to know you are someone's favorite, and It's going to take a lot for someone to top you for me personally. :) P.S. I don't plan on stealing any of your work. I'd just pull inspiration from them. lol. Don't wanna be one of those people.
I love the balance of your photos. The full moon is perfect, which I'm guessing took some patience.
