I did this for my nephews one year for Christmas. Drum,xylophone, trumpet, guitar, like 8 instruments. They loved it, sis not so much. My kids came along 10 years later and she didn't remember.

Hahaha. My 1/2 sister (and I make that distinction because she was born when my oldest child was 4. We did not grow up together & have absolutely NOTHING but some DNA in common). My husband & I ended up living with her, her husband & their feral monkey of a daughter in my Dad (& stepmom's) house for a year. For every gift giving occasion I tried to find THE most obnoxious/loud toy I could find just to f*ck with her (they were both SUCH lousy/entitled parents). The room we were staying in used to be my Dad's study - and when he remodeled, he had the walls basically soundproofed. Yeah, go ahead and play that "Elsa" recorder, you little monster. (As an aside - she's 12 now and a really lovely person, but I give the most credit to my stepmother as she was the one doing all the heavy lifting).

Not as bad, but I sometimes think my sister and BIL can be a little snobby/judgy. I gifted my niece a ride on bouncer for Christmas (after asking to be sure parents felt kiddo was coordinated enough to use one safely). What I didn't tell them was that the ride on bouncer was the derpiest looking bug-eyed unicorn with hot pink accents. Of course my niece loves it, and it makes me smile every time I see that gaudy thing in their house.

Being an a*****e to some you just don't like is just being a stupid a*****e.

Probably not many people like her too...

I like to add a packet of crayons or indelible markers as well.

I'd do it the same way. The child is being influenced by the mother and if she continually gets away with it, he will pick up the behaviors too. It's not like he pushed him over or something. Be polite = get what you want. Be a d**k, get treated as such. Good lesson, really.
