They say revenge is best served cold, but it’s also best served by someone who knows us very well. And who knows us better than our beloved fur babies?
We love our pets unconditionally and work hard to give them the best lives possible, spoiling them with delicious treats, long walks and the most comfortable beds. But just like any child who’s been denied dessert or bitter ex-romantic partner, our pets are capable of plotting devious acts of revenge upon us. From destroying furniture to going potty where they know they shouldn’t, we’ve gathered some of the coldest examples of animal revenge down below, as well as an interview with Dr. Megan E. Maxwell, PhD, a Board Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist .
Be sure to upvote the photos you can’t help but laugh at and those that feature animals you find particularly brilliant, and allow this list to serve as a reminder that your precious pet is capable of being extremely petty. So the next time Spot begs for a treat or demands you let him outside after midnight, don’t be surprised if he retaliates when you say no. You’ve been warned…
Then if you’re interested in checking out another Bored Panda article featuring just how intelligent our beloved animals are, look no further than right here!

Man Kicks A Stray Dog, So The Dog Exacts Instant Revenge
Kicking animals is low. I don’t like dogs but that doesn’t mean I would kick them?!
To the dog who got kicked. I just want to say Very Very Good Dog! To the guy who kicked the dog, all I have to say is well, you f****d around and found out, didn’t you? Animals do have feelings, and they definitely aren’t stupid.
No, the person is a ‘poor creature’. The precious doggo isn’t.

Honestly, i climb on top of things and get stuck all the time. ( Not a cat, just short)

If you’re a pet owner, you likely know that our furry (or scaly, feathery, etc.) friends can be extremely smart. They learn how to communicate with us without using words, and we find ways to understand one another’s emotions. But this intelligence can come back to bite us when our pets realize that we don’t always give them what they want. Sure, accidents happen, and especially when pets are young, they have a lot to learn. But the hilarious photos on this list seem to be a bit more like calculated revenge than honest mistakes.
To gain more insight on our naught pets and whether or not their actions that we perceive as revenge are intentional, we reached out to Board Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist Dr. Megan E. Maxwell, PhD. While this article is all in good fun, we wanted to know if our pets are actually capable of plotting revenge against us (and if they are, should we be worried?).
He’s On A Diet. It’s Not Going Great
Kitty looks angry. On another note.... recycle please (if you're able) 😊
I can't speak for everyone but I will say that where I live, recycling bin refuse ends up at the same dump as regular trash. This isn't speculation on my part, I've known numerous people who work for the trash and recycling pickup here and they've all said the same thing. It ends up putting out more pollution for the extra truck to pick it up only for it to end up dumped in the same pile. It's obnoxious and I hate it. The US really needs to do better with our recycling.

If you put your cat cold turkey on a diet, there will be issues. You should take the time to talk to your cat, make him see the importance of the diet. Tell him what's going to happen and what's expected of him. This might not really work, but it gives you the opportunity to tell him ' I told you so! '
Messing with an angry black cat doesn't bode well. Take care of your life.

theres nothing wrong with leaving a dog in a car if the dogs needs have been met and the weather permits it
Load More Replies...Well this comment section went down the toilet fast! Btw, I leave my dogs in the car when the weather is suitable. They love it, going for a ride and seeing different things. One dog pood in the very back of the station wagon when she was a pup. No big deal. But, I took my dogs camping for 5000 miles, too, so...who knows.
Leave one in the part in between the front seats so that they can’t get it out
People are assuming it's a hot summer day. But it's clearly overcast and could be a reasonable to cool temp. I bring my dog with me when the weather is temperate but never hot. If it's cold, he's wearing his coat to keep warm. And I only take him on short runs. Please don't over generalize.
Why can't people learn? How often are they told not to leave their dogs in cars?
Poor thing, I hope it was ok and it wasn't to hot or cold in the car.
I hope that poor puppy really stunk up the car and the owner of the car returned right away for the poor pup. NEVER NEVER LEAVE ANIMALS IN THE CAR!!!!!! STUPID HUMAN!!
Princess Pamela Knocked Over Two Plants… All Because I Didn’t Feed Her The Moment I Came Home From Work
Gotta love the expression on the cat's face. It be like "You DO understand what needs to change right?"
Lucky for all of us, Dr. Maxwell told Bored Panda that no, animals don’t consciously seek revenge. “To really carry out vengeful behavior, you need to be able to picture the future and find pleasure in the future misery or suffering of others,” she explained. “For our pets, this is much too complicated. Nonetheless, we see behavior from our pets all the time that LOOKS like revenge, but this is only because we humans put our own motivations onto pet behavior sometimes.” We shouldn’t be projecting our own emotions onto others, so let’s not do it on our pets either!
Dr. Maxwell also provided some possible explanations for why our animals might seem vengeful. “Most dogs and cats engage in destruction in the house either due to boredom and the natural enjoyment that comes from chewing things, or due to anxiety either from being home alone or from any changes that may have occurred in the pet's life that cause stress,” she noted.

As if the orange cat put the lid on... I dislike what people do to animals in the hope of a few likes!

This Is Whisper. Whisper Frequently Sneaks Outside, Then Gets Angry When We Don't Immediately Notice Her Absence, She Licks The Windows And Screams
My cat has kitty doors, but she loves doing just the same as Whisper. She waits to see me in bathroom, comes to the window and tries to make me open it. If I don't, she comes through the kitty door and scream at me when I leave. It's probably because she hates when I am alone in the bathroom. Any other room is annoying but acceptable, but bathroom, with its water and strange smells... It's dangerous to go unsupervised, i presume.

To try to prevent our pets from seeking revenge (or appearing like that’s what they’re after), Dr. Maxwell provided some advice. “We should teach our pets how to be home alone calmly, and be sure to provide plenty of appropriate things for our pets to destroy to meet their chewing needs.” She also recommended trying to get to the bottom of why they are displaying destructive behavior, because it’s not actually to seek revenge. “For example, be sure all of the pet's basic needs are met, including plenty of exercise, enrichment, basic training, and socialization,” Dr. Maxwell told Bored Panda.

Also, both bread and plastic are incredibly bad for cats. 🤦🏻♀️

I would not bathe a full grown cat. Because I want to live. Seriously, I just had a cat that had surgery and had to wear a cone collar for over a week. He couldn't clean his butt and the best I could do was use wipes, which were not very effective. But he made it clear the one time that I dragged him to the bathtub that it just wasn't going to happen!
If you desensitize your pets to wearing a shirt or onesie, it's an easier option for when they have stitches on their torso. They also make blow-up ones now (like a neck pillow), which are lighter weight and less stressful for most animals.

Why on earth would you give a cat a bath? That's not needed unless the cat is covered with dirt or poo..
Years ago my all-white cat earned herself a bath after she got up under a car and came out with a long grey streak of engine grease down her back. It was not fun for either of us, but it was necessary.

For all the folks who are pretty adamant cats shouldn't be bathed, I agree cats shouldn't *need* to be bathed, but please remember there are special circumstances. Depends on the cat. I had my previous cat checked by two different vets, including labwork. Other than his privates, he didn't really care about bathing. At all. He was kind of a Bubba-cat, a former tom, like a bachelor dude who lets his hygiene slide. Both vets suggested I bathe him as needed, which was 2-4 times a year, when he got so greasy he couldn't shed properly even after being brushed. I used unscented pet shampoo so he'd not smell super weird. Neither of us liked the process, but he was polite enough to not remove my body parts. With enough love and treats after, he never felt the need for revenge. My thoughts, bathe only under veterinary instruction.
Who gives a cat a bath? Unless they have some health issues and can't clean themselves?

Load More Replies...Thankfully, our dogs and cats aren’t as vengeful as humans often are, but they are intelligent enough to feel other emotions that might lead to them partaking in destructive behavior, including jealousy. Paul Morris, PhD, a psychologist and animal behavior expert at The University of Portsmouth in England found that dogs will consistently push in between themselves and their “rivals” to compete for attention. “All we can do is look at behavior and context,” Dr. Morris says. “Both the behavior and the contexts observed are consistent with current scientific definitions of jealousy. I suspect that a highly social species such as the dog has a very developed repertoire of social emotions.”

NEVER be cheap with the food for your pets! A good quality one (doesn't have to be the most expensive but good quality) is the foundation for a good health!
AND diet plays a huge role in behavior! Cats don't digest carbohydrates - they literally lack the biology to digest or use them - and carbs like grains, potatoes, or legumes can (and often do!) lead to hyperactive, destructive, or aggressive behavior (and not just in cats.)
Load More Replies...I haven't had to do this in a while because she's more comfortable, but I have 2 different bags of dry food, one she likes the other she's not too fond of. I put out a bowl of the one she doesn't like in between feedings to calm her down. She's been through some trauma and when I found her last year she was a couple days away from starving to death. For the first few months after she ate her food she'd cry and get anxious, I think she was scared about starving last year, I dunno. I think just seeing that there's food there and she's not going to starve calmed her.
My parents had a cat that was very food-oriented, for the same reason. She would gobble the food up as quickly as she could, so it wouldn't disappear on her.

My Cat Bites My Dad Whenever He's Paying Attention To My Mom And Not Him
Our cat follows me around when I am at home. My wife is at home all day, every day. If I go out to do work in the garden - cat; making the bed - cat; preparing/cooking food - cat; on this pc..... cat. If I go talk to my wife, the cat gets jealous and starts bumping me and talking to me. When I come home from work, she is patiently waiting for me. She ignores my wife most of the time.
Mine will politely slap people in the face with his paws when attention is needed. He's quite good in his communication skills.

Load More Replies...If you’re wondering why your dog might be acting a bit off, it can be useful to be able to spot the signs of jealousy in your fur baby. They might start displaying signs of aggression towards whomever they’re jealous of, display attention seeking behavior, start sulking or even withdraw from you. If you notice this behavior in your pet and it’s unusual, your animal might be feeling insecure. To combat these negative feelings, it can be helpful to maintain routines for your dog. “Think back to what your schedule and habits were like before the new pet or person was introduced, and, whenever possible, try to reestablish that pattern,” The Dog Daily writes.

I Wouldn’t Get Up At 6:00 Am To Feed Him So He Dragged This Bag Of Treats Into The Bathroom And Tore It Open. Merry Christmas
My cat did this. Except she kept meowing until we came to see what happened and showed us her achievement.
That’s why I have to put treats in a container with a screw on lid and hide them
If an animal is jealous, they might just need some extra love and affection to remind them how much you care. Give them an extra treat, take them to the park more often, and spend plenty of time playing with them. Just like humans, dogs need to be shown they are loved sometimes. It can also be useful to reinforce your dog’s basic training if their jealousy is turning into destructive patterns. “You must remain the leader, so gently show your dog who is boss by verbally scolding negative behavior as soon as it starts,” The Dog Daily says. “At the same time, reward positive behavior with sweet talk, head rubs, and treats, especially if your dog makes an effort to socialize with your new pack member.”

I used to care for a toddler who weighed 26 lbs., as did the neighbor's cat. The baby would lie on the cat to keep him from leaving. I warned her that she was asking for trouble. We visited the neighbor's home, and we were sitting on the couch when Shamrock got on her lap, preventing her from getting up. She started to cry, but stopped as soon as I said, " now you know how it feels." They became good friends.
It can also be important to empathize with our pets rather than assuming they’re trying to seek revenge against us. For example, separation anxiety can be a cause for some of the behavior featured on this list. “Factors which can precipitate a separation anxiety problem include a change in the family’s schedule which result in the dog being left alone more often, a move to a new house, the death or loss of another family pet, or a period at a boarding kennel,” MSPCA explains on their site. “Separation anxiety may manifest by excessive vocalizations or house-soiling, along with destructive behavior. These behaviors are not motivated by spite or revenge, but by anxiety, and punishment will make the problem worse!”

Fyi: And obligate carnivore means they HAVE TO HAVE meat, not that it's the only thing they should eat. Humans can live as vegetarians though we're designed to be omnivores. Cats are also omnivores but need taurine and other meat-specific nutrients to be healthy. They also need fiber in order to poo, just like us.

That is a beautiful cactus, but I think you should find it a new home, because it's potentially toxic to kitty. It's almost impossible to be sure your cat won't nibble a house plant, maybe when you're away, so it's safer to just not have cat-toxic plants at home.

The kennel is their own private space and very comfortable. It's absolutely never used as a punishment and its not uncommon for them to continue to nap in the crate, such is their degree of comfort.

Does everyone else feed their critters people food? I'm just curious, not being sarcastic. I *don't* feed mine people food except for the occasional tuna. I don't have problems with them when I eat, they don't bother me. FWIW, I have 2 cats, but I've never fed my pets people food for that reason. Just wondering...
Tuna is bad for cats. I blame the TV and movie industry for "teaching" people so many dangerous fallacies about animals (like dogs/bones & cats/milk). They don't bother you bc they've learned that you don't share, so there's no point asking. It's good to supplement their kibble as much as you can because that's the equivalent of junk/fast food. It's best to start by adding fresh foods chosen from the list of ingredients on the bag that they're eating from at the time. Making soup (minus garlic, onions, salt, spices... add these only to your bowl after ladling up) is a good way to start... mash & cool, mix into the kibble.

Friend Stayed Out Late Last Night. Her Dog Was Lonely
That's not just one night's worth of loneliness. That poor dog probably isn't getting all the attention and enrichment they need.
You'd be surprised what an animal can eat, and in a short amount if time. One of our fosters had really bad anxiety, so she had to be babygated in the laundry room if no one was home. The first day she was by herself, she ate a hole in the wall big enough for me to fit in. This isn't unusual, and I know a lot of people out there, who have dogs with separation anxiety, have had similar experiences. I've done FB surgeries and removed knives, whole toys, chunks of stuffed animals, what seemed to be the entire contents of someone's underpants drawer, a broken pie dish, wads of feminine hygiene products, big chunks of shoes, rocks/bricks, giant sticks, money, wallets, and so on. A dog can do this kind of damage in a matter of hours, but I can also confirm, this level of destruction is usually a sign of another issue.
Separation anxiety or lack of stimulation and exercise. We had an american eskimo years ago, if he didn't have his two long walks a day he was destructive, we always knew if my sister lied about walking him.
When we were young we went out of town for a week. Mom hired the girl across the street to keep an eye on the dog. She was told if there is a storm she has to sit with her. She did not. Came home to a tunnel from my bedroom into the bathroom
Trio Of Magpie Bullies Learning There Are Consequences To Being Jerks To Cats
The birds weren't being jerks or bullies, they were defending their family from attack. Poor birdies.
Not axiomatically true. Many times corvids are intelligent enough to harass and bully other animals, including cats, humans, and other birds. You have no idea whether or not the birds were defending a nest or eggs. They very well could have been doing nothing, and the cat is simply behaving naturally.
Load More Replies...I don’t know how people are describing birds that see a predator in their territory as jerks for trying to drive it off. Domestic house cats are an invasive species in most of the world, and do immense damage to local wildlife. I used to think it was cruel to keep cats inside, that it was “natural” for my well-fed childhood house cat to come home with a new dead animal every two or three days, and that it was also “natural” that cats just got sick, or eaten by coyotes, or run over by cars. Where I live now, no one in my immediate neighborhood lets their cats out. Their cats are safe and healthy inside, and the bird population around us is thriving.
This. Thank you for having some common sense and compassion for the birds and understanding that cats are problematic when allowed to roam free. Cats belong indoors!
Load More Replies...This is horrible.. one of the largest reasons for bird population decline in cities are roaming cats.

Load More Replies...Whilst I love these birds, who are very intelligent and have a cool flock dynamic where they live in families, hunt in pack, etc... They are infamously known for teasing cats relentlessy, all over the world. To be sure, this cat has now earned a spot on their absolute s**t-list, and they'll bully it intensly every time they see it from then on.
People keep using the word "teasing" but failing to see that it's a perfectly natural thing to want to chase a PREDATOR away from their home. Why is it the bird that's bad when it's the cat that's invading?
Load More Replies...I replied with this to someone’s post…but for those that miss it… Humans are the #1 invasive species on this earth. We have caused the extinction of hundreds, & are currently putting more than 1 million species at risk. So before we start blaming cats, we should look at ourselves. Our own apathy & greed are destroying this planet.
Just because we as a species do the most damage doesn't mean we should allow another, similarly invasive species do similar damage. Cats are domesticated and belong inside or in a barn. Feral and outdoor cats are issues, barn cats do a job and indoor cats are friends.
Load More Replies...My own experience, our (usually) docile kitty would hang out in our yard. Never ventured further, was loving to her humans and dog. For whatever reason, the birds began to attack her. She put up with it for about a week, finally snapped and killed one of the birds, whose companions completely left the kitty alone after that. Everyone, human or feline, has a breaking point. Even the sweet ones. And I agree, keep the cats indoors.
