Reddit users are sharing images of their newly adopted furry friends and they are so cute, we just can’t seem to stop smiling. From tiny newborn kitties to long-sitting shelter dogs, these little critters were saved from the hardship of living on the streets and are leading a full and happy life.

Since it’s that time of the year, we can’t help but think about the little puppies and kittens crawling out of the gift boxes. However, there’s a never-ending dialogue about pet adoption during the holidays. Various animal welfare organizations have policies against it since many think that cats and dogs that weren’t chosen by their new owners will not be seen as valuable.
Before you decide to adopt, there are plenty of factors to take in, both positive and negative. Needless to say, getting a pet as a gift is a dream come true for many. One of the benefits of taking in a pet during Christmas is that most of the family members have a few days off from school and work, so there’s extra time to get familiar and ease the transition of adoption. Also, there’s the fact that saving a pet will make more room for another neglected four-legged creature at the shelter.
Me And Sleepy Boi. He Wouldn't Come Near Me When I Adopted Him! Now Every Night He Sneaks Into My Blankie And Sleeps With Me
Im 7 months pregnant but my cat loves to sleep partially on my tummy and partially on my chest. I can't breathe as it is. I love her but she cant sleep in my room anymore.

I agree! I took in a cat from a very young couple (with a toddler) that could no longer keep him. They let the baby terrorize the poor thing. If he got fed up with the baby pulling his tail or carrying him by the neck he would hiss, which he got smacked for. He learned early on to hide and cower when people came near, including the family he was with. Now he sleeps on my lap and is so friendly and loving! They called him a bad cat for not letting the baby manhandled him. He just needed a proper environment and love.
Load More Replies...Wait. Is that the same cat? The one in the bed has their right arm and ear, and the one in the other picture doesn’t. Or is one of the pictures somehow reversed?
No, it's not the same cat. You're right about the arm and ear and the face shape is different.

Adopted A Toothless 14 Year Old. She Spent 4 Years In The Shelter Waiting For Me To Find Her. I’ve Named Her “Belle” For Her Nose
It does look like a.bell. Those kitties usually have great personalities
What’s more, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) highly encourages people to adopt a four-legged friend during the holidays. According to their survey of more than 200 individuals, there is no increased risk of abandonment of dogs and cats that were received as a gift.
When asked if obtaining a pet on holidays increased, decreased, or had no impact on the attachment to the pet, almost all participants said it either increased or had no impact. Plus, 86 percent of cats and dogs adopted during the holidays were still in the home.
The researchers wrote that “denying adopters who intend to give the animals as gifts may unnecessarily impede the overarching goal of increasing adoptions of pets from our nation’s shelter system.”

Some people dump old pets when they start to have expensive medical problems, sadly.

A new cat cafe near me has a 9 year old cat as one of their cats (which are available for adoption), and according to the information about him, he was put up for adoption because his owner died and the family was about to let him go to the streets. I really hope he can find a good home, and get lots of people at the cafe to pet him in the meantime.
Load More Replies...Exactly. How can people do that to their pet, I would never die.

Load More Replies...My wife wants another labrador like her beloved, joined-at-her-hip, Abigail (who sadly passed away a few years back). I told her when we're ready, I told her I want to get a senior doggo...even if it only lives a short while, the rest of its life will be spent being extremely spoiled and pampered...and loved.
Exactly what I've been thinking. But I'm already too old for dog walking. When my elderly dog leaves me, it'll be elderly cats from then on.
Load More Replies...Thank you. Just thank you. I've had several seniors. They're the best.
My niece just adopted an 11 year old cat who was dumped for "acting to elderly". Niece says she plays like a kitten. Hope original owners get the bargain basement priced nursing home when they are acting to elderly.
Maybe the owners passed away or lacked the ability to properly care for the animal in it's golden years.
Unfortunately, when reality sets in, some animals unavoidably get returned to the shelter. Holiday celebrations can be quite chaotic and our emotions often get heightened, so there are a few things to consider before making this step. First, make sure that the receiver of this gift really wants a pet and that they will be able to look after their basic needs and medical care.
Some people might be planning to travel during the holidays and if this is the case, it would be better to adopt after the festivities, during a less hectic time when everybody could turn their attention to the new family member.
Newly Adopted Big Boy Doesn’t Know What Personal Space Is
I adopted a 50lb senior a couple of years ago who's the same way; he wants to be in physical contact 24/7. We finally compromised where he gives me my space (mostly) throughout the day but at 7PM, he gets to lie in my lap for an hour and get petted. Milo-Lap-1...35136a.jpg
Shirt Warmer. He's Just Sooo Happy To Be Adopted Still!
There's not much in th world that is as beautiful as that.wats his name?
Previously, we spoke to Kelly DiCicco, Adoptions Promotions Manager at the ASPCA, who told us that adopting a pet should not be a spur-of-the-moment decision: “It should be expected that you’ll experience lifestyle changes over the course of the pet’s life, such as moving, having children or getting a new job, so it’s important to consider how you will care for your pet during those changes before you add that pet to your family; many shelters offer various forms of support to answer questions you might have before you adopt, or afterward.”

Looks like Cider is going to have the most loving Daddy, and they’re going to be spending a lot of time together. (Being that I’m a realist, I do hope arrangements have been made for Cider’s care, so there’s no return trip to the shelter in a few years. Then again, Daddy my pay outlive Cider, so…)
Recently Adopted Two Kittens-This Guy Has The Longest Ear Furnishings I've Ever Seen
I suspect this kitty will be a big one! I also suspect there is some Maine C**n in the kitty.
She added: “We always encourage adopters to keep an open mind and heart when visiting a shelter or rescue; as you may walk out with a pet you’d never considered before, like a senior animal or an animal who looks nothing like what you originally had in mind.” And if you have any kind of doubts, you could try fostering. Taking in a homeless dog or cat into your home until they are adopted will still let them know that there is someone who will give them the care and love that they deserve.

(Cat Pics Included, Story In Comments!) I’m A “Dog Person” Who Just Got Adopted By A Cat Because She Felt So Familiar, So Comfortable, Like We’re Soulmates Who Were Separated. Love Nala For Coming Into My Life At The Absolute Perfect Time, When I Needed Her Most.
Here's the story, directly copied from Reddit: Ive never really like cats, kind of indifferent to them. However, a month ago, this little kitten was playing in the yard with my boys. I go down there to tell them it’s not our cat, be careful, don’t accidentally hurt her (theyre 5), etc and as soon as she laid eyes on me… I was hers. She spent a few nights on the porch but we had our first cold night and i let her in. She just gets me… I trust her. She’s intelligent. She only has to be told no once about something. She follows me to the bathroom in the middle of the night and gives me purrs— if that isn’t love, what is?! I swore I’d never have a cat 🐈⬛ but it happened. She’s mine and damnit I love her!!! She was born to my neighbors cat; there are about 2 dozen cats living on their property. Just not a good situation. So she kept coming to our house, waiting on my porch when I got home from work, so I went to the neighbors. I asked them if they would be interested in rehoming her
; they immediately said “no we’re keeping the brown cat, you can have one of the other ones” and I politely said it was this specific cat I wanted and explained how much time she’s spent with us. They weren’t buying it. So I put her down and two hours later she was back at my house. She slept on the porch for a few days because I expected the neighbors to come looking for her. Well long story shortish, it’s been one month and no one has said anything. She’s established with a vet, I’m getting her spayed next week and I have plenty of photos documenting how long she’s been with us. Pictures of her sleeping in our bed, laying on the couch, etc. if these negligent cat owners try to take her back— she’s MINE now. She probably wouldn’t go to anyone else anyway. I figure this is enough to prove we’ve been her caregiver for this month and I doubt they have even noticed she’s gone. They literally have so many cats they probably haven’t noticed! I doubt they would ever take me to court, but I

However, if you’re a hundred percent sure about adopting, remember that a pet is not just for the holidays, but for the rest of its life. According to the ASPCA, as you go through lifestyle changes, your animal will remain a permanent part of your life. Make sure that you will be able to care for your pet no matter the circumstances.

Just Adopted This Two Fellas, Gino And Chester (Main Coons)
I don't understand how anyone could surrender them. Despite the long ass coat which needs daily grooming they are so easy to look after. Much easier and way more placid than my current nightmare (Insta Pepper The Egyptian Mau).
Yeah... hard to believe that they were 'adopted'. Maine c**n cats are so damn expensive, so why would anyone pay so much to buy them and then dump them at the shelter?! Probably bought from a breeder and then claim they are 'adopted' to get likes on the internet.
Load More Replies...Your personality and lifestyle also play an important role in determining which pet is best suitable for you: “Research different breeds and ask shelter staffers for guidance—they’re experts at making perfect matches!” And lastly, when you've found your new furry friend, check your home and make it safe and ready for them to arrive. “That includes keeping toxic foods, pet-unfriendly plants and dangerous household items out of paw’s reach,” ASPCA recommended.
I Found A Stray Cat, She Followed Me Home. I Guess I Own A Cat Now
Beautiful cat indeed very special, I'd have her checked for chip and if this is condition you found her, I strongly doubt she is stray. Also as already mentioned, white cats have often genetically poor hearing, are deaf or they tend to have issues with ear canals which is very important to know.
You're right about white cats often having hearing/ear problems. The one green, one blue eye is known as heterochromia and 30% of cats with this phenomenon are deaf.

Found A Tiny Kitten In Our Garage…the Dog Adopted Him As Her Puppy
One thing most of us can definitely agree on—there’s nothing more wholesome and heartwarming than hearing stories about rescued pets and the kind-hearted people who took them in. Sadly, we can’t adopt them all, but we can at least look at the ones who already found their forever homes and get to live the life they truly deserve.

A Tree Cat who has obviously not forgotten her roots. (Pun fully intended.)

Remembering That Time We Went To The Shelter To Adopt A Kitten, And They Had A Bogo (Okay Not Really, One Adoption Fee Waived) On Kitties, So We Adopted Brothers.
I love that they have the same head tilt and expressions! Cute boys!
Kittens are nearly always BOGO....but that is a very very good thing. Twice the happiness.
Omg. My daughter and i adopted brothers as kittens and they looked exactly the same. Cheese on the left and my Elvis on the right, for when he started coloring his hair black. Since he died I've not been able to have another cat. He was the best. But I've opened my heart to many dogs since then.
I Adopted My Grandmother’s Cat When She Passed Away And We Are Both Adjusting To Life Without Her Together. I’d Like To Know What Breed He Is; He Is Bigger Than Any Cat I Have Had Before!
You're obviously a dog person. That's okay, you just have to learn a different language. As a bonafide cat person I can say with absolute certainty that your cat's breed is Orange. You're welcome.
Male cats tend to be slightly larger than females anyways and since orange tabby cats are usually always male (due to genetics. Females must acquire orange genes from both the mother and father cats while males only need the orange gene from one parent), they are larger by default. Their size is also linked to their more laid back demeanor, so they tend to become fatter. Also, it is said that since orange cats aren't able to camouflage themselves as well, their size is a trade off to be more desirable to female cats during breeding.

Load More Replies...Ginger cats are very often bigger in general - genetic condition compensating for color which is visible all the time. Also often they are males (I did not see ginger female cat in my life but people tend to say they have / know some). So yours seems to fit right in picture, forget about breed, its at all not important. I'm sorry for your loss, but you got yourself great companion and I wish you two all the best to handle anything what comes.
My granny had a female ginger cat, the only one I've ever seen. She had beautiful swirly markings, very timid and quite small. Her name was Mitz-Mutz but we called her Mitzi
Load More Replies...Do you have any of your grandmother's clothing? If can can get a few pieces or her blanket? If do put where cat sleeps and, don't wash it. Her smell will help the cat adjust. If she wore cologne, see if you can get it. Just a thought.

My Wife And I Adopted These Two Beautiful Fiv+ 6 Month Old Cats. Nobody Else Wanted To Rescue Them
Thank you for adopting these cute kitties! FIV + cats are hard to adopt out- but the good news is I see many FIV + OLD cats, so they can live a long time! (Vet here.)
They appear very attached to each other. It's so lovely that you've kept them together, may you all be graced with joy for long, long time!
I had an fiv+ cat for around 8 years (he was 3 when I adopted him) still one of my best memories of being a teen. I miss him so. Please don't overlook these guys (gals) they can live long and healthy lives too.
FIV positive cats cannot come in contact with other cats, they'll infect them. So a FIV+ cat must be a indoor cat and can't be placed with an existing FIV- cat. Therefore a lot of people have to skip them over.
Good for you that you stepped up when no one else would. Two of our five current rescues are FIV+, so we keep them apart from the other three. Other than that we know they're FIV+, there's no difference that I can see.
They can't simply infect another cat from being around them at all that's NOT true. Even scratches don't transmit the disease but deep wounds from the infected cat or bites do. My fiv cat lived with others and he never passed it on as he never fought with them and I have one now.
Isn't it Feline Lukemia where you have to keep them apart? I always thought they were 2 different things. The FIV+ cat moved 2 years ago, and everybody here is still healthy
Load More Replies...My former roommate adopted a 4 year old street tom who was FIV +. Said probably got it fighting over females. Ran the house of 3 humans, 4 other cats, and a Jack Russell Terrier like a true OG. He is around 10 now, and quite healthy, never passed it to any of the other cats.
My Brother’s New Adopted Kitten. She Has Ocean Eyes And So Much Floof!
"You really know how to make me cry when you give me those ocean eyes"
She may or may not keep them. All kittens have blue eyes, but they change into their real color as they get older. The last kitten I rescued and adopted was about 5-6 weeks old at the time, and had the bluest eyes. Which then turned a soft gray before finally settling on being jade green. It’s actually pretty cool to see them change, and a surprise when they get to their permanent color.

Adopted This Giant Fluff From A Friend Of A Friend
Beautiful! He looks like a livestock guard dog. I took in a stray Pyrenees six months ago, and if you haven't had him long, they have some unique mannerisms like staying up barking all night, they're slow and methodical and can be very independent (some folks say stubborn, some say dim-witted, but I think "slow" is just in their nature). If you're on Facebook, you might check out the groups "Great Pyrenees-Our Gentle Giants" and "Training Support for Livestock Guardian Dogs." LGDs are also often seen as disposable by folks who no longer need an LGD, so thanks for much for giving him a loving home!

When we took one of our rescue dogs for the first visit to our vet, I said the folks at the shelter had written "No clue. But Awesome." and a happy face in the Breed section. The vet took a look at the utterly bizarre conglomeration of coloring, size, ear shape, and a gazillion other features that just made no sense. He said "well, the mother was sure a *friendly* girl." He wrote in the breed area "PossiblySomeSortOfCanine" and a happy face. Our "PossiblySomeSortOfCanine" lived to be 18 years old. 😁

We Adopted This Lil Kitty Yesterday And She Hasn’t Moved From This Spot
Pet her where she is, bring her a toy. She is just scare. Talk to her in a sweet voice. She will be fine!
Just be patient. She’ll come out. Then she’ll come lay down next to you. Then she’ll stick to you like Velcro. That when the love will start.
Food and water nearby. She will be curious and start watching you. Then, always next/on you.
cats should be kept in a small room the 1st few days, like a bathroom. it's too much new things for them too fast, so give them time to decompress.

Adopted A Guinea Pig Last Week
I've always heard everyone say you MUST have at least two. So recently I got a second one and the very knowledgeable lady who helped me said it's not true, some of them really prefer being alone and really struggle to adapt to living with a friend. So just putting that out there... it's not as much of a hard rule as some people say.
This! I have a single Guinea pig, and the vet told us that if you pay attention to them, and make sure they are doing fine alone, it’s perfectly ok to have one. I know if you look on the internet, everything says you HAVE to have at least two, but a vets advice is better than the internet.
Load More Replies...My husband and I only adopt elderly dogs. We had 4 in 2019. We have one 15 yr old left. It's very hard on us emotionally and sometimes financially but every animal deserves a loving safe home. We're going to wait a little bit before we adopt again. Our old guy is being tested for cancer on Thursday and I'm really anxious.
I’m really sorry :( hope it goes well! It’s great that you’ve given them a second chance! <3
Load More Replies...We got our guy back in April. He spent the first 4yrs of his life in a trailer with 80 other dogs. We have a fenced yard and everything was new, grass, butterflies, snow. Still has a ways to go but not a mean bone in his body and once we are able to finally get a leash on him and take him for walks his wee doggy mind will be blown.
I could serve this thread with two guinea pigs this month: last week a rescued lady for our mixed group and a castrated baby boy for our boar group yesterday. Sadly, we also lost a piggy a week ago :( R.I.P. little Oskar
As someone who doesn't Show feelings often this is the right place for me to show up happy tears.
My sister adopted a cat from Bulgaria this year (we live in the UK). He had been deliberately hit by a vehicle as he was a street cat. His injuries were horrific. He had one eye that had ruptured, the other just popped out of his socket which was fractured. He also had a broken jaw. He was a big orange tabby so he was called Garfield. My sister saw him on a Facebook post and immediately wanted to adopt him. She contacted the charity who was taking care of Garfield and did a Zoom interview. Because of Garfield's injuries he had to have his eyes removed rendering him blind. Luckily my sister had previous experience of caring for a blind cat. She passed her Zoom interview with flying colours and was supposed to receive Garfield in Dec 2020 but due to travel restrictions she couldn't get him until April this year. She drove across the UK to collect him and he's such a cuddle bug. He's adorable and has even caught a rat in the garden despite being blind!
That's adorable. :) We also adopted a blind kitty from Greece but he was born blind. Always great to see how well he gets along with everything. The only thing he doesn't really like is wind. Evil thing that "touches" him without permission! :)))
Load More Replies...I really needed this today. All the beautiful pets and people, really lifted me up. That, and my baby cat Lloyd snuggling me till almost lunchtime. Thanks to everyone who rescues.
Is it too late to add a shot of my rescue Chataro? He turned up in our driveway about 7 years ago, closer to death's door than I ever want to be. Nursed him back to health, and he's become the love of my life. I can't begin to tell how much happiness he bring into my life. Cha_30_40-...d84370.jpg
He's gorgeous er, very handsome. Yes, pets steal our hearts in such good ways.

I have a black barn cat who acts as a panther. He constantly brings me dead mice and rats from the fields around us. I adopted him when I saw that he was rescued from a really bad situation. Abandoned and crying on top of his dead brothers body. His name is buster.
