It's the end of the month, which means Bored Panda has compiled a new list of adorable animal adoption photos. Many kittens, doggos, bunnies, and other critters have found their forever homes in April, and can now relax and enjoy being part of their new families.

It's incredibly heartwarming to know that with the coronavirus ravaging the world and some shelters closed to the public, people are still finding ways to open their hearts and offer neglected animals a second chance at life.

Continue scrolling to check out the images and be sure to check out our March, February, and January articles if you've fallen behind on the series!

"During this period of great uncertainty, one bright spot has been the incredibly passionate response from people willing to open their homes and hearts to foster and adopt vulnerable shelter animals," Pamela Reid, PhD, CAAB, Vice President of The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Behavioral Sciences Team, told Bored Panda in a statement. "At the ASPCA, we have seen a nearly 70 percent increase in animals going into foster care through our New York City and Los Angeles foster programs, compared to the same time period in 2019. Even in times of crisis, Americans are stepping up to show their commitment to animals in need."

Not all animal shelters expected this. "We thought people were going to bring their animals in and then run for the hills," Katy Hansen, communications director for the Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC), told Vox. However, the pandemic opened up an entirely new demographic of potential pet fosters: "The people that were filling up the applications were primarily millennials who lived with roommates. That's not a demographic that we usually see coming forward to foster because they're working and they live with three people." At any given time, ACC has over 600 animals in their care. Now, it's less than 100.

he's comfortable in his new home! congratulations to you all!

Reid also noted that it's important to think about the future when our regular work and school routines commence again. "Your dog or cat may be left confused (and lonely!) once everyone is rushing out the door instead of spending time at home. Even while you and your family are home, start to prepare your pet by designating time for them to spend ... alone throughout the day."

First, Reid suggested creating a cozy, inviting place for your dog or cat to nap away from all the activity of remote work and school. You can even put on some soothing music or radio. For example, there are Spotify playlists dedicated entirely to calming your pet.

"When giving your pet time away from you, offer your dog tasty chews to keep him busy. You can purchase all sorts of interesting and easily digestible chews online, such as bully sticks, tendons, tracheas, scapulas and cheek rolls," Reid explained. "Both dogs and cats will also be entertained for some time with an interactive food-puzzle toy."

Also, there are many free game apps for cats to play with on their own. Reid said you can also find battery-operated toys online that may keep your cat busy and happy on their own. "Leave your home and take a stroll outside without your dog occasionally to practice leaving the house for short durations. While you're out, leave your dog a chew or their meal in a puzzle toy to keep them busy and occupied during your absence."

Pets have kept us company for thousands of years, and they've been especially helpful during the quarantine, helping us manage our stress and anxiety levels. So let's try to put in the extra effort and help them transition back to normal life when the pandemic is over.

My dog Aubree has been in too many homes to count. People didn´t want her because she´s anxious, has ear problems, and is a little clumsy. But she is fun and hard-headed which makes her fit in. We are currently working on helping her ears and have had her for a few years now. We hope that in the near future we will be able to get her a little sister to play with her.

People think that they can bring a dog home and he will be “normal.” Dogs need a lot of time to establish a routine and feel safe in a new home. It can take months, but some people think if it is not instant, then the dog needs to go back. They are willing to do little to no work. I rescue dogs and I had someone return a dog after 24 hours, saying the dog missed me. When I asked them why they thought that, they said he whined all night. I sympathized and told them it takes time. When I enquired further as to what the sleeping arrangements were, they said they had put him in a crate in the basement and shut all of the lights. No wonder the dog whined. He was frightened! I always tell adopters that it is a good idea to crate a new dog at night in their bedroom for a bit so they don’t wander and that many find the crate a safe space. But, who thinks it is a good idea to put a dog in a crate alone in the basement??? Needless to say, I took the dog back Immediately.

I just want to wrap my arms around this boy and love on him! People just understand the trauma that they put these poor, sweet souls through when they abandon them. Even if they abandon them at a shelter, it is still traumatizing. Jake has a good home now!

I foster cats and it's a big deal that adult cat isn't hiding ❤️ She is very alert though, you can see it in the eyes 😄 Just a tip - cats don't like and don't need collars, especially with bells, which dingle under their ears all day and annoy their hearing. 👈
