Not a long time has passed since the last PETA controversy but it seems that the organization is not keen on learning from its past mistakes. Just this April, Bored Panda wrote about their cringe-worthy attempt to stop people from drinking cow’s milk and earlier this year, the organization received huge backlash over their criticism of Steve Irwin. This time, it came under the spotlight for featuring a Pokemon Wooloo in their marketing campaign that’s speaking out against shearing sheep. It is not the first time the infamous animal rights organization has attempted to use videogame characters to push their agenda and to make a controversial statement. This time, PETA’s target is Pokémon Sword and Shield and its new sheep pocket monster Wooloo which was introduced during the most recent Pokémon Direct presentation. Judging from people’s reaction on Twitter, Pokemon fans are definitely not on board with PETA using Wooloo to push their agenda. In addition to this, many were quick to point out that the campaign is not only disgraceful – it is also spreading dangerous misinformation. PETA’s tweet featured Wooloo standing with a sign that says, “I’m not your Wooloo sweater,” suggesting that shearing sheep is animal cruelty. However, the majority of people who have a basic education understand that shearing domesticated sheep is necessary for their health. But who are we to tell PETA what’s right for animals?..

Peta is the worst when it comes to animals....they love taking money tho
PETA reminds me of celebrity super fans that love the celebrity so much they end up killing them
They already went through a whole thing to "release" circus animal cookies on the package....THIS IS WHAT PEOPLES MONEY IS GOING TOWARDS "RELEASING" CARTOON ANIMALS.... while still killing real ones... unfortunately stupid s**t like this is still giving them publicity. Good or bad they are remaining relevant and that is ultimately the goal for a s**t agenda pushing company like them.
it’s the most unexpected crossover event and as a sheep farmer who knows nothing about Pokemon I am both now more open minded and 100% HERE FOR IT... all Pokemon fans are welcome to come see our real life woolloos and i’ll have the kettle on and biscuits out!!! xxxx
Cristina Uhlir.... excuse my language but GO F**K SOME BITCHES YOU C**K SUCKIN’ C**T
So first of all I hate Peta. Now that that's out of the way, I find it rather funny that they are jumping on the Wooloo bandwagon (because the internet collectively is in love with this little sheep) to push their agenda when a few years back they campaigned against the pokemon franchise because it "condones animal fighting rings" or something to that effect. The hypocrisy is astounding. I wish this f*cking group would go away already
Can't use wool, can't use leather, cotton will also be bad at some point because of climate change or plants have feelings or some other nonsense. Oh and synthetic materials will also be evil because, why? Well, they're made from crude oil. Let's all get naked then!!!! ;-)
Not a fan of PETA...but I like feta...many things taste betta with feta...
The trailer showed Wooloo in its natural habitat, not any farms or slaughterhouses. The Pokemon website even states that when Wooloo are handled by humans, they are usually unharmed by the shearing process. If PETA won't do their research about official information, then it's a sign. Their message is clear, but they're more focused on getting attention than stopping actual sheep torture. As someone who never wears wool and would NEVER harm an animal if I had the opportunity, I don't need PETA and their cognitive dissonance to ruin what I believe in.
PETA at one time had some good ideas, but now they have degenerated into fanatics, redoubling their efforts when they have forgotten their aim.
PETA only ever does harm. Like saying to open opossum pouches if they "look dead"...
I think PETA is a bunch of pricks, they kill dogs and then this lawsuit against a photographer who dedicated his life to protect animals - but the obvious PETA-like solution would be to not breed sheep at all, not to stop shearing the existing ones.
Wasn't PETA: people eating tasty animals on the artical about law advice??
I don't know what PETA is but the message looks silly. If not wool, what else is safe to wear?
I hate peta! Whatever they do, they certainly don’t do it for the lives of mistreated animals or pets! I read the article several years back, about them taking a pet off someone’s porch, a chi, and without a hesitant thought, before the owners could save it, peta euthanized their dog! That is neither ethical, kind, caring or taking care of an animal! They are a disturbed bunch of Waco’s that need to be disbanded.
PETA's opinions are moronic, we all know that. But this and so many other 'campaigns' are jut their version of clickbait; to get a reaction. Any reaction. So many people still fall for it.
I'm so fed up of social justice organisations and journailist jumping on bandwagons and trying to ruin popular brands and games. Gamers want nothing to do with them, leave us alone and let us play games in peace. This is what Twitter has turned into; which is why so many people are ditching Twitter for Facebook and Instagram...
It's really very simple. As animal welfare gets better, or is promoted by others, becoming part of the public consciousness, they lose their 'monopoly'...they don't have a unique platform anymore. They are trying to remain 'relevant' in any way that they can, by reaching.
Wooloo:*exists* Rule 34 artists: I'm about to end this Pokemon's whole career
Also the fact peta is trying to capitalise on pride with a profile pic
Honestly. I barely know sh*t about sheep and even I know that they need to be sheared. Peta just needs to stop
shearing is good for sheep otherwise they could get sick and the wool can get dirty but peta are just dirty liars and they hurt them
Life is hard, no wool due sheep rights, no fur for obvious reasons, no cotton because water must be saved, no down because the birds, no synthetic fibers because microplastics. And still.. winter is coming..
