A California man was surprised when his girlfriend's cat came home one day with a note. The note, attached to Nala's collar, said:

“I don't know who this cat belongs to, but she comes visits [sic] us every few weeks. She'll meow outside our back door until we let her in, she wounds [sic] herself around our legs, walks about the house like it's hers, waits @ the fridge until my husband or I fed [sic] her baloney. She doesn't like our cat food very much! We look forward to her visits. We lost our 21 yr old cat this yr.”

Soon, others started to write in with their own stories. Check them out below, or submit your own!

Nala the cat went out to play in the neighborhood  just like every other day, however this time...

My sisters cat used to visit the neighbours and was loved by the whole family until she got a little too comfortable and started sharing with them her bad habit of pooping in the bathroom sink

My Grams had a dog. Well she had someone else's dog. No matter when it was, Shilo, the neighbourhood black lab was curled up under my Grams's tree in the front yard. She would give him treats and he was a good boy. Never seemed to go home haha!! One day, when I was about 10 or so I went down to the pond and Shilo followed. I was walking through the tall weeds toward the shore to look for somw tadpoles or something and Shilo bolted out in front of me. Then I saw the weeds moving erratically and the worst sounds imaginable. Shilo was protecting me from a giant beaver! Beavers can be quite aggressive believe it or not and God knows what could have happened if it were not for dear Shilo. He was beat up pretty good but he was okay. He is my hero!

Neighbour's cat visits us- our own cat is not impressed but tolerates him. We worry as sometimes he does not return home at night but will sleep outside. Cats are the strangest of creatures l.o.l

My car used to come home smelling of wood smoke. After a conversation with a neighbor, I learned that he visited from time to time and napped in front of their fireplace.

I had a cat who had several families around the neighborhood lol ! Also went in to many different buildings so people would call me to come and get him , even a couple of miles away on a big university campus . No wonder he was so fat lol . He even went in to the corner Mac's store and I had to get him at 3 am. ( we put out phone number on his collar , so people would't turn him in to the city ) .

So is the cat male or female? The pronouns change after one paragraph.

My family had an orange stripped cat who moved up the street. The people there called to tell us when they were taking him to the vet. That was nice. He never moved back.

We used to live on a rural farm with lots of stray cats in our barn. We spayed and neutered all the cats that we could including a large orange male. This large kitty we named marmalade & used to come over all the time. But after neutering him, we never saw him again. Except when we were driving down the road & saw marmalade sitting proudly on a table inside the neighbours house looking out at us.... We had neutered the neighbours cat.... Ha! At least that cut down the cat populations... Ha!

pretty sure that my cat does the same. Which is more odd he would take a warm nap at my place every once in a while , but sometimes he just wants to go out in the cold, vanishes for a few days then goes back fed up and clean ...what a bastard grin emoticon (he steals my dog's pillow every time)

A cat from 2 doors up decided to move to our house after his owners bought a new cat home. We tried over and over putting over the fence and shooing him back to his house, but he had decided that our house was his new home, so he stayed. Unfortunately he has passed away now but Fraidy was a gorgeous cat and he became part of our family.

My cat insist upon going out every late afternoon/evening and doesn't come back until about 10 pm. I wonder if she has another family? Especially when she isn't as cold or wet as she should be :-)

One of my cats growing up liked to wander into my neighbor across the streets garden. She ended up letting her in and she would wander back and forth between houses. We got another cat and she decided to stay across the street. 10+ years later and she still lives across the street and comes to say hi when I'm home for the holidays. My family is obviously not good enough for her. Hahaha

We have the same problem but Frank is not a problem but a joy especially after I lost my cat by a car accident. Frank has converted my fiance Greg and he makes our day. The owners know we are in love with him so it's all good. Today Frank told another cat in the neighborhood the good gig he's got but it's a one man cat... keep the owners informed so they don't have to worry.

Ah, I see neuter nazis are all excited again. Typical human thing to want to control every other species when they are unable to control their own and reproduce like f*****g rabbits. Neuter yourself and stop making unnecessary kids who consume all our ressources and destroy our planet, then you can tell others to neuter their pets (even if in my opinion people should do whatever they want with their pet without being judged by people thinking they rule the world.

I know this sounds strange, but many cats need jobs to feel good. Making visits around to the neighbor' homes fulfills that urge. Some even find that cleaning off counters, tables, etc. of drinks, eye drops, remotes, phones...to be a fun rewarding job. Often it is celebrated by loud cheering from their owners! Lol

What a great perspective, Elaine! Thanks for sharing. It is just like with dogs. Cats can get so easily bored, and it is as unfair to them as it is for dogs.

I thoroughly do believe cats do pick their people. I also believe they know when a person needs their companionship and affection. thus the cat who comforted the people who lost their 21 yr old. My daughter never cared for cats until a tiny skinny kitten showed up on her porch. So I'm not so sure she adopted the cat or the cat adopted her.

My aunt used to live 6 houses away from us. She got a kitten from the same litter as our cat, so they would run back and forth between the houses and play together and share food all the time. We found out later that our cat was going to an old lady's house between our houses and getting cream from her, and he would also just randomly walk into other neighbours' houses and make himself at home!

In my old townhouse we had 2 visiting kitties. One would come to eat and then lounge on his favourite spot on the living room sofa as if he's lived and slept there his entire life. The other first just came up to the door for snacks, but as he got more and more comfortable he would venture further into the house to enjoy snacks in the kitchen and play with our girl cat. He would stand on his hind legs to scratch at the door until we let him in or put out food.

Our sons 2,5 year old cat dissapered this summer for 6 weeks. We were worried, but he came back, stay for a couple of weeks and then he was gone again! Now, after he has been missing for a few months, he came back 2 days ago. And he i HUGE! I don´t know who is feeding him, but he get a lot of food :) Then he stays here for some days and take of again. And I feel sorry for his "other family", I guess they are worried, when he i s gone. So I will hang up a note in the local supermarket, so I can find out, who we are sharing him with :)

We once rescued and took care of an abandoned kitten. After a few months he went on to live with an old lady next door and never bothered us. After a couple of years when the old lady moved out to a new place, he refused to go with her and when taken forcibly he came back to our place leaving the old lady heartbroken. He's been with us for a few years now but when i starting taking care of a couple of other cats, he's moved away and not seen for over a month now. Hoping to see him soon!

Well this beautiful cat was sneaking in my sons bedroom and sleeping with him, when i found out i found her in my lap before i realized it wasnt my cat, he had her for over a month. After that she moved in and never left and became my best friend. Followed me and loved me unconditionally. My thought is if u have a need they are their. Even if they are someone else's Pam

My mom and dad used to take turns with their next door neighbor feeding each other's cats. Dad would feed early in the morning and the neighbor would feed them in the evening. The neighbor got married and moved about 30 miles away. Mom came home and one of the neighbor's cats was sitting on the front porch. Mom called the neighborhood or and said, "Did you drop Bailey off at the house?" The neighbor said, "Is he there with you? We've been looking everywhere for him. He's been gone for about a month!" Mom told her she would bring him back to her house but she said no. Bailey has obviously chosen who he wants to live with.

I have a cat that lives outside primarily and everyday we crack the garage door so she can go in and out as she pleases, our neighborhood has many cats, feral or not and my cat seems to host a sort of kitty bed and breakfast in our garage because I will often go in their to get a soda and I see a new car almost every month wth the exception of one black cat who seems to visit pretty often
