To make beautiful handwriting often requires a great ink pen also. You can tell a lot of these were written with nib pens.

Once, whilst travelling in Italy and visiting countless wonders of art and architecture, I got sick and tired of the appalling graffiti in all the toilets (I was hosteling and camping) so I drew a large, detailed image of a statue from the Trevi fountain holding a bottle of Smirnoff vodka and wrote 'Inter Rail and Smirnoff leave me breathless'. It would have washed off had anyone ever bothered, but I just thought the city deserved a better class of vandalism :-)
