There are some people out there who have been dealt a bad hand since the day they were born. Because of their unfortunate names, their lives have been difficult from the get-go. From jokes in kindergarten to bullying at school, it just goes to show how bad it can get if you’ve got the ‘wrong’ name.

Unfortunately, problems don’t stop after high school. There are plenty of everyday technological problems and nuisances that people with bad names have to face in life, and here are some of the best. Oh, and after you’re done reading this post, be sure to check out Bored Panda’s articles about people with unfortunate name tags and the very worst names that will make you wonder what people’s parents were thinking.

Morgan Jerkins reveals that her childhood was full of kids making fun of her because of her funny name. And this made her cringe, feel ashamed and made her want to run away. However, as she grew up, she eventually learned to accept and love her name and stopped feeling shame whenever she heard it. The Huffington Post writes that “we attack others in order to feel good” or to make ourselves look better in comparison. However, there’s no excuse for bullying, even if it’s ‘just’ poking fun at somebody’s supposedly hilarious name.

Living with a name that others aren’t used to can cause a great deal of funny problems. I can’t tell you the number of times people have mispronounced my name (the ‘J’ is supposed to sound like a ‘Y’). And don’t even get me started on how difficult it is for foreigners to pronounce my surname. By the time Americans and the British will have accomplished this feat, we’ll have colonized Mars. However, I’m very happy with my last name, and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Not everyone is as lucky to have an awesome surname like mine, though.

You are living among them. They're (mostly) corporations so terrified of offending someone, they seek to avoid any negative PR that they don't care about these sort of consequences. These actions simply show they really don't care their customers/users, despite their proclamations (by engaging in this censoring) that they do. This issue (computer-wise) could easily be solved by suspending these "rules" for name fields. Would some "take advantage" of that? Yes... but that's life.

When I lived in Alaska, some fellow a couple of grades above me almost ruined my life. My last name is "Kelly", and he used to rhyme insults with others. Well, one day on the bus he picked me out and started calling me "Smelly Kelly", and it caught on. But he didn't stop there. Adding my full name, which is John L Kelly, they came up with "John(potty)Latrine Smelly". And since I was the third in my family with that name, I was also the "Turd". It was horrible living with that, but the "Smelly Kelly" was the worst thing, because the bigger kids made light of it a lot...........until I was playing baseball one day, and an older kid started up, and I swung my bat at him and broke his arm. After that, no one ever called me that again. It was a learning experience. People can be very cruel, and sometimes you have to stand up and fight back, no matter the outcome. When I left Alaska, I left all the name calling behind.

Oh, one other thing. I was working in my basement shop this evening, and Fox News was reporting on hurricane Dorian. They called in their Big Gun, Joe Bastardi. I immediately started laughing at that, and had to come back upstairs and post about it. How would you all like to be growing up and have a last name like that? I wonder how many fights he got into while growing up?

My maiden name was Gehrm—-pronounced like “gurm”, but almost always mispronounced like germ (Slovene grandparents, it was originally spelled Grm). When I married an Englishman named Baylis, I truly thought my days having to explain my last name were over. Nope, I still have to explain that there’s only one “s” at the end, and still have people mispronounce it Bailey, Ballas, and even Bagless (that one was my first and last name—-how do you get “Karen Bagless” out of Kathy Baylis?). Really people, take care with a person’s name. It. Is. Their. Name. FFS.

These names misspellings, as you say, are actually more important than many would think. How many times did I need to call customer service for a good variety of life serious services that didn't work for me because my name that was registered in the database was different from my passport..... Also, there were news, not so long ago, police arrested the wrong person due to a typo...... Horror

My maiden name is a slang word for the male appendage, and the street number I used to live at was 69. I had to call roadside assistance once to help start my car, and they literally weren't going to turn up because they thought it was a prank call. Thankfully one of the staff knew me through his wife, and told them I was legit. That was one of the many issues my name (and address at times) caused.

This thread is probably long dead but, as someone wit the maiden name of "Hoes", this is all great! With the help of some really great parenting and strong sense of tradition and heritage, I grew up loving my last name (after I learned how to deal with it). I played along with all of the jokes in school from water hose, to panty hose to just plain, HOES! And came up with good comebacks for all of them. It gave me thicker skin, unique identity, comical breaks, and stronger connection my fellow Hoes! Problems with this name: I had to send a copy of my birth certificate to FB to get my name accepted. My brother has it worse though since he still has the name and now children with the name. He has had women ask him or his wife why they are so cruel to their daughters and allowing them to still have that name and why haven't they changed it for them?

I've met a few people I've met in my life who had unfortunate names (so.e to the point I wondered if their parents secretly hated them). I swear all of these are real: - Charley Brown - Richard Head. - A guy with the last name of Sample in Navy boot camp (so he was called Seaman Sample). - Michael Hunt (who I sited on NEVER being called Mike, whether you used his last name or not). And the absolute worst ever? Harry Butte. I'm not kidding or making this up... As soon as he turned 18 he legally changed his last name.

There is a YouTube host who was formerly named Rob Dykes. YouTube started blocking his channel because his name was "offensive" and they felt he was doing it to be upsetting. He literally had to legally change his surname in order to rescue his career/channel. I have had a coworker with the surname Dykes, and I have met people with that surname as well. It's more common than you think and is older than the usage as a slur. Dyke because a slur in the 1920s-1930s (I don't know why that word was chosen, but if anyone does I'd like to know).

Once tried to name one of my Pokémon (a koffing) “fartbag” on Pokémon Go. I was denied my childishness, and tried “Tootbag” instead, but was still denied. Very confused, I tried to figure it out. “Fart” and “toot” were fine in their own, and so was “bag,” it was when they were paired that the name was blocked. Through the process of elimination, I found that the banned word within it was “tbag”. Which… fair.

Sorry someone made a decision about her own name. It can be triggering for some males when women make personal decisions that have nothing to do with them. It is especially victimizing to incels.

And this is why I utterly despise censorship. I personally haven't been affected by the name issue, but I know people who have. I know how frustrated they get when they're told their family name is "offensive". Facebook is well known for not only censoring so-called "offensive" names, but for not allowing people to use their real names because FB assumes the name is a joke or parody.

It. Is. Their. Name. FFS.

I swear all of these are real: - Charley Brown - Richard Head. - A guy with the last name of Sample in Navy boot camp (so he was called Seaman Sample). - Michael Hunt (who I sited on NEVER being called Mike, whether you used his last name or not).

Same but I regret it. Mine was thirteen letters of middle eastern glory. Cut it in half and it just isn’t the same.

Well this is what happens when you let algorithms run things 🤷‍♀️

Algorithms are written by real people, who also have faces, names and last names.

Many clueless Finns have received Facebook bans for talking about a Finnish parliament member Kike Elomaa. Must've been confusing to those who don't speak English.

Half the time people call me "Suh-tinna" and the other half of the time they call me "kNolling" so that's all the time wrong. All the time wrong.

Do you now see the dangerous power that is in the hands of twits?

And this is why I utterly despise censorship. I personally haven't been affected by the name issue, but I know people who have. I know how frustrated they get when they're told their family name is "offensive". Facebook is well known for not only censoring so-called "offensive" names, but for not allowing people to use their real names because FB assumes the name is a joke or parody.

That shows how stupid algorithms and their creators are in their politically correct language.
