It's funny that a vegan is mad about a leaf in their food. I could imagine ONE person getting bent out of shape because of never seeing a bay leaf before, but this is a whole phenomenon. (PS - I try to take the bay leafs out before I serve food because people can choke on the petiole, which remains pretty sharp even after hours of being cooked.)

Am I missing something? Those are BAY LEAVES. You use them in cooking, especially cuisines like Mexican. Granted, you are supposed to take bay leaves out of the pot before you serve the food, but they have a large kitchen there and some probably slipped through the cracks. They are certainly not leaves from trees outside!

I don't get it. Why would you be outraged by a leaf? Even if you didn't know what leaf it was? I mean, we eat spinach, lettuce, rocket, chives, kale... These are all leaves as far as I know. And fresh leaves of many trees are not only edible but delicious. Even pine needles are OK. So what's the problem?

I feel dumber for having seen this article. Not only did it bother me that people didn't know what it was but the writer of the article didn't say what it was and showed a lot of different pictures, more than necessary. As if people looking at the article needed multiple angles of a bay leaf to know what it is.

From a french point of view, bay leaves are used as spices, but they are not meant to be served in a plate, they give a good seasoning but are awful to eat. If i ever find one in my plate, i would feel as if no care was given to my dish.

The second to last one wasn't a bay leaf. It was an oak leaf. I know what bay leaves look like, they've narrow and long. That leaf was short, fat, and had edges like a saw. That is not what a bay leaf looks like.

Wouldnt these feel foolish if they kbew how many of the spices they use are actually ground bark...leaves....roots....seeds. Bay just happens to be one that adds flavor when added whole but if ground up becomes tiny bits of unpleasent texture.

Obviously, these folks don't cook from scratch - or had meals cooked from scratch growing up. They don't know what cooking herbs look like. We had a game at our house when we were kids - whoever gets the bay leaf gets the biggest piece of (pie, cake, or other dessert).

Obviously, these folks have never cooked a meal from scratch, using cooking herbs; they never had meals growing up made from scratch, using cooking herbs. In our house, we had a game: the person who gets the bay leaf gets the biggest piece of whatever was being served for dessert! I guess cooking from scratch, using real ingredients and real herbs is becoming a lost art. Too bad - because all the processed foods being consumed have minimal nutritional value and led to obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

I tease people that if they find a leaf in their food, they have won the opportunity to do the dishes. People are, on average, very removed from their food ingredients. Tell some people what they're actually eating and they'll get angry at you. For some reason, people hate to be told information, especially about things they are eating. People are especially pissed when you talk about animal sources of the food they're consuming, but I've seen it with some people when it's a chemical or even plant-based ingredient. Some people are freakishly squeamish about what they eat and are more comfortable in ignorance. I'm the opposite, so I don't get it.

To be fair, the spines of bay leaves are very stiff, even after cooking, so it really is best to remove it before serving the food. It's not good to bite down on it. I always remove it before serving the dish.

Yes, spices come from trees, bushes and grasses. Milk comes out of cows´ nipples and liver is a body part that cleanses the blood of an animal. Even eggs come out of the a**e of a fowl Holy s**t! You can´t eat anything these days, can you? Well, maybe quorn, but then again, that is made from a fungus found in soil ...

The second to last one wasn't a bay leaf. It was an oak leaf. I know what bay leaves look like, they've narrow and long. That leaf was short, fat, and had edges like a saw. That is not what a bay leaf looks like.

Yup, a bay leaf. They are supposed to be removed after cooking and you don't eat them, but they add great flavour to soups, etc.

Bay leaf? Whats wrong with it? I used often by cooking, whole leaf what is removed when the food is ready to eat. I do not know what is chipotle but probably the bay leaf is a part of spice?

I love how one just has to embellish it even further by adding “last time my sister found a tree branch”... So, she found (probably) cinnamon and then a leaf (clearly bay). Dear God, I found seasoning my food. Honestly, where is the common sense these days?

It was probably rosemary, cinnamon is almost exclusively used to make sweets.

Don´t argue with stupid people, they will lead you into their turf of stupid arguments an win.

The only way they can "win" is by driving away the person trying to inform them. And that's not really winning.

IDK, they look like bay leaves, curry leaves, mint leaves and other edible leaves. They should be glad that chipotle didn't over process their food! Where do they think their food comes from anyway? Fell from the sky?! Jeez.

In Portugal is quite common, we use the bay leaf in many of our dishes and its one of the best things we can add to give that extra flavor.

Wow...what a *ucking waste of my team reading that stupid article was. Had to put up every idiot twitter post didn't you? Two freaking pages of idiots who don't know what a bay leaf is, and that's the entire story. You paid someone to put this together? They didn't even do a good job of jamming together idiot twitter posts....for *ucks sake, DOES ANYONE THERE KNOW HOW TO WRITE IN ENGLISH??? The funniest thing about this article isn't the morons who don't know what they're eating, it's that someone got paid to write this and it's poor even by ninth grade multi-media class standards.
