Pride is a feeling that can be both constructive and destructive. Healthy pride often inspires positive behavior, however, the unhealthy aspect of it can make one arrogant and self-centered. Appreciating one's own growth and achievement is definitely a self-esteem booster, but overindulgence and comparison may lead to unpleasant consequences.

Usually, people's upbringing and surroundings are huge factors that affect what they feel proud of. For instance, some pandas are proud of sharing their bamboo because they are taught to value kindness more, while other pandas are probably proud of cunningly acquiring bamboo because they value cleverness more.

Whatever the case is, pride is just another feeling and it can arise in the strangest scenarios for a variety of reasons! Recently, a Redditor asked a question, “What are people stupidly proud of?” The viral thread received lots of responses revealing the strangest and most ridiculous reasons why people feel proud of themselves.

Bored Panda has compiled some of the most interesting answers from the thread, scroll below to read them all, and let us know what you feel about people who just love bragging about their trivial achievements. Lastly, keep celebrating your achievements pandas, and be proud of the good things you do!

Yes, and I'm going to take a lot of abuse for this comment and possibly be kicked off BP, but right now being gay, trans, whatever is a lot more popular than not. As with other areas (mental health for example) those who try to fit in with the 'in group' are detrimental to those who really do belong.

I totally get that! On the other hand, there is likely also more people coming out because it’s become a safe time to do so in most places. Not denying some people do it to “belong” in a group when they’re not actually that sexuality/gender

Indeed. This is my greatest pet peeve, especially since I used to be one of those people, wishing something was "actually wrong with me" so I could get more attention. I was 13. Guess what? Something is actually wrong with me, and I hate it so, so much.

Biggest example of it is people trying to claim they have OCD, while I know a friend's sister with it who can't have someone walk into their room because the carpet will look slightly different and it'll be terrible for them.

It was funny when people would use the term bipolar about themselves because they would flip moods, then I would come out and ask them what medications they were on for it and talk about different groups and whatnot. That always shut them up pretty quick.

I have been diagnosed with anxiety at various times in my life, but always feel like I'm faking it because it's not as bad as some of the examples i read about. I'm a functional adult, who holds a job, identifies as ambivert (I like being around people, but too much makes me tired, and I can totally give a presentation without being nervous because I've practised since I was 8). And yet I can have utterly random, unprovoked panic attacks while driving at 70mph on holiday. And I can have days when the thought of getting out of bed makes me cry. But because I can get on with my life *most* of the time, the times i can't I feel like a fraud.

Having adhd and needing (yes, needing) medication to function but it is highly regulated (classified as schedule 2, like fentanyl) bc people without this ailment constantly abuse it is NO fun. First of all, there are NO automatic refills, I must make a new appointment with my doctor and get a brand new, no-refills prescription every time, then there’s somehow always some problem or drama at the pharmacy. It must be a soft or unwritten rule to push back on stimulants or sched2 drugs, bc I know many, many adhd-ers who also have problems with pharmacies and their prescriptions. My pharmacy used to tell me my insurance was expired. Every time. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Kim Contreras

I had so many problems getting refills for a couple meds I take - yes, new prescription every month that I almost gave up. Then I heard about a little pharmacy (not the chain stores) that people were going to for years. Took my next couple prescriptions to them. They are so good about contacting your doctor and going to bat for you when insurance makes you jump through hoops to get your medicine approved. I don't know how I ever survived going to the major stores that have pharmacies. (Think - you already have a mental health problem and you have to cope with ongoing problems getting the meds you need.) check out the little pharmacies in your town.

Truth! I get beyond annoyed every time a normal person forgets to do something or "spaces out" and then says "oh, I am just SO ADHD!" - as if this is just some tendy way of saying "oops, I'm sorry. I forgot!" No, you don't all have ADHD... and no, you can't diagnose yourself based on one random moment you weren't paying attention. I also hate how every time i open up to someone about it, they will say - without fail - "Oh, I think i must have that too!." ADHD is a challenging condition that affects every aspect of my daily life and - despite some benefit from medication - I still have to work hard to manage it every single day. It's not one single moment in time; it's a chronic, life-altering condition.

I'm profoundly dyslexic - loads of people use it as an excuse when they clearly only have mild issues, that makes my life much harder. Nowadays, seems like a huge amount of kids are diagnosed as 'on the spectrum' this leads to those who genuinely need help getting way less.

I've been hospitalized for severe anxiety and panic attacks. It felt like I was going to die. I couldn't breathe; the muscles in my arms seized; I couldn't stand up because my legs turned to rubber. And I couldn't describe what was wrong with me because I lost feeling in my face and my mouth. It isn't cute or sexy or quirky or interesting. It's goddamn awful, and I wish people would stop co-opting it to excuse their character flaws and poor behavior, or to get attention. Same with OCD and dyslexia and Tourette's. People are affected by these issues in their day to day lives, mostly suffering quietly, while entitled attention seekers paint an awful picture of the rest of us.

Depression can be one of 2 things, depressed because of something that happened. Temporary. Depression as a mental illness. And it is debilitating and not temporary and it IS a mental illness. Nor do those pills help and can in fact aggravate it

Kim Contreras

The pills help me! I went from suicide attempts to being able to cope with life. It took a lot of therapy and many trial and errors with various meds. Finally we (yes - it takes work on both your psychiatrist's and your part) got some meds that work together. Don't give up on meds or doctors. Something/someone is out there that can help you deal with depression and anxiety. I am living proof.

I agree, 'fake' mental illnesses are not cute and quirky, you are quite right. Who decides that someone else's experience is false though? Me? You? I know that I'm not qualified. The only way that you could know, with some degree of certainty, is if they were examined more than once by a psychiatrist. Or if they owned up to it. I don't see how telling people they are fake when they may well be genuine, is anything more than gatekeeping. Also, I don't understand how someone pretending to be ill has any bearing on your or my wellbeing. To claim that it is debilitating is frankly ridiculous. For instance, how close to you do they need to be in order to affect your health? If one enters the room, can you sense it? If someone claims to be ill, your options are; 1) Ridicule a genuine sufferer, thinking they're fake, and cause them even more harm. 2) Offer support to them, and give them the benefit of the doubt. No harm done. You might just have improved someone's day.

The book is always better than the movie. The book is the entire story, as seen through the eyes of the author and interpreted by your brain. A movie is the writer’s and director’s reworking of the author’s story, to make it fit in a time slot and appeal to a range of audiences by cutting whole characters and storylines, framing for the modern perspective. and adding gratuitous nudity.

I think for the African American community it is a little bit different. It is only recently that we have started outwardly taking pride in being black because for the longest time in society we were told we are not good enough, smart enough or capable enough just because of the color of our skin. When you get told that for 100's of years, most in the community start to internalize this. So we are basically trying to undo a lot of generational trauma by being loud and proud about being black and uplifting ourselves. We are not saying we are better than anyone per se, but we are trying to uplift ourselves because in the past no one else would. I hope that makes sense 😊

I see a lot of stuff like this and I usually agree. Having grown up in the south and being surrounded by far-right beliefs as a liberal I know some very good people that are conservative. But I find it different with "MAGA" to support Trump you have to disconnect yourself from reality in some regard, be hateful, or just ignorant. Now I'm not saying that Biden is good or even most democrats. They still act with self interest, but as the alt-right seems to take over the typically conservative, it's no longer just a differing of opinion on what's best, it's actively working against LITERAL NAZIS running for office and seating in Congress.

How little sleep they need.

How much they spend on a car.

Everybody has a story. There can be plenty of sacrifice and struggle to make one proud of the place they were born. Some families sweat blood to get to a safer, a better place for their children to be born. They cross seas and warzones, walk through jungles, deserts and minefields, leave everything from their old life behind just to get to that place to be proud of. The same way a one's birthplace can make one feel awful. Anyhow, sometimes it explains so much about a somebody: "Born in Auschwitz" https://youtu.be/jg-PK5hTwrE

As opposed to someone who can weigh information, think for themselves, and make decisions based on that rather than what other democrats or republicans think.
