We all have weird quirks that are fairly uncommon, to say the least. For the fear of being judged, we keep these weird things to ourselves; however, that doesn't stop us from being curious about what others have to hide.
So, to indulge in this secret knowledge, X (formerly Twitter) user @drakesbrother started a thread asking people to share their bad habits, weird confessions, and interesting things they do. The thread was quickly flooded with the strangest habits.
Turns out, lots of us have funny habits that make perfect sense to us but might seem odd to others. Something like when someone has to read the last page of a book before they can start it from the beginning. One thing’s clear: what seems like quirky habits to some of us is just another day in the office for others.
Some confessed to measuring how long something will take in songs, others said that each time they get in their car, they make sure no one is sitting in the back seat. While some of these weird things to do sound a little bit odd, let’s not pretend you don't relate.
Scroll below for the list of confessions from regularly weird people, and don't forget to share your own strange habits in the comments.

Impulsive Thoughts About Babies
This is incredibly common. Everyone does this, actually. Intrusive thoughts. I tend to think “how much can I key this car”.
I think the border between sane and insane is merely to put such thoughts to action. Having them is normal, if not even creative.
Load More Replies...this is related to the so called "call of the void" where you're like "what if i just jumped off this bridge right now"
I hear that call so often these days. Call of the void....now I know what to call it. Thx!!!
Load More Replies...this is a physiological phenomenon called cognitive dissonance, and it has to do with your brain having to deal with ambiguity. known less formally as the high place effect(this is more commonly used to explain why people get the urge to jump off cliffs) explains that when your survival instincts just sort of shut off, also known as anti-survival
Mine is when I'm on a long car trip and I think to myself "I wonder what would happen if I just jerk the wheel to the right as hard and as fast as I can while going 80 MPH"
Same! Not with babies, but when I am driving I wonder what would happen if I just let go of the wheel.
Exactly. I'm doing like 120 km/h and sometimes can't shake off the feeling of: "Like if I just moved my hands slightly to the right I could kill us all." Can't say I like the feeling...
Load More Replies...I have crazy irrational thoughts like that too, like in a work meeting i might think "what if i just threw my coffee at someones head right now",, speeding along in a car and i will think "imagine i just opened the door now" it's odd but i totally get this.
Sometimes I'll be talking to someone and think "What if I just punched them?" Intrusive thoughts, man.
lol I used to have those thoughts about my own baby ! lol Don't worry he's 11 now.
Mine is 18, but I did too....though I've actually had this dark passenger whispering in my ear since I was a child. :-(
Load More Replies...What if turned my steering wheel really hard and drove off this extremely high bridge?
Intrusive thoughts. I never knew what to call this phenomenon, or that lots of people have them. So glad to know this.
Yes me too! like just scrollin' BP on ur phone then ur just like "what if i chucked this into the Misissippi?"
I always think about what would happen if I just randomly raised my hand in class and told my teacher she was fat. The weird part is, she isn't even fat!
Lol same the first thought I have when I meet someone is "how long would it take to strangle them...."
Or knowing for sure, even though you are the only critter with hands in a mile radius around you, that if you stick your hand down the kitchen disposal to retrieve a spoon it will turn on anyway..
This never happens to me...and now that I know how often these things occur to other people, I'm absolutely terrified.....
The call of the void (standing on the brink and contemplating what happens if you jump).
Or I wonder how tight I can hug him/her!! You just want to squeeze them to death!!
I can't carry a hammer through the house for this exact reason! I impulsively want to smash something. But not a baby. Honest.
Thank god and OP! I'm not alone and not a complete psycho, apparently. Never follow through though.
I have these thoughts as well, it just seems so easy to do something in a second or a few seconds with life-time consequencies. And I have the thoughts what would happen if I just put my hand in fire or walk from the audience to a famous person during the interview or just black out in the audience.
I think of doing something crazy like going into a grocery store when it's closed and just make a huge mess. Open stuff, throw it everywhere, slide all around the floors. Just going crazy.
“What if if I jumped off this mountain” yes I have thought this while hiking before
wait it’s not just me? so would ypu say you also do this with imaginary sitcheations like moi?
I'll be riding my motorcycle down the road and wonder what it would be like to swerve my bike into oncoming traffic.
That sometimes happens to me too. Once, when I was at a birthday party there were ice cubes and soda, and I wondered, "If i put an ice cube in the hot tub, how long would it take to melt?"
"What If..." some of humanities best and worst moments. A breath away of just doing the wrong thing. You and every human ever.
Obsessive compulsive disorder is "responding" to these thoughts, either trying to dispel them, or reassuring yourself somehow that you're "good". This leads to completing physical or mental rituals. This comes from having a fundamental conflict with yourself, non acceptance etc. Source: obsessive compulsive sufferer.
During a concert: what if I just fricking scream as loud as I can during the middle of a song??
I can't go out on really high bridges or balconies. I feel the void pulling me and am scared to death I might just jump. And no, I am not suicidal.
I have this weird desire to throw a flower pot from a high building on someone down below. my mom thinks I have violent tendency. so far haven't done it yet...YET.
I did that but thought what if I set him on fire. I was holding my nephew
I know exactly what you mean. Like someone else said, it's like getting a weird urge to jump from a high place - it's not like you actually want to, but your mind likes to play out the worst outcomes of situations as a primal survival technique. I still don't like these weird thoughts, but at least I know I'm not crazy lol
You need to google Joe Lycett. He is not only hilarious he has a stand up (can't remember which) where he says his spirit animal tells him to do things like, kick that toddle. His spirit animal is a Walrus. He is hell funny.
I get thoughts like that all the time. When I see a truck or bus I imagine jumping in front of it. I don’t actually want to though.
The difference is reason, logic and morals they mean you think it, but don’t do it
exactly, i have ocd and even if consciously I would never do such things, my mind keeps going on with "yeah ok but what if...."
Load More Replies..."The call of the void" is when you want to turn into oncoming traffic, but you don't.
OMG. I can TOTALLY relate. My whole life is like Ally McBeal (who's old enough to remember it?) where I behave perfectly appropriately whilst imagining completely random behaviour. The most routine vision is sitting through an excruciatingly dull (normal) business meeting only to then leap onto the board room table, make animal noises and kick everyone's paperwork and laptops off, before running out of the room OR, sitting back down and acting as though nothing happened. Hmmmm. Maybe shouldn't admit to that.
there are other people("adults") i'd love to push out a window/off a balcony/down some stairs/into traffic,etc.
Call me boring I head deamons on things not "clearly killing others",also I cannot wrap around it. I have strong thoughtsand disbelieves in myself, others have to figure out by themselves. Even if I keep question why they are alive. Don't get me wrong, I also hate everybody's else kid and annoying grannies, but there are limits to everything. Even stretch has it's limits

Does anyone else feel guilty or like a criminal when walking out of a store without buying anything? :)
I do every time. And when I pass a cop. Even if I’m completely innocent!

You are not alone, my boyfriend does that. We got used to it... "Have I been talking to you in my head again?"
Load More Replies...Have you ever spelled out a word and then thought it looked like you spelled it wrong, and if you keep thinking about it too long you start to wonder if that's even really a word at all?
Yeah, me too. Also when you repeat a word too many times. I think this is called semantic satiation.

I used to catch myself counting my steps or the degrees on a stairway while walking. I sometimes counted to 15 or 20 without even noticing. Took me years to realize that I did it much more when I was bothered with a problem in my life or disturbed by something. SO, now, when I catch myself doing it, I am disturbed by searching what is disturbing me... (facepalm) Luckily, hasn't happened in months, but it's really annoying when it comes back.
Same, 17 in my house. I don't like it because 17 is a prime number.
Load More Replies...I count everything, all day by 4s. I mentally trace windows, doors, carpet tiles, etc with my eyes and always in pattern of 4. I struggle eating off round plates because I need them to have 4 sides. Traditional sandwich bread is great, round rolls are torture.
I count everything by 5s also! Every step I count has to end on five or a multiple of it, I count shadows and cars that way too as I pass them. When I eat I try to do so by ending it by a bite that ends up being a multiple of 5. It drives my friends crazy cause I'll they'll notice when I do that stuff but I can't help it.

If I can feel my clothes (like if I can feel the band of underwear or something) it freaks me out. If one sleeve or pant is tighter, it freaks me out. I’ve had crying fits because it bothers me so much. Guess I’m just weird :)... Also, if someone breathes on me, I have to “breathe out” the feeling caught in my throat. It feels like there’s something in my neck! I consistently chew my nails if I see the White ends, because that’s not symmetrical.
Sounds like you may have sensory processing disorder, especially since your reactions are excessive. My mom is the same but with foam and cotton wool is the worst. Someone thought it was funny to chase her with some and she ended up running across 6 lanes of traffic. Don’t worry she didn’t get hit by any cars thankfully.

A lot of these are signs of possible treeatable mental illnesses so if you do some of this stuff --To the point that it causes you distress or interferes with your schedule, social life, happiness, or career--- you might be able to be helped by a visit to a doctor. You're not crazy, you just have a very common medical issue that therapy and sometimes medication can help, making you happier and more yourself.
I think about really freaky s**t. Like, in a perfectly normal day, I will suddenly think, "Oh, what if I took this ax and chopped my hand off?"
Sometimes when I go to stores like Target or REI or something I like to imagine what it would be like to live there like what I would eat and where I would sleep and stuff. Weird?
When going home from an unfamiliar place I use the Maps app for directions. I'll stop a conversation with a passenger when "she" speaks so as not to appear rude for talking over "her", even if I'm close to home and know where I'm going. Does anyone else do this?
I count tiles in bathrooms while I pee, and pisses me off if they arent an even number smh
The thoughts in my head have different accents depending on what I've been watching recently. For example, if I've been watching too much spansh videos by the same youtuber, my thoughts start having spanish accent (or brittsh, or chilean, etc.) , or even the youtuber's voice.
I always have a kill order of people in a given space. (former Marine)
When I wash my face I always do it part by part like first the left side of my face then the other. This is because I just want to make sure nothing( ghosts?) gets me when my eyes are closed!
OH man, I am so afraid to look in the mirror after sticking my head near the sink to wash my face. Too many horror movies. I do it anyway, and then think, "yeah! nothing got me."

I do a few strange things that nobody not even my family knows about. 1. Whenever Im alone or no ones looking, Ill run up the steps like a dog tho i imagine myself as a wolf when I do it. 2. I can't sleep without the door and bedroom closet closed. 3.I speak to myself whenever Im shopping or just by myself. I will speak Gibberish by myself too.
I don't think I've ever slept with the bedroom door closed. I'd feel trapped, enclosed. If the door is open, I can hear if there are any weird noises elsewhere in the house.

This sounds like something a Gen Z kid would do.

I always try to make a plan to the little moments. For example, yesterday I was on the bus and I had 3 bags and was sitting and before I get off the bus I had planned how will I get the bags without my pants getting lower and showing my butt, how will I get up and hit the button for the bus to stop and how will I hold the bags till I get off so that I won't do any weird thing and be a fool of myself in front of so many people around. I have to be prepared. Also in the mini market or supermarket I always have the money counted and seen where they are and always try to be prepared when getting to the cashier cause I get anxious when I make more time and make others wait longer for me to get the money. So I just do things fast while I have already thought of the plan before getting to the cashier.
I say my dreams out loud. Even if I'm not the one speaking in the dream. I learned this when my friend came over and I kept her up all night! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE
I have this habit of hating touching the floor with bare skin. So I wear socks whenever I can, and my favourite sitting spots (because who uses a chair and bench when you can use the ground and get back problems) all have some form of blanket on them. I don't even know why but that's my way of life :P
I speak to people as if they have the context of what was going on in my head. Like I'll apologize for something that happened 3 years ago and then be like "Oh yeah, here's the backstory"
WHEN I WAS A CHILD I THOUGHT MULATO WAS LITERALLY A PERSON WHO WAS BLACK/WHITE SPLIT IN THE MIDDLE (LIKE THE CHARACTERS ON STAR TREK) I LOOKED IN VEIN EVERYWHERE FOR ONE AND OF COURSE NEVER SAW ONE.
My cousin heard my mom say someone was "half black, half white". My cousin assumed the same thing as you.
Load More Replies...it's comforting & nice to have confirmation that while we are all individuals, we can be the same when it comes to some of our quirks. we are who we are, and unless some of us are psycho killers (or other abhorrent criminals), it's all good!
When I go grocery shopping, I have to buy two of everything. Even if I only need one. Luckily it's the only thing I am compulsive about.
I sometimes swear when I sneeze (BITChOOO!), and I mumble to myself, like, all the time. And I find myself becoming more grouchy and offensive as I get older, as well as less hesitant to insult people with weird insults - a couple days ago I called someone a 'f*****g potato'.
I tend to do/buy things in even numbers. My favourite number is 24 (no surprise there, I suppose) so anything that is close to 2, 4 and 8 is preferable. Like it's almost impossible for me to buy three tomatoes. I'm trying really hard not to let it slip because I really don't want to spiral into an OCD (I know that it's a terrible condition and nothing to make fun of). But sometimes it's really not easy.
Sometimes, if I'm sitting in a room or somewhere bored the textures in the pant on the walls or in the tiles on the floors start to look like pictures of objects to me and I can construct a whole story in my head about it. For example, I was waiting in the doctor's office and in the texture on the wall it looked like a wolf, howling. Then a little off to the side and above it looked like a girl with a bow and arrow and in my head she was ready to shoot the wolf if he happened to notice her behind the trees, if needed,
I can't stand any regular noises like ticking of clock, etc. I dissociate immediately and cannot focus at all on antyhing. Also can't sleep with such noises. And yes, I hear the ticking from a handwrist watch on the shelve 3 meters away. No can do :D
Anyone else have to do things in doubles or evenly? Like if I have an itch on my left leg I have to scratch my right leg in the exact same spot for the same amount of time.
I had very strong symmetry-OCD when I was young. I felt so very uncomfortable if for instance my arm touched the wall, so I had to touch something with the same spot on my other arm as well, to stop feeling lopsided. It got to an unhealthy point where I would just constantly be touching stuff to feel balanced again, or avoiding touching anything so I wouldn't have to balance it afterwards. My parents taught me not to give into it, and to just accept the lopsided feeling for a bit, and to notice that after a few seconds or minutes the feeling will go away on it's own. That really helped, nowadays I only have it when a physical sensation is really strong (like icecream that touches my lip), when I am really stressed, or when something reminds me of symmetry-OCD, then it comes back for a few minutes.
Load More Replies...If someone invites me to hang out, I will bring a torch, measuring tape, paper, pens, rubber bands and sometimes a stick. They often get confused, since it's just going to the park at midday. <3
My husband and I have a weird little routine (really it's just saying I love you in a particular way, real cute and s**t) before we go to bed and if we fall asleep without doing it, I either wake up in the middle of the night in a panic or I will wake up the next day and feel super weird and guilty. I also will not leave the house without counting my cats to make sure they are there and not trapped in a closet or something weird. It all comes down to my anxiety, really.
If I’ve got headphones on in a public washroom, I need to take one side off. That way I can hear if the person beside me needs toilet paper or something ...
Every time i go in a dark room, i have to turn on a light to illuminate it just enough that i can see the light local to the room, for example, i'll turn on a hallway light to see into the office.
When I am by myself and get tired while driving, I talk gibberish and make weird faces to keep myself alert.
If I'm standing near someone and we are having a conversation if my mind wanders when I come back I always feel like "well I probably need to kiss them now" Male or Female it doesn't matter. I've never done it but a wierd feeling none the less.
Whenever I leave the house, I check my pockets for the things I need for the day by patting them. Wallet, check. Lip balm, check. Phone, check. And when I'm driving, keys, check.
That's hardly unusual. I'm sure most people do that.

Load More Replies...If I'm alone and I'm watching a movie, and someone has a reaction, either strong or inaccurate, I'll react to in real life, expressions and everything. I'll copy the good reactions or make better the bad acting.
Load More Replies...If i'm home alone and doingmy makeup or something I'll pretend that I'm a youtuber I'll be like "So I do my eyebrows with wet 'n' wild eyebrow powder, which is really good you have oily skin, like me because it won't rub off like I experienced with gel makeup" Or I'll play a song on youtube and pretend I'm performing at a concert like I'll say "This one is called Love it if we made it, by the 1975, a cover by yours truly because this song is amazing" and scream all of it
This sounds like something a Gen Z kid would do.

Load More Replies...I enjoy doing yoga in the morning, but I always watch documentaries about (some might think) "disturbing topics" , this morning: British documentary about psychopaths brains. Yesterday: Americas youngest sex offenders. Day before that: Sexcults (Old VHS recordings of serial killers always works!!) I cant sleep if I haven't watered my plants during the day. (I can hear them scream!!) I hate to eat in public if I need to wear shoes. (Yes I am single)
I like to walk on narrow curbs as fast as I can without looking down to practice balance. Who knows when will I need it? Usless talent number 10.
When I see a stone or a marble in the road or the sidewalk I like to hit it with my leg like Iam playing soccer with a mini ball
I have a veeeery strange habit of smell the sewers (and it's crazy how much I actually like that odour). I don't like foul odours like rotten stuff, puke or poo individually, but the mixing of all of those in the sewers is strangely soothing for me 🙈
I will sit and have convos with characters from my fave TV shows in my head
I forget to blink. I know its weird. I just have to think about blinking in order to do it.
actually, everyone blinks, just sometimes we don't notice it
