I have Schziophrenia, and my cats, if they see that I am alone and having a moment where I'm freaking out, it's like they know to come and be by my side, meowing at me, and nudging against me for attention etc, as if they know that it will snap me out of it, and honestly? A lot of the time it does. Most humans wouldn't do that if they saw someone having an attack like that in the street, I can say that for certain.

You have a good point. In most cases, and depending on their experience of people, animals are pretty adept at knowing who’s a good person and who’s not. Even the ones who were abused or feral, and have never had positive experiences with people (or at least not since they were tiny babies), can become quite affectionately bonded to a person/family/neighborhood if treated lovingly.

Yup. My cats are the sweetest, friendliest creatures one could possibly imagine. But they do have claws and teeth and I'm sure they could defend themselves quite competently if provoked. We don't mistreat them, so they don't mistreat us.

my dad hates cats but he's a great person. i like cats myself tho and think they're awesome. respect other people's opinions please, and if they disagree, don't just assume that they're a bad person.

Cats are one of the top killers of small birds and animals.

I have had many cats over the years, but never have I considered any of them "kind".

Cat's are only mean when they are frightened and then they could do you considerable damage. My rescue was so traumatised in her previous place that she first endeared herself to me by ripping my hand open and then hiding in my wardrobe for three days. Fortunately I know cats. We are now best friends. Also she overgroomed through trauma and had virtually no fur on her tummy. I have had her nearly five years now and it is just starting to grow back. Bless her.

I've also observed that men who DESPISE cats vehemently are abusers. That's from 4+ decades of observation

I love cats BECAUSE they are little assholes. You are out of your mind if you think that all cats are inherently nice.

I'm allergic to cats. I don't want one to come near me. I don't hate them, I just don't want to deal with a snot fountain coming out of my face. Somehow, though, cats will come to me and rub against my legs. If I'm sitting on a couch with another person who wants to pet the cat, the cat will come to me, not the other person. I will gently shoo the cat away with my foot, but the cat still come back again and again. Why?

I have 6 cats. It's not extreme at all. I'm sick of people hating cats. They just don't understand them. Not one of my cats scrached or bitten anyone ever.

No need to make such sweeping generalizations. I more often hear cat people saying that they hate dogs and not the other way around especially on the internet tbh. I am solidly a dog person and not because I like to "control" my dog and I don't like being around people who are like that with any animal. Super controlling people usually don't have pets cause animals don't always listen. Never dated a control freak that actually had any mammalian pets just reptiles.

Not at all. I am not a cat person, not because I don't love them, I do. But I do not like the way they will kill wild animals. Or bring them in injured and play with them. I know it is nature, but it is not for me. So yes, I am a dog person, not a cat person. Nothing to do with control.

A cat loves you on it's own terms, a dog loves you unconditionally and slightly needy. Compare and contrast the typical animal reaction to you leaving the house and arriving home. (That's not to say cats dont suffer from separation anxiety, but it's not the norm). In my experience, people who hate cats tend to be the one who want to control the pet they own, rather than having a loving companion (again this is not all "dog people", just the ones who actively *hate* cats)

I disagree. Either you have never had a cat love you, or you are not good at interpreting their bodylanguage. I used to have some cats that I had a strong bond with, and you could clearly tell they were very attached to me (and my boyfriend). For example, they used to constantly follow me around the house, try to sit on my lap whenever I sat down, 'knead' on me, give headbumps, stare in my eyes lovingly while purring etc. To me those behaviors speak volumes!

True, I always wonder why people don't get that if you're gonna act stupid and annoy a cat, they will reciprocate.. besides, i've observed that they usually "fire a warning shot across the bow" so to speak, before an all out attack.
