It’s no secret that frightening or shocking stories often receive a lot of attention, hence the popularity of true crime movies or TV series such as ‘You’. But while the latter, for example, gained quite a few fans who were binge watching it safely behind the screen, no one would actually want to come face to face with a stalker.
Sometimes, though, one doesn't even have to come face to face with one, as they can turn to technology to disturb the peace of their victims from afar. On the list below you will find some examples of stalkers doing exactly that, using messages to haunt their targets, that show just how creepy dealing with a stalker is, especially when you know that it’s no TV series.
Below you will also find Bored Panda’s interview with a prosecutor and public speaker, Wendy L. Patrick, who was kind enough to answer a few of our questions about stalking.

So OP is the stalker, if you dig a bit. BUT still. If his identity is to be revealed the correct way is to report to police and they contact the flower shop. The staff has no way of determinating what is what in that mess. They give the number to someone calling randomly isnt ethical and depending on country possibly illegal.

I just looked it up and as far as I can tell, yes, giving out a customer's information without explicit permission IS illegal as it violates their personal privacy. Not only can they sue the person who did it, they can also sue the company. Quota had a perfect example of a business giving out a customer's information. If that information was given to a stalker and the customer was then injured or killed because of it, the store is liable. Of course this doesn't apply to law enforcement investigating a crime.

I had a experience that started like that. My stalker sent a message that he was about to commit suicide, expecting me to come running to help. I did the sensible thing and called 112, explaining that I suspected it to be a false alarm but I didnt want the responsibility in case he meant it. They had a police patrol nearby his place and sent officers to the adress. He had opened the door in nice clothes,house filled with rose petals, candle lit dinner for two on the table, soft music.. Two pissed off cops was not what he wanted. They had yelled at him, saying if he ever harassde me again they would haul him off to a psyc ward for evaluation. The police calling me back laughed when he told me how it unfolded. Creep never contacted me again.

It’s safe to assume that the thought of stalkers alone sends shivers down many people’s backs; having someone watching your every single move is disturbing, at the very least. However, for many people, it is a nightmare that has unfortunately come true.
According to the Stalking Prevention, Awareness, and Resource Center (SPARC), an estimated 13.5 million people are stalked in a one-year period in the US, with women becoming the targets more frequently than men.

In school, band members had to perform solos at "contest". Each solo required piano accompaniment. Several teens/young adults volunteered each year. So the band director randomly assigned a pianist to each person, and then announced that person's phone number. At the time, we only needed the last number of the city code, so basically we just had to know the last four digits. Having nothing to write with at the time, I memorized the four digits. I told myself that number constantly during band, and on and off the rest of the day. It took a SERIOUS mental effort. To force yourself to memorize a nine or ten digit number? Especially if a random stranger? This incel is, so far, the scariest to me.

“Although many victims know their stalkers, and many are in fact people with whom they have had relationships, other cases involve stranger stalking where the victims don’t know if the stalkers are on the other side of the world, or a cubicle on the other side of their office floor,” Wendy Patrick told Bored Panda in a recent interview.

I just had an awful memory unlocked. When I was in tenth grade there was this boy who I barely knew who was just in love with me. I had maybe one class with him and never spoke to him unless it was to tell him to leave me alone. He physically repulsed me. At the end of the year he sent a big bouquet of flowers to my house with a card asking me for a date. My mom thought it was wonderful and made me go. She said it was “just a date”. So I was forced to go to a movie with him. We saw Fatal Attraction funnily enough. We moved away that summer, thank God, so I never had to see him again. It’s been more than thirty years since I’ve thought of this and it makes me feel physically sick to remember it. I remember how helpless I felt when I was forced to go in that date because it would be mean not to. I cannot imagine the nightmare my life would have been if we had social media and cellphones back then.

Two-in-three stalkers, according to SPARC, pursue their victims at least once a week; some even do it daily, arguably making the lives of their victims a living hell. And while the scenario is hair-raisingly frightening, there’s more than enough content based on it, from the aforementioned TV series, ‘You’, to one of the classics in the music world, “Every Breath You Take” by The Police, which, in case you didn’t know, was a story from a stalker’s perspective.
Back in 1983, one of the band’s members, Sting, said “I think it’s a nasty little song, really rather evil. It’s about jealousy and surveillance and ownership,” summing up the song, which could be considered somewhat romantic, if you didn’t bear in mind the backstory.

What beats me is until they start getting proper help, most stalkers don't think they are stalking. They often don't have close relationships so those in their peripheral lives either believe them when they say they have a gf/bf or often think they are lying and that the person doesn't even exist.

I was friends with a person I met in a dive group. He was having a hard time dealing with a break-up, I wasn't working due to a 4 month recovery from surgery, so I was the person he talked to. I started noticing that for every action he did, it was someone else's fault. "You made me..." "I wouldn't have done X if you hadn't done Y." Long story short, dude was completely narcissistic and had underlying mental issues that he refused to get help for because he's not "mental." The behavior was scary.

I once had a stalker bring his daughter to my work to meet me. Not the main reason i moved country, but there was definite relief when I wasn't worried he'd show up. I didn't even know I was still worried about it until I moved and didn't have to.
