If you haven’t experienced a motorcycle creeping up behind your back and unleashing a deafening roar, you don’t know what fear is. The anguish and distress that shocks your body immediately afterward makes you feel the same as you would when staring at certain death.

But no matter how many of our nerve cells bikers kill, they do this nonsense over and over and over and over again. Why? A couple of months ago, YouTube comedy channel Genuine Jerks answered this question. They released a video called ‘How motorcyclists think people react when they drive by…‘ and so far, it’s the best explanation to this mystical phenomenon.

YouTube comedy channel Genuine Jerks finally gave us an explanation of how motorcyclists think people react when they drive by

This is just one of many funny videos the gang has made. Genuine Jerks is a fast-paced, live and video sketch group with Brett Maline, Ryan Hughes, Emily Pendergast, Lucas Hill, Kelsi Roberts, Laura Keller, and Michael Strassner. They have already performed at UCB Sunset, UCB Franklin, Groundlings Mainstage, Comedy Central Stage, and others. Their videos have been featured on The Today Show, Good Morning America, and are mainstays on the front page of Funny or Die.

Genuine Jerks came up with the idea for the video when Brett and Lucas were working on their material and a loud motorcycle zoomed by. “We both started to sarcastically yell about how dope it was,” Brett Maline told Bored Panda. “Then we wrote the sketch. And to be honest, on paper, not funny. Honestly, I don’t know how the sketch got [so popular] but we are very grateful.”

None of the Genuine Jerks drive motorcycles, so they came together “through our equal distaste for the noise they make”. As you might’ve guessed, making this video was somewhat cathartic for us so it’s been dope to see motorcyclists get in the comments and admit they’re loud,” Brett explained. “The outpour of millions of Americans empathizing with us on motorcycle noise awareness has been nothing short of fulfilling.”

Of course, not every motorcycle owner is like this. And if you want to buy one, don’t let this video stop you. Even if you’re 45. In fact, some researchers think that there’s no such thing as a midlife crisis, and that falling apart and putting yourself back together again, possibly in a different way, is not something that is more likely to happen when you are between 45 and 55 than it is at any other age.

So if you want to spend the kids’ inheritance on a sporty motorbike, go right ahead. You have every right to enjoy what time you have left.

During the quarantine, Genuine Jerks released their newest conceptual pilot Hypocrite, that’s based on Brett’s experiences living with Klippel Feil syndrome, a rare form of severe scoliosis. “Also, every Tuesday night at 7 pm PST, you can catch us live on our channel hosting The Late Great Show, a talk show with special guests, live music, and genuinely jerky content.”

I have to admit that when I was a teenager I would drive around with the radio pumped up thinking people would respond by thinking, "Wow, those are some cool songs that guy is playing!" Maybe it's something to do with testosterone that makes people think that other people are impressed with the annoying things they do.

Ah elderly lady (~75) in a cool convertible drives by my street every day with super loud good music and I think "Wow, those are come cool songs that lady is playing!", I really think testosterone is not her case

One of my biggest peeves is when a, most commonly Harley, goes wiping down the street full throttle and rattles the windows. If it were a car in need of a muffler they would be ticketed but not the cyclist. All that noise is a scream "look at meeee, Look at meee"

Same as people who drive cars in an idiotic fashion, do they really think people are fawning over them just cause they drive fast or spin their wheels while pulling away, personally I just think it is sad!

Here in the UK we call H-D's tractors due to their rather agricultural build and ride quality compared to the European and Japanese bikes that most people over here ride. I ride a motorcycle but it is certainly not loud and unlike H-D riders I don't ride to look cool or to pose, I ride because I love riding. H-D sell mediocre bikes to middle aged guys who want to be part of a motorcycle "lifestyle" that doesn't really exist except in their own imagination, all dressing alike and riding similar bikes to show how "individual" they are. Over here, real bikers don't ride Harley's.

I don't care at all. All day long. I might say in my head, "idiot", but I really don't care. I live on main Street in a small rural town. Speed limit is 25 mph. What I can't stand is at night several times a week when these jack wagons go flying through town at 3am reving as loud as they can and wake up my 4 children. You aren't doing it so other drivers are aware of your presence.

Big same here. I also can't stand the modified cars who are loud to get attention. Ugh. Looking forward to moving to a quieter street soon. Whoo hoo -_-

I don't really like super loud bikes but I do like it when I can hear them when I'm driving, especially on the freeway. For me it's a safety thing.

Firstly, please don't confuse Harley Owners as motorcyclist, they are not. I am not sure exactly what they are, but its got something to do with a lot of body hair and flinging poo. What do motorcyclist think of what others think? We don't.... But what to we call other roads uses? Lapped traffic.

There are several of those idiots where I live. One of them must be working at a bar and in the middle of the night, after closing, this nut with a big bike without mufflers sits at the red light on the corner revving the engine as though he'd get paid a million for it. The other idiot has invented a sport for himself where, also in the middle of the night, he accelerates to way above the speed limit and drives as close as he can to two of the cars that are usually parked in the street during the night and sets off the alarm in both cars. I am sure that he has found out by trial and error which cars have extra sensitive alarm systems. Damn them both!

I hate the loud try is too. Can't even have a conversation when they are next to you at a red ljght. There is an apartment complex diagonally from me and this one old truck friend out my tv when it goes by. And I have a pretty big front yard, lots of space between my house And the street.

Only extremely insecure people need their vehicle to announce their presence from half a mile away. Whenever I hear a loud bike or car behind me, I laugh a merry laugh and mock them out loud. The little bobos who drive loud cars and pretend they're fast are hilarious. They see me in my quiet car that looks like it just drove out of the showroom and have no idea that it's tuned to within an inch of its life and I could blow past them in an instant and leave them sobbing in the dirt.

There's quite a difference between normally loud motorcycles and obnoxiously loud (usually modified for that purpose). The video and many comments seem not to know the difference. Incredibly needlessly loud motorcycles are a pain, but ppl seem to complain about normal ones as well.

If it doesn't make too much noise, people won't notice. If a in your book so called normal bike gets comments, it's probably because the noise is not so normal as you think.

Uneducated public. A 2 into 1 unbaffled no catalytic exhaust bumps power tremendously. As more air is "scavenged" it allows more air flow, thus, torque is increased. This pretentious comedy group has no clue who we are and why we ride. If they want to do a service announcement for public safety I suggest the stoners/alchys killing people. Or the vanity twits thinking they can text n drive. If I'm too loud,,,, screw you and your tailgating, rearview makeup elbo driving asses.
