Humans are inherently social animals, so you can’t help but wonder where the root of this evil behavior is. Well, some scientists believe that lack of empathy might be to blame. Simon Baron-Cohen, professor of developmental psychopathology at the University of Cambridge, believes that empathy determines how we interact with others. He explains: “Empathy is our ability to identify what someone else is thinking or feeling, and to respond to their thoughts and feelings with an appropriate emotion.” Those who lack this ability see others as mere objects, and as a result, don’t feel for them.

Some people confuse empathy with sympathy when, in reality, those are two very different things. Psychology Today defines sympathy as “understanding another person's situation but viewed through your own lens. That is, it's based on your version of what the other person is dealing with.” That’s how some people experience love—they sense their own affectionate feelings rather than the reality with another person.
Meanwhile, empathy requires to step outside and put yourself in the shoes of another person. “There, without abandoning or losing your own perspective, you can experience the other's emotions, conflicts, or aspirations from within the vantage point of that person's world.” This is precisely the connection that builds healthy mutual relationships among humans.

Celebrities Are People Too
You're not entitled to pictures with anyone. Sometimes a celebrity is nice and might take a moment out of their understandably busy days to take a picture with you, but that should be treated as a special case. Terry seems to be one of the nicest celebrities and he's a father first and foremost
That’s Just Being A Jerk
I know someone like this and I absolutely hate them. I don't want to ever invite them for anything but I gotta since that would mean singling them out. EDIT: clarification: this person has a lot of kids and I know they're struggling to feed them so will use anyone's kindness whenever Free Food was mentioned, thus why I can't really singling them out. I still don't like how they're taking advantage of me so openly though.

Daycare Worker Wrote A Note On A Baby's Stomach To Shame His Mom Into Packing More Diapers
The worker has been fired.
That person should not be allowed to work in day care anymore. Matter should be taken to concerned authority.
A young child cannot consent to being written on, and in no way can this be seen as beneficial or essential to the well being of the child. (You could actually argue the opposite)
Load More Replies...This is not the actions of a professional. They should not be working with children.
This is unacceptable, for sure. However, just for future reference, baby oil will help remove marker.
So does milk - it's a natural AHA which removes dead skin cells and gets rid of things like hair dye or permanent marker on skin.
Load More Replies...? Why is everybody so upset about using markers on a child?? I did this to myself when I was a kid. It actually comes off with a thick layer of nappy cream, just let it sit for a while. Now, it's really not ok to do that, but imo it's also not a reason for the vengeful hysteria, I read in some comments.
Are you kidding?! Her response is beyond reasonable people taking liberties with a child that isn't theirs is an unacceptable thing especially when it's your job to care for the child. It's passive aggressive at best horribly unprofessional and done with the obvious intent of humiliating the mother.
Load More Replies...This is wrong. Having worked in childcare the centre always has spare nappies in the mean time, perhaps better communication is needed
This is so beyond out of line. Please tell me this worker was fired.
So they did this before and you still take him there and don't read the report ??
They could have told them or left a note in their cubby. Hell or write in the diaper it's self. I can't believe they wrote on the child, what terrible day care staff
They did that a lot of times but the mother ignored it. That does not make it ok to write on the kid but she had received several notes.
Load More Replies...My assumption is that this daycare provider has had to take up the slack for an inattentive mother on many occasions and these are the drastic measures to get her attention unless they want to foot the bill for extra supplies time and time again.
Please report them to your state department that governs day cares. If they do nothing, go to your local TV news station. This is inexcusable! And you're prob not the only parent to receive a message thusly, so please report it. I predict you'll have some number of other parents jump in who are equally outraged. Find them yourself if you go to the news station. They'll jump at a bigger story. Good luck! Have you found a new daycare yet??
its not negligent, that would be leaving the kid in a s****y diaper and not changing him
Load More Replies..."THE BEST PART??? THEYVE DONE THIS BEFORE." then whyyyyyyyyy bring him back to the same place smh
This is definitely abuse. Call her employer the police child services whoever you can to get this psycho charged / arrested. That and why isn't there emergency back up diapers there incase they run out? Not set up well there at all
If you know they leave messages then why are you not reading them. It could be important. Drop off and pick up times are busy with many parents showing at the same time.
To me it doesn't seem that bad. It's not really professional, but it's harmless and a little funny. However if it upsets you, then let them know that it's not OK for them to communicate with you that way. I'd save the big confrontations for bigger issues.
I work in a nursery and this is unacceptable!! You are not over reacting! You need to tell the manager and get that person fired or report this to OFSTED or whatever childcare office set up you have in America.
Buy a great deal of diapers and have her notify you before you need to buy more. How would you feel if you ran out of diapers at home and needed more but you couldn't go to the store because you were already busy.
I'm guessing this isn't the first time you "missed" ignored notes & reports. Try harder.
I'm glad the person was fired, but just make sure your child has more than-enough diapers for the WEEK.
I would be furios.... This can't be healthy for the kid either. Find another daycare. Report them if you can... 😡
They are plain a******s. I have two kids and if that would have happened to any of them I'd have razed down the building for sure. Btw. they could have some extra diapers in stock for occassions like this. Change daycare if you have other options.
MOM is wrong. If the child got diaper rash, she'd be the first one to b***h that he wasn't changed enough!
I’ve worked in child care for over thirty years, 11 of them as a director. If this had happened at my center, a parent would have called the licensing agency on us. The staff person who did this would have absolutely been terminated and we would have been investigated the first time; there would not have been a second time. Also, yes, a parent is responsible for reading a daily report, but rather than place blame, we found solutions. In a case like this, we would have tackled this by perhaps attaching the reports in a secure place on the child’s bag so it couldn’t be missed. One cannot think of everything, however, a Parent Handbook, with your expectations and protocols, goes a long way to to protect both parties.
In many places writing on someone else's child would be considered a type of assault.
Mom is correct. Day care worker needs to fine either a better way to communicate or a new job. Take the photos to the day care center and show the operating manager. Suggest they speak to parents as often as possible and still hand out the reports.
Though the daycare worker was wrong to write on your child and they should have said something directly to you when you picked him up, if you can't be bothered to read the report of what your child did while someone else took care of him, then you share the blame. I get being a single mom (I am one myself), but taking 5 minutes out of your day to read a report that may contain important information about your child is important, no?
I would report them and sue! This is extreme cruelty and abuse.
well, I'm going to be the dissenting opinion here and I'm going to suggest that reading the report from your child's daily carer is important to do everyday.
First I was angry with the lax mother (SORRY). Now a message to the tired mother...SUE THE MOTHER F*****S!
Suppose the kid had a horrible anaphylactic reaction to the ink and died? THEN how funny would that be???
At least that worker was fired - He/she was lucky that he/she wasn't prosecuted for reckless endangerment of a child, as the ink in those pens can be toxic to young/sensitive skins.
You should not draw on kids. Telling the mom in person would have made more sense, instead of writing on her kid. im glad they got fired ngl
1. no you're not overacting 2. those people should not work for a daycare 3. how f**ked in the head do you have to be to do that to a child
Not only is the person who did that an a*****e, they are in all likelihood a criminal.
It would take an army to get me to not go to that daycare and beat the c**p out of this person . Seriously though, this is unacceptable.
TRUST ME, I have been in the industry. NO CHILD HANDLERS Would do it, UNLESS it would/ must needed to get at
What if the child had had an allergic reaction to the marker? Also, why would a daycare NOT have washable markers, and for that matter WHO THE HELL WRITES ON A CHILD?!?!?
i would 100% contact police. you can't do this to a child...twice!!
You are not wrong and i truly hope you walked into that daycare and tore a strip of the worker that did it and then a strip off the management! I would have been (and am) FURIOUS. If someone had done that to me and one of my kids there would have been HELL to pay and heads would roll LITERALLY!
Good that the worker was fired. Wondering sometimes what's going wrong with peoples mind
What gave this daycare worker the idea that writing on a child's stomach that they need diapers was okay? I am glad they were fired and they should be reported to the police.
Omg your son is Chris Matthews. And only drunk people should be written on with sharpies, not children!!!
Noooo! that Boy will forever be known as "Out of Diapers" as that marker will never fade away
Never fade away? Really? Your skin dies & falls off so you have a new layer every two weeks, & it certainly isn't tattooed on (thousands of precise needle pricks).

I remember a series of photos a while back that detailed the story of a large, white wall on one side of an otherwise decrepit building. It was initially "vandalized" with many creative, colorful, and stylized name-tag graffitis, but the owner soon painted over them. Then another artist took advantage of the newly-blank canvas and painted a gorgeous undersea mural. Within a week the owner painted over this, too. The final photo shows the result of this artist's angry second attempt to paint the wall, which was a crudely-written sentence reading, "this wall used to have art on it but now it is covered with c***s". Which it was, literally hundreds of them, scrawled in black spraypaint.

In this life, we are supposed to be decent and respectful human beings. However, many of these people showed that they either don't understand what that means or they don't care to understand. Treating other people's property and personal space with this level of disrespect can only lead to you being viewed in a negative light. Let's all try to be better people and stop doing inappropriate things just because we think that we are entitled.
