People Throwing Tantrums About Face Masks Get Edited Into A “Parks And Rec” Town Hall Meeting
Those who remember the TV series “Parks And Recreation” should know very well what the iconic town hall scenes were all about. Let me remind you real quick. From a lady complaining over a sammich found at the park which didn’t have mayo to a guy demanding more benches at a park ’cause he’d like to sit more, the locals of Pawnee were notorious for raging over quite absurd things.
But truth is stranger than fiction. You see, when residents of Palm Beach County, Florida blew up over a mandatory mask policy at a county commission meeting, it all just clicked. “We’re officially living in a Parks and Rec episode,” tweeted Lawrence Sharma with an absurdist video mashup showing the Palm Beach meeting as if it was a Pawnee town hall.
As you’d expect, the internet went crazy about it, and honestly, it’s hard to believe statements like “I don’t wear a mask for the same reason I don’t wear underwear: Things gotta breathe” weren’t scripted.

Last Tuesday, residents of Palm Beach County, Florida gathered at a county commission meeting to voice their displeasure over a new mandatory mask policy. The original footage of the fiery debate can be watched here.
Among many arguments laid out against mandatory mask policy, some included: “You literally cannot mandate somebody to wear a mask knowing that that mask is killing people,” and “They want to throw God’s wonderful breathing system out the door. You’re all turning your backs on it.”
People on Twitter soon shared their disbelief over just how similar the whole debate was to that portrayed in NBC’s comedy TV show “Parks and Recreation.” The mockumentary from the creators of “The Office” aired from April 9, 2009 to February 24, 2015, for 125 episodes, over seven seasons and gained a cult following. On Rotten Tomatoes, the show scored 93% and got 89% as an average audience score.

If you don't wear a mask in public, you're basically saying you don't care one bit about others. The mask is to protect them from you. millions of us who feel "fine" could be asymptomatic carriers. That's why people should just mask up, and quit being babies about it. We don't have a vaccine, and likely won't for at least a year or so.

Because the politicians made it political. Early on, one party's leaders called it a hoax and refused to wear masks or listen to the scientists and medical professionals. Once that idea got out, numb nuts jumped on the bandwagon and selfishly and illogically decided to make it about their constitutional rights - carrying around big guns to show they meant business. (big burly men with guns, but scared of a mask). They talked about it being some conspiracy to strip them of their freedom --- yeah like the whole world was in on it. And here we are, basking in stubborn stupidity.

It may have to do with the mythology of the USA as land of the free. To some people, that includes freedom from responsibility to others. My American relatives - who are responsible, community-minded people - are appalled by the covidiots. Here in Canada, plenty of people are careless, but I have yet to hear of Canadians framing masks as a political or religious issue.

And this is why as a British tourist, we've recently cancelled our holiday to Florida. Scheduled for October and already paid for (thankfully refundable) we're just a few months away. But there's not a chance on Earth we’re prepared to travel to anywhere populated by such f*****g idiots. We would have spent thousands of tourist dollars supporting the local economy but as they'll clearly take longer than most parts of the developed world to get the virus under control, it's so not happening. I simply cannot fathom the utter ignorance and arrogance that we’re seeing. It defies belief. Every life is precious, but one can’t help but wish these morons actually catch the virus and snuff it. Surely removing them from the human gene pool is actually doing humanity a favour?

God is to many everything they do not understand or do not want to understand. This virus and the measures needed are hard to comprehend to many individuals. You don't see it, you don't feel it, you could be transmitting it and killing your little old neighbor and have no clue it was you. The only thing these people really can understand is the discomfort of wearing a mask and the fear of not understanding what others do get. It's like putting everyone under a microscope to see very clearly how much thinking capacity is present.

One woman cited that masks would make it easier for pedophiles to prey on children. I appreciate her concern for children, but not her naivete. Plenty of pedophiles are able to gain the trust of children and even parents because they know better than to leer and drool.
