Bruce, that depends where they live. Some states have never had case numbers that required a mask mandate. My state has an indoor mask mandate currently. Your family should pick some masks up, just in case.

The UK is an island, with the worst Covid death rate in Europe. The Australian government saved them, not their location. Also Japan isn’t doing so great right now, not a great example of doing it right.

Interesting that Bruce Mills family does not own a mask considering they are now mandatory in shops, places of worship, gyms and most other indoor areas- at the risk of a fine... Sincerely- an Australian who DOES wear a mask

My family in Australia has never worn a mask. They dont even own them. They 'nailed it' by being an island.

Oh not die, but have it and recover so they know how others feel..

It's true about the innocents that will catch it, but Ozacoter, if you get your wish, there will be children without parents, and husbands/wives without spouses. Far better if they could be educated.

How will businesses stay open if their owners and mangers die or are handicapped because of COVID? People who are working, are dying. Teachers, health care workers, sales clerks, anyone who is unable to isolate. Are you helping businesses stay open by working there? Or do you just complain? Had you been paying attention, you would have seen how partial openings failed. All of our governments are trying to figure out how to stop the spread. Nothing has worked, mostly because so many people refuse to follow the guidelines. There is overwhelming evidence of how low-risk people's behavior continues to spread the disease. It is obvious you think you know better. Wake up! Learn what is happening around you. All over the world people are suffering through this for the sake of others. We, the sheep, are part of the solution and are helping you stay healthy. We follow the science and changing guidelines.You aren't paying attention, if you did you would realise you are part of the problem.

Only high risk get COVID? Are you kidding? The new strain hits mostly young healthy people. Back in March nobody wore masks. I had a mild case, only four days of absolute hell, followed by 10 days of being in bed sick, then eight weeks to be strong enough follow my normal workout schedule. I am not part of the statistics, but like others who were only mildly sick, I have long term consequences. Not being able to taste chocolate is the least of my worries.

- Some sources of information are better than others. My favorite is Reuters. Good solid international reporting. But it is just one source. I follow numerous sources, combine the information and decide for myself. Facts must be confirmed, one source is never enough. All news is biased. When combining information, I try to look at multiple points of view -- even from those I disagree with. I decide for myself, after proper research. Yes, I know young healthy people who have died. I hope none of you experience the same.

What do the high risk people do, then? Starve because they can't work?

Same thoughts here .. I am really angry for all the people that put money, energy and time to start their businesses and now they are broke and hopeless because of our gov incompetence. In my country the government is absolutely clueless, they act like they do not care about those people at all. One day close, then open, then close again .. no consistency, no plan, no anything. Protecting the risk groups is much better than nationwide measures that ruins too many people economically.

Thing is, "high risk for COVID" doesn't mean an invalid who can't work. These people could be working and contributing to the economy. Why make them into impoverished charity cases? Just because you can't be bothered to wear a mask?

Uncommon Boston, don't assume I don't care. I voluntarily quit my job when my company had to start cutting jobs because my husband is in the military, with a guaranteed paycheck. I knew there were others there you really needed the money. We also asked all of our relatives to donate whatever they planned to spend on us for Christmas to their local food bank. We spent our entire $1583 saved-up Christmas money on local charities, and we continue to give $400 a month, which we purposefully budgeted into our spending while we eat a lot of beans and rice. So don't think you know me just because I don't believe in quarantining healthy people so that their future is destitution.

Lara Mig, I appreciate your compassion, and hopefully these people have family, friends, churches, and communities helping to look after them. But there isn't one government program that doesn't have someone fall through the cracks. That's why it's so important for individuals to step in and help those you know who need it. I just don't think disrupting the economy is the answer.

Uncommon Boston, who do you personally know who has died, or are you just upset because social media and news outlets are claiming this? How much of what you hear reported on the news is something you have actually witnessed with your very own eyes? Don't assume that what you are hearing is the truth, look for yourself at you own life experiences. I don't know anyone who has died who was under 65 and didn't already have health issues. You are allowed to think for yourself, you do not have to drink the Kool-aide.
