If you’re an avid social media user, it’s quite likely that you have blocked a person or two on certain platforms, maybe even have been blocked yourself. And there can be hundreds of reasons for that, from someone being rude or creepy, to being in a fight, among numerous other scenarios.

Chances are, the people with the longest ‘blocked’ list are those with the biggest following, who are often celebrities. But despite being regularly put on the pedestal or having millions of fans, they’re only human, too, which means they might also block you if you do something they don’t like.

Members of the ‘Ask Reddit’ community recently opened up about what they did that got them blocked by certain celebrities. Ranging from jokes gone wrong to misunderstandings, and beyond, some of their stories are rather amusing, so if you want to see what can get you blocked by someone famous, continue reading to find out.

If you scroll down, you will also find Bored Panda’s interview with a social media expert, Part-time Faculty in Marketing at Mike Ilitch School of Business at Wayne State University, Nick Mattar, who was kind enough to answer a few of our questions.

30 Times People Messed With Celebrities Enough To Get Blocked Not a celebrity, but the Head and Shoulders twitter account blocked me because I tweeted them every day for a month asking why they don't have a foot wash line called "Knees and Toes".

I still don't understand why they don't!

30 Times People Messed With Celebrities Enough To Get Blocked I told Ted Cruz to sit on a cactus on Twitter years ago. He blocked me and then my account got banned. I appealed it with just “Come on guys it’s Ted Cruz” and to my surprise they unbanned me.

If you don't want people talking massive sh*t about you every day, then don't go into politics. It's not a profession for people with thin skins.

30 Times People Messed With Celebrities Enough To Get Blocked I was blocked by Lufthansa for asking if they had in flight waffles, and if they called them "Luftwaffles".

“There are many reasons a celebrity might block a ‘regular person’ on social media. But the one thing people tend to forget is that celebrities are people, too,” Nick Mattar told Bored Panda in a recent interview.

“The only difference is that they live their lives under a microscope for all to see and critique. When a celebrity sees something they find objectionable or they otherwise don’t want to see, they may block the user regardless of their status as a ‘regular person’.”

Osteen is 100% a celebrity. He is not a true pastor or man of God. He used God as his path to fame and fortune while twisting and contorting the Bible to his liking. He is worse than singer using auto-tune and a huge reason the Christian church has seen a huge migration of people moving away from that faith. Sincerely, an atheist.

30 Times People Messed With Celebrities Enough To Get Blocked I got blocked on Twitter by OJ Simpson in 2020 for asking him if he plans on purchasing the new Bronco in white when it’s released.

BlameMe4urLoss , LAPD / wikimedia Report

It’s no secret that nowadays, the online world—and especially following every move of certain personalities on it—takes up quite a lot of our time and energy. So it’s not surprising that some people take their online identities very seriously or value certain connections based on others’ online activities. Take blocking someone you know, for instance; chances are, that person would probably be saddened or even offended by such an action.

“Being blocked by anyone is inherently a negative action because it means a person does not want to see what you have to say. To be blocked by a friend should be considered much more of an indictment of your social media persona than anything else. We tend to take on a slightly different version of ourselves online, whether that person is more vulgar, more vulnerable, or something else entirely. So, to be blocked is to know that the persona you take on is considered objectionable by another individual,” Mattar suggested.

Discussing the significance of the role social media plays nowadays, Nick Mattar pointed out that it is as important as we make it. “For people like myself, it’s important because it is a major tenet of my career. But for most people, social media fills one of two roles: a form of entertainment or a vehicle to connect with others.”

Asked if he agrees that people nowadays tend to blow certain minor things seen on social media out of proportion, the expert emphasized that everyone has different opinions on what is “minor” and what is “major” in our society today, but that there are specific topics today at the forefront of our news cycle because of how social media has amplified their relevance.

30 Times People Messed With Celebrities Enough To Get Blocked Way back I got blocked by a local weatherman.  He was wearing a blazer that was super wrinkled.  So I tweeted to him and the station that he should’ve ironed his blazer.  The next time he came on screen, he wore a different blazer but it was an ugly bright yellow mustard color.  So I tweeted, I said iron your blazer not put on an uglier one.  Got blocked after that, haha. .

“Social media plays a unique role for ‘traditional’ celebrities in that it is different for everyone. But we now live in a time when an entire generation of celebrities are famous because of social media,” N. Mattar told Bored Panda. “As a result, social media will always play a different role in their lives because they have seen first-hand the impact it can have on a person. Whether that is a good or bad thing, however, depends on the individual celebrity.”

30 Times People Messed With Celebrities Enough To Get Blocked KAT VON D

I made comments about how she's happy to slap "Chemicals" on her face in the way of her make up brand, and inject chemicals under her skin for her ink in her tattoos, and happily be paid to do this for others.

Yet the "Chemicals" in the whooping cough vaccine for her baby was unsafe and I called her a bad mum.

I was blocked within minutes and then she released some statement on her Instagram about being a "New" mum who makes mistakes.

Anyway, Shes a narcissistic small timer big time wannabe.

30 Times People Messed With Celebrities Enough To Get Blocked Ellie Goulding was talking about how meat was bad for you on instagram. I — being the insufferable teenage debate brain I was — wrote an entire essay explaining why she was wrong, the benefits of eating meat, how morality is based on more than someone’s diet etc. I spent about half an hour constructing it. She simply replied *“You have too much time on your hands”* and blocked me.

She wasn’t wrong lol.

Technically yes. He has a doctorate in psychology. However, last I checked he let his licence to practice lapse and never renewed it. So he's a doctor who can't legally doctor anyone.

If anyone needs context for this, at some point a bunch of furries did harass the Tony The Tiger social media accounts by writing lewd comments and demanding certain pictures of the character or sending them raunchy fanart. The people responsible for the social media accounts couldn't handle it anymore at some point and flipped, leading to this.

30 Times People Messed With Celebrities Enough To Get Blocked

One day about 25 years ago, Steve buscemi was walking around horatio street down in greenwhich village. He was talking on a cell phone when he stepped onto the street to cross to the other side. As soon as he stepped onto the street, it was clear that he had blocked the path of an oncoming bicycle. Steve buscemi was hit by a teenager on a bicycle. That teenager was me. He probably doesn’t remember, it wasn’t a particularly hard hit. Now whenever I see him on screen, I have to let everyone around know that I hit him that one time down in the village.

Also, it was the first time I ever considered the dangers of cellphones. I can’t remember the exact year but I remember the knicks were freakin awesome. Ewing, Starks… maybe ‘94.

I kind of hope that OP meets him in like a crowd event and then is like 'SORRY!'. Towards him. But out of nowhere. And then Buscemi spends the rest of his life wondering who on earth that was.
