Spanish actress Penélope Cruz has opened up about how she chooses to manage motherhood as a high-profile figure. During an interview with Elle Spain, the “Ferrari” actress revealed that she has a sacred rule to shield her two children, 13-year-old son Leo and 10-year-old daughter Luna, from the public eye.

“I have a sacred rule, and that is that we do not talk about them,” the Academy Award winner said, explaining why she and her husband, Javier Bardem, are rarely seen in public as a family of four.

Highlights
  • Penélope Cruz has a "sacred rule" to not discuss her children publicly.
  • Penélope and her husband, actor Javier Bardem, strive for utmost privacy for their family to protect their children.
  • Becoming a mother is described by Penélope as the "most radical change" in her life.

“If one day they have a job facing the public, well, they will have to learn to deal with that. But right now, it’s not time; they are just two children whom we absolutely protect.”

Penélope and Javier have been together since 2007 after working together on her breakthrough film, “Jamón, jamón,” and “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.”

The actors tied the knot in early July 2010 in a private ceremony at a friend’s home in the Bahamas.

The mother-of-two shared that, unlike the earlier days of her career when she prioritized making several movies a year, her main occupation is now her children.

“And I will never regret it. Since they were born, we do everything possible to be fully present in their upbringing. It is the most important thing for us.”

The “Vanilla Sky” actress previously discussed the life-changing experience of motherhood in a 2022 interview with Vogue Spain.

“The most radical change I have ever experienced has been becoming a mother,” the 49-year-old explained.

“Your life is hugely altered in that moment, much more than with any other type of project. Motherhood is the priority of my life.”

Penélope also revealed that she tried to adopt as a young single mother during a trip to India.

“I tried to adopt by myself when I was 20, on a trip to India, but it couldn’t happen.”

“If one day they have a job facing the public, well, they will have to learn to deal with that. But right now, it’s not time,” the Oscar winner said
