Mexican Artist Uses Unique Technique To Make His Drawings Glow, And The Result Is Mesmerizing
Mexican artist Enrique Bernal has found a subtle yet majestic way to illuminate his beautiful drawings with life. After the talented artist is done working on his works of art with pencils and pens, Enrique adds a few extra post-production effects, taking his drawings to a whole new level.
The artist uses an app called Medibang Paint. One of its features is a digital “glow” that imitates a fluorescent light source, but it would be nothing without Bernal's clever use of it. Both the angles of the glow and the colors he chooses to make his subjects really pop and create an off-the-paper candescence.

When Art Decides To Literally Glow Up
I think so. It looks like a very subtle sadness, yet innocence to her portrait. It looks sad to me.
Load More Replies...Whether Bernal is simply contouring their face and body or adding mysterious elements to the entire composition -- like butterfliers -- he always seems to find the right motifs to enhance his pencil drawings of humans and animals.
After further inspection, one can notice that Enrique's creative ideas are reminiscent of the works by Bulgarian illustrator Angel Ganev. He also makes use of a similar technique of lighting that makes the pencil drawings appear as though they are glowing.
Ganev's cool drawings radiate with a unique mood as well, wherein the glow becomes a feeling of a warm autumn evening with a cup of tea in one pencil sketch and a cool metallic touch of magic in another.
This Drawing Isn’t Just Art – It’s Magic
My favourite. It reminds me of those beautifully simple stop-motion animations.
I love your work ! They're all absolutely breathtaking !! What a unique style !!
You Won’t Believe This Was Done By Hand
using the app mentioned in the introduction of this article. It's called Medibang Paint. There's a link at the top of this page. :)

Art Or Illusion? We’re Still Staring
this one should be higher! Love the way it makes it seem like the pen is the light source
This is one of my favorites. The way the light flows to her from the pen, highlights and frames her face perfectly. It's very beautiful.
When A Pencil Turns Into A Light Show
he got that from google search up pretty girl and youll see. Still good though :)
Proof That Glow-In-The-Dark Art Is Superior
Warning: May Cause Jaw-Dropping
You're so lucky! I bet it's hard work, but totally worth it

These are all incredible, but this one is exceptional! I love how she looks tough, but there's an undercurrent of vulnerability. Beautiful 😍
Talent oozing from the page. She seems to have a hardness/strength about her.
I could never draw that well ... however this one is my least favorite...
Can A Sketch Be Hypnotizing? Yes.
Very pretty girl, it must be a little difficult to decide, where to highlight, I find some are well chosen others, not sure, just my opinion !!!
Absoulutly Incredible. The way that he draws the glare of light just makes the picture and the glare is in the perfect spot and its so amazing how realistic it looks exactly like someone just took a picture
Very moving, her eyes are piercing and look thru you. It takes so much talent to show these expressions of the subjects.
Looks Like Photoshop, But It’s Real
His use of the highlighting tool and colors are brilliant. He even makes this look more magical.
Whoever Said Drawing Was Boring Needs To See This
Love his work with the highlighting tool and the subtly placed objects in the portraits to give them more depth. She appears from her bandaid on her chest, to have a broken heart, and the emblem on her forehead, idk for sure, makes me feel like she's still a queen.
This Is What Happens When Talent Meets Glow
She is very beautiful. I think I would've liked a bit more lights on her, maybe a different color. Of course his drawing skills are perfection. A peach tone like he used earlier would have given her face a very pretty softness to go with her pouty full lip.
The Kind Of Art That Belongs In A Sci-Fi Movie
Unlike any drawing I’ve seen before! People never seem to use this pose in paintings and drawings, even though it’s so common these days.
Your Eyes Deserve To See This
I love the color he chose to light her with, against all of her very dark hair.
This Artist Just Changed The Game
Wait, is the pen drawn too? Or is there real fluorescent light? Iḿ confused. Beautiful drawing, though. Love the tattoo
The really interesting part to me is the construction lines for the folds in the cloth... I don't think I would ever have considered using points from the end of the cloth to the body
Don’t Blink – This Art Might Disappear
the glow of a youthful death .......Age faster and die young
Load More Replies...She has a very pretty profile and use of the light as the glow from embers of her cigarette, to glow upon the edge of her face is a very creative use.
You Thought You Knew Glow Art? Think Again
I don't know why but this SCREAMS Bellatrix. (From harry potter)
Load More Replies...Her face looks alive. I feel like she could speak at any moment. The light color and composition was perfect focused on her earring.
Let There Be Light… And Incredible Talent
When Neon Meets Genius
Glowing Lines, Glorious Vibes
Hold me tight, I think you become one of the best artist of the world.
This Art Radiates Pure Skill
Light, Color, Action!
Is it just me that thinks the drawing looks like Haley Joel Osment? Hallie-Joe...8c991c.jpg
Drawn To Shine, Destined To Dazzle
Is he trying to make it look like the light is coming from the pen??? Cool!!!!!
Curious Enrique, how did you do the neon lighting with the app exactly? Did you draw these by hand on paper or on PC/tablet/phone. If by hand on paper, how did you apply the highlighting. It's very unique and dazzling. I hope you don't mind me asking. You can email jennross436@gmail.com
This Artist Said “Let There Be Glow” — And Nailed It
You’ve Never Seen Sketching Like This Before
ALL fabulous drawings ! BUT, still no clue about how to achieve the lovely lighting effects ??
These are so beautiful! I couldn't DREAM of making ONE piece of art nearly as good as they all are.
The work is pretty and the lighting digital effect does lend itself to these drawings, but it also seems to hide a lot of mistakes... The images look traced as I can see a lot of sloppy drawing in the hands and body proportions especially. The sketchy 'shadows' can hide these things too.. Either way, it's a nice start to an artist who obviously has a lot of talent and lots of room to develop and grow! :)
Agreed, the artist definitely deserves all of the support, but I hope they continue to hone their skill :)
Load More Replies...Wow! They look magical! I love the style; he would make a great comic book artist
WOW! Just wow! I wish you would post a video tutorial so I could see how you do this! BEAUTIFUL!!! <3
These are pretty cool, but the way that the skin is so smooth and detailed and then everything else is so sketchy makes them look unfinished. I know art is art and you can do it however you want, but it’s somewhat off-putting. Still love it and your talented as heck tho
To be honest, I agree with Dio. In every pic, it looked like it was traced, but either way, it's all good and amazing! :)
it would be quite cool if they were able to make that same effect without the digital effect, thou still very cool
