Girl Finds Something That Wasn’t Meant For Her In A Twix Bag, Uncovers Her Mom’s Friend’s Master-Plan

We all know that refusing a host’s acts of generosity is not an easy feat to accomplish and often times requires certain bargaining and stealth skills. And while some are subdued into unwillingly accepting the ‘bribe’, others find ways to leave it behind. Well, this story is an excellent proof that things don’t always go as planned.

Last month, Tumblr user Gabrielle shared a story about going back home to visit her family. While home, her mother told her about their weekly get-together with other friends and that’s when the interesting stuff comes into play. Apparently, one of the friends who was hosting the meeting, Martha, bought personalized snacks for everyone attending, including Gabrielle’s mom. To return the favor, the mother tried to hand Martha a $20 bill, but was promptly refused. Thinking she’s be clever, the mother left the money behind, on a counter and takes the remaining snacks. Well, Gabrielle soon learned that Martha was more than aware of everything and trying to get back at her friend, did the most passive aggressive thing a hostess could do. Later, Gabrielle revealed that in the end she kept the money as she had already left for university and there was no way to return it. As for the payback? ” It got resolved by my mother buying Martha a $20 bottle of wine and giving it to her as she was about to go into her house so that she couldn’t refuse it” Gabrielle told Bored Panda. Scroll down to read the full story below and tell us if you think she did the right thing or not.

I would have done the same, actually it's pretty annoying when you do something and people keep on insisting to pay you... I did it because I wanted to, thanks for asking, but if I don't want your money just keep it :D

Insisting on always paying people back for gifts or generous gestures is a sign of a controlling personality. Just let go and receive.

It can be said for both sides, if you want to twist things like that. People who insist in giving or paying don't do it out of generosity, they do it to feel like better, higher people. If you really cared about the other person, you'd care about how they feel about the gift, and allow them to pay for it if it makes them feel better. You only care about how generous and giving it makes you feel.

When I first moved out on my own my Mom got super sneaky. She would come over and look for bills sitting out and then call and pay them on me. I guess she couldn't get herself away from constantly trying to make sure I was living comfortably. Mom's gotta mom though. I love to death for everything she did.

Thrilling. I spoke with a cashier briefly today - maybe I should post that story here. It's equally riveting.

Meh. I was expecting something interesting - like finding a stash of ganja maybe? Very misleading! Bored Panda is starting to be far too click-baity with it's titles, imo.

I wouldn't call that passive aggressive....because it's not aggressive. More like...a prank.

Passive Aggressive, you keep using that term. It does not mean what I think you think it means.

Panties in a knot on all sides over a measly 20 bucks. Get over yourselves and learn how to be a gracious gift receiver.

1: I learned to just ask "are you sure?" once, then say "thank you " when a friend starts to pay for our lunch out etc. Startled a staff person in shop several times. They like it. 2: In other situations when I am really uncomfortable I ask them to put the money in their favorite charity. That usually goes nicely too.

This reminds me of the in-laws at Yum Cha. My mother-in-law would want to pay and so would her brother. They'd always be moving the docket the wait stuff record your orders on, to their side of the table so they could take it to the counter and pay. Silly thing is, they shared a family trust account and so it made no difference. Seemed more of an ego thing to be the one at the counter paying up.

Anyone else read that last line in the voice of the actor that actually says "And that's what you missed on" and then GLEE in a very high pitched sing-song voice?

My dad used to ask, "Do you have any money?" I'd show him my empty wallet, and he would protectively give me a a couple of $20's. Once after he left my roommate said, "Don't you have a lot of money in your bank account?!" Yeah, I told her, but my _wallet_ was empty.
